Page 2 FANIAL THOUGHTS God Wants What is Best for Us October 2018 57 As they were going along the road, someone said to him, I will follow you wherever you go. 58 And Jesus said to him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head. 59 To another he said, Follow me. But he said, Lord, first let me go and bury my father. 60 But Jesus [a] said to him, Let the dead bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God. 61 Another said, I will follow you, Lord; but let me first say farewell to those at my home. 62 Jesus said to him, No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God. Luke 9:57-62 Saying goodbye is hard to family and friends, to a favorite and familiar place, to an occupation or livelihood. In Luke 9:57-62 our Lord describes the cost of being His disciple. A would-be follower says to Jesus, I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family. Jesus responds, No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God (vv. 61-62). Is He asking His followers to say goodbye to everything and every relationship considered precious? In the Chinese language there is no direct equivalent of the English word goodbye. The two Chinese characters used to translate this word really mean see you again. Even the phrase goodbye come from combining four English words, God be with ye. Becoming a disciple of Christ means we will be called into God s service, sometimes somewhere else. Yet, it does not mean we say goodbye to people in the sense that we are to forget all our past relationships. Saying goodbye means that God wants us to follow Him on His terms wholeheartedly. Then we will see people again from the right perspective God wants the best for us, but we must allow Him to take priority over everything else. When one senses God is calling you to something, you must stop and listen. Sometimes it is events forming around you that tell you that God has a plan for you. Sometimes God gets your attention through happenstance. But if you remember the story of Ruth, happenstance is often not perchance or coincidence. Even in happenstance, God is at work in the background, behind the curtain of events. So while saying goodbye is hard, we do it knowing that God will be with us til we meet again. May the Lord bless you and keep you, may the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord lift up his face upon you and give you peace. Amen. Pastor Kent Krumwiede

Page 9 PEACE WELCA NEWS WOW! Summer is gone and with that thinking about the Bazaar. Brenda and Kristin have been working on organizing and assigning different tables and areas that will need help. It sounds like a few of our members have family commitments that day so when you are called, please say yes, I will be there. Thank you to everyone that has contributed and is able to help make this a successful event again. I do not know the first year of our Bazaar but it is around 45 years and thank you to those people involved for all this time. Lynette Rohloff made the quilt for the raffle this year, donating her time and the fabric. Please thank her when you see her. Thank you to everyone that helped with all of our September volunteer activities and those helping in October. Both months are busy and take extra people. In one of the conversations with the Bishop, he mentioned that when he was here early Summer he did not feel a particularly warm welcome from either of our churches. Please do not get worked up about this, but if one visitor feels this way, have other visitors felt the same? Something to be aware of when we have visitors worshiping with us. If they are new in the community and looking for a church home, it may mean they choose us as their church family or look elsewhere. The Fall WELCA Conference is scheduled for Tuesday, October 2 at Luther Crest. Registrations were due this past week, but I am sure they will accept last minute attendees. Please let June at the church office and she will make sure you are registered. Someone mentioned to me recently that WELCA should establish an age when you do not need to serve cookies for coffee and fellowship. Every member is assigned to a group. When your group chair calls you to fill all the monthly volunteer responsibilities for the month, please tell them you are not able to serve cookies and communion any longer; maybe greeting is easier for you. Whatever you can do is appreciated. God s Blessings and Happy Fall everyone!!
