MISSIONS PADS SERVICE OPPORTUNITY Summertime does not change the need to help the homeless and the need is great. Saint Paul has stepped forward to host the PADS on Monday, August 8. There have been upwards of 40-50 guests on Mondays and many volunteers are needed to make it run. If you cannot be at St. Mark on Monday--consider shopping and/or cooking and dropping it off. Please contact Dave Fulton if you are able to volunteer in any capacity at (847)398-1308 or dfulton@wowway.com. CHURCH HAS LEFT THE BUILDING BOXWOOD BASH: Saturday, August 13 from 2:00-4:30pm. For the last 30 years, Higher-Up Ministries has been helping the residents of the Boxwood neighborhood in Mount Prospect where children, teens, and single mothers face the realities of drugs and gangs every day. In addition to providing a food pantry, job training, small group Bible study, and youth activities, Higher- Up also organizes the Boxwood Bash every summer. This is an opportunity for Boxwood residents to just have fun playing games and doing different activities. Saint Paul has been involved with the Bash for the last few years along with other organizations. We host 6-8 children s games where they can win a small prize, school supplies, or a snack item. We need help funding these games and help in running the games. This is a great family activity but is open to anyone who wants to share the love of Christ. If you want to volunteer, make a donation or just want to find out more about the Boxwood Bash, stop by the display in the narthex. God bless you for serving others. WEEKEND OF SERVICE ONE CHURCH, ONE WEEKEND, ONE PURPOSE, ONE HUNDRED HOURS: The purpose of CHLTB projects is to serve God by serving others. Our members have been faithful in working towards that purpose, Now it s time for a challenge. Can you and I complete 100 hours of service together in our community in one weekend, September 16-18? We are lining up projects that you can be involved in, or you can choose your own project to do that works within your time schedule. We ll all report back, and the weekend will include a how and what we did wrap up. Save some time for service to our community that weekend. More information will be available in August. FOOD DONATIONS FOR AUGUST NEEDED For the month of August we are asking members whose last name begins with E, F, G or H, or any who have a heart for this ministry, to contribute. If you know of someone who is in need of food supplies, please let them know they can use our food pantry during church service times or during the week by visiting the church office.

O SCHOOL UPDATE Greetings! Summer Programs are in full swing here at school. But school supplies are on the shelves in stores, and we re very busy making ready for the new school year to start in August at Saint Paul Lutheran School! Our school is blessed with the enormous support from you, the members of Saint Paul Church. In no small part, it is your support in word, deed, and prayer, that makes this school an attractive place to work, as well as to learn. We are all very grateful! Typically, our staff remains very stable; this year, we experienced more than the usual amount of change. While it s always bittersweet to see a staff member retire or move, we are grateful to God for the blessing they have all been to us! In an effort to help the congregation stay current with the recent staff changes and repositionings, some details are listed below. We are excited to welcome a number of new staff members, and look forward to getting to know them better this year. Mrs. Jennifer Withey joins us as our part-time Spanish teacher, serving grades 1-8, filling a vacancy. Mrs. Angela Young joins us as a Preschool teacher, filling a retirement vacancy. Mrs. Young will be teaching our 5-full-day PreK Class, formerly taught by Mrs. Amy Cimarusti. Mrs. Amy Cimarusti, meanwhile, will move to teaching the 3-full-day PreK class, and assume the newly created administrative position focusing on Admissions and Development. Mr. Matt Gutzler has accepted the position of Specials/Physical Education teacher, and we are pleased that he will be enhancing and developing the curriculum in this area. Miss Jessica Dill joins us as our new 4 th grade teacher. Besides teaching, Miss Dill also brings a variety of coaching experience to our school. Miss Lisa Yagow has accepted a music teacher position at another school, to build the orchestra program which involves hundreds of students. She will miss everyone at Saint Paul, but plans to continue membership at Saint Paul Lutheran Church, so we ll surely be able keep in touch with her on the weekends. We wish her many blessings, and thank her for the blessing she has been to us and our program! Mrs. Lisa Janisch will join us as Classroom Music teacher in grades K-5, and FAB music grades 6-8. Mrs. Janisch has been our faithful substitute teacher for many years, and we are pleased to have her on staff now. The Band Program will continue under the direction of staff from Music Education Services, a firm in Elk Grove Village. They provide excellent instrumental band instruction at a competitive price for families; many area Lutheran schools use this firm.

Mrs. Karen Papke, our resource teacher, will welcome a baby in a few weeks! In her absence, we are grateful to Mrs. Kirsten Harvey, who will join us for the duration of the maternity leave. During the summer, I received word that the teacher we hired for the 7 th Grade/Language Arts position was, unfortunately, not able to relocate due to a family illness. We wished her the very best, and have implemented a temporary plan for this year. Mrs. Crys DeCant has been repositioned to 7 th Grade Homeroom, and 6 th & 7 th Grade Language Arts. Mrs. Kirsten Harvey will be joining us as Language Arts teacher for 8 th grade, and will also work with various math and reading groups, as schedule dictates. We are grateful to both of these teachers for their flexibility and willing spirits! We are blessed with such excellent teachers, and looking forward to a wonderful year! Miss Kelly Sommers, who joined us last January in 1 st Grade, will remain in that position this year as well. Finally, we are so pleased to welcome Mrs. Julie Urban back to Saint Paul. She is returning from a leave of absence due to illness. Mrs. Urban will join us as an instructional aide in Kindergarten, and in other areas. Julie s return is an answer to many prayers; we are grateful to God for His faithfulness to her, and to us! Praise God for the exciting year ahead! The strengths and gifts of our faculty and staff are a blessing to all of us what a great team! Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever! --Psalm 118:1 All the best, Jennifer Heinze O COMMUNITY NEWS POSITION AVAILABLE: PART-TIME DIRECTOR OF MUSIC Living Christ Lutheran Church, 625 E.
