Kulpahar Kids Home & Christian School Kulpahar Kids Home & Christian School is the oldest Christian Church/Church of Christ Mission in India. The home and school consist of 3 compounds on 32 acres, with 24 hour security. Kulpahar Christian School exists to provide a quality Christian education for children of impoverished Christian families and originally was primarily for the children from the Kids Home. With fewer children from the home, and due to a very high scholastic standard, enrollment grew with children coming from the nearby villages. Enrollment is between 300 and 400 students, from kindergarten through twelfth grade. They are a Hindi-medium school meaning Hindi is spoken, and is the language medium of teaching. English is taught in every grade. All boarding students have a very different life at Kulpahar than they do at home. Many children of 1st generation converts come, as well as children who have fathers who are itinerant preachers and barely make enough to feed the family. The school compound is the largest, with the majority of staff housing that includes teachers, drivers, generator operators, business, and hospital personnel. The church, and 2 boys hostels are also here, along with 2 large fields where vegetables are grown during 6 months of the year to feed the 90 hostel kids (if they have the rain). They are presently in the 3rd year of drought. The 2 additional compounds consist of the hospital, playing fields, a 3 story girls hostel, tailor shop, hostel kitchen, laundry, garage, carpentry shop, and stock room, among other things. The large hostel kitchen prepares 300 meals a day. Currently the hospital is only used as an outpatient clinic and lab for the hostel children due to the absence of a doctor. Our church missions supports Kulpahar Kids Home & Christian School. If you want to give an individual gift, $60 will help to feed, house, educate, supply uniforms, school books, personal supplies, and medical expenses (including eyes & teeth) for one child. Who Is Jesus? Mike Smith Woodburn Christian Church Pastor And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, Who is this? (Matthew 21:10) Matthew tells us that when Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on the back of a donkey on the Sunday before his crucifixion that the crowds wondered who this man was. During this next month as we prepare to celebrate Jesus coming to earth as an infant, we are going to examine Jesus answer to this question through his own words which John recorded for us. Each of the I Am statements of Jesus give us an answer to Who is this man? To the hungry, he is the Bread of Life; to those blind and living in darkness, he is the Light of the World; to those seeking entry to heaven, he is the Door; to those needing guidance, he is the Good Shepherd; to the dead, he is the Resurrection and the Life; to those deceived by lies and lost, he is the Way, the Truth, and the Life; to those needing nourishment and a closer relationship with God, he is the Vine. And Jesus is so much more. He is the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). He is the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end (Revelation 22:13). He fulfills our every need. But to many, the only picture they may ever see of Jesus is him living through us. We become more like Jesus as we take on his glory in our lives. His Spirit lives in us and transforms us into his image. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. (II Corinthians 3:17-18) By becoming more like Jesus people can see him living in us. We become the light of the world. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16) The purpose of all this is to lead others to worship Christ our Lord, and giving glory to God our Father. I encourage you this season (and every season) to be like Jesus in everything you say and do. The study of who Jesus is is also the study of who we are to become. People are watching you. Who will they see? I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20) 5
