TODDLERS Come and follow me, MATTHEW 4:19, NIrV Toddler classrooms are one of the most unique places in the church. Between the diaper changes, snacking, and rocking, there are small windows of playtime that are an amazing opportunity to teach children about their loving Heavenly Father. This curriculum is designed to bridge the gap as your young toddlers move from the baby room towards the twos. We have provided four playtimes to teach the monthly bottom line through one-on-one as well as small group play. Repeat each activity as long as there is interest. Remember, toddlers LOVE repetition. TODDLERS Come and follow me, MATTHEW 4:19, NIrV 1. FOLLOW THE BEAD WHAT YOU NEED: Bead maze WHAT YOU DO: Sit with a few toddler friends and show them how to push the beads around on a bead maze. Continue as long as there is interest. WHAT YOU SAY: Friends, come and sit with me. Look at this fun bead maze. Choose a bead and push it along its line. Can you follow the line with the bead? Great job! Now follow a different line with a different bead. Wow! Did you know there is someone very special that asked us to follow Him? Jesus! You can follow Jesus! 2. FOLLOW ME WHAT YOU NEED: Play tunnel/cardboard box open at both ends WHAT YOU DO: Encourage children to crawl through the tunnel after you. Continue as long as there is interest. WHAT YOU SAY: Can you crawl through this tunnel after me? Follow me! We are going to go through the tunnel and then back out again. Great job following me. WATER PAINTING WHAT YOU NEED: Butcher paper, Sharpie, toddler paintbrushes, water WHAT YOU DO: Place butcher paper on the table and draw lines with the Sharpie. Give toddlers wet paintbrushes and encourage them to follow the lines with the wet paintbrush. Continue as long as there is interest. WHAT YOU SAY: Come sit with me at the table and paint! I m going to give you this wet paintbrush, and I want you to use it to follow this line. Great job! You are following the line with the paintbrush. Some kids (especially the younger ones) may wander. That s okay. They re still listening and learning! WHAT YOU NEED: Preschool Bible Today s Bible story is about a very, VERY special person named Jesus. Can you say, Jesus? (Pause.) Good job! Jesus is special because Jesus is God s Son. One day Jesus was riding down a road on a donkey. When the people saw Him they got SO excited! They waved leaves, and they cheered, Hosanna! Hosanna! Yay, Jesus! Pretend to wave a leaf and say that with me. CHILDREN AND LEADER: Hosanna! Hosanna! Yay, Jesus! Hosanna! Hosanna! Yay, Jesus! Hosanna! Hosanna! Yay, Jesus! LEADER: Let s do one that one more time. Depending on the size of your group, you may lead the craft two or three times. Not every child may want to participate in craft time. That s okay. Feel free to send home the craft materials for them to complete with their mom or dad. WHAT YOU NEED: Palm Branch Activity Page, white cardstock, and green dot markers WHAT YOU DO: BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: Copy Palm Branch onto cardstock and cut on the dotted lines. Each child needs a half page. DURING THE ACTIVITY: Retell the story as the children use dot markers to color the palm leaf. Then, practice waving them. WHAT YOU SAY: DURING THE ACTIVITY: Today s Bible story was about a very, VERY special person named Jesus. Jesus is special because Jesus is God s Son.
