JESUS LOVES EXODUS 7-12 Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, Who only does wondrous things! Psalm 72:18
EXODUS 7-12 UNDERSTANDING THE STORY: The Israelites lived in Egypt for over 400 years. The king of Egypt, called Pharaoh, made them slaves. Did God want His special people, the Israelites, to stay in Egypt as slaves to the wicked king? Do you remember who God was going to use to help the Israelites leave Egypt? (Moses) Moses and his brother Aaron went to Pharaoh and told him that God said, Let My people go (Ex. 5:1) Did Pharaoh obey God? Isn t it sad when people don t obey God? God told the Israelites that He would rescue them and bring them out of Egypt. Does God always keep His promises? God sent ten plagues (big troubles) on the land of Egypt so that Pharaoh would let the Israelites go. God was punishing the Egyptians for their wickedness. God loved the Egyptians and wanted them to know that He is God. 1. The water in the river turned into blood. Could the Egyptians drink water that had become blood? 2. There were frogs everywhere. Imagine frogs in your house, bed, food, etc. One frog might be fun, but would lots of frogs everywhere be fun? 3. The dust of the land in Egypt became lice. (Lice are small insects that live on people and animals.) 4. Swarms of flies came upon Pharaoh, his servants, his people and in their houses. 5. A very bad disease came upon the cattle in the field. Did the Egyptians need animals for their food? 6. The Egyptians and their animals were covered with painful sores called boils. 7. Heavy hail and fire came upon the people and animals outside, and ruined the plants and trees. What is hail? 8. Locusts came and covered Egypt and even filled the houses. What do locusts do? (They eat plants) 9. For three days Egypt became dark and the people couldn t see each other. (The Israelites had light.) 10. The firstborn of people and animals died. (God had already warned Pharaoh that this would happen - Ex. 4:21-23, but Pharaoh would not obey God.) (That night was called Passover because God passed over the Israelite houses and kept them safe.) When all the firstborn in Egypt died, Pharaoh told Moses and Aaron to leave with the Israelites. Did God keep the Israelites safe from harm? Did He keep His promise to them? Was God teaching the Egyptians that He alone is God? Before the Israelites left Egypt, what did they ask the Egyptians for? Did the Egyptians give them gold, silver, and clothing? What did the Israelites tie up and carry in their clothes? (Bread dough in bowls) That night, the Israelites left Egypt; they were finally free from slavery. SIMPLE TRUTHS: God rescued the Israelites from the wicked Pharaoh and from being slaves in Egypt. Is there anything that we need to be rescued from today? (We need to be rescued and saved from sin.) How can we be saved from sin? What did Jesus do for us? Do we need to ask Jesus to forgive us of our sin? Pharaoh wouldn t obey God and bad things happened. Is it always best for us to obey God when He tells us to do something? Will He bless us when we obey Him? God kept His promise to the Israelite people. Will God always keep His promises to us? There are many wonderful promises in the Bible; should we believe them? Can we always trust God? AND REMEMBER... God always keeps His promises! MEMORY VERSE: Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, Who only does wondrous things!
