This is a university where character and integrity matter, where community is important and where you can acquire the knowledge and skills you need for competency in your career. The university intakes are in September, January and May every year, except for Law where we have only two intakes (confirm the Semesters from the admissions office). Applications are received and processed throughout the year. Note that our main intakes for regular and evening are in September, January and May. For the school based and distance learning applicants, we have admissions in April, August and December. Be sure to include the following: - Completed application form Application fee of Kshs. 1,500/= for local applicants and US$35 for foreign applicants. 3 Passport size photographs (write your full names at the back) Copies of Educational Documents Transcripts/Result Slips, Certificates (Includes leaving certificates where applicable) this includes proof you have done English for those from Non-English speaking countries. Copy of birth certificate or National ID/passport NB: Kenyan residents are required to bring with them original certificates as they submit the application form, otherwise submit certified copies. All non-residents should submit certified copies. Note if you are from a Non-English Speaking Country: All documents must be translated to English. The Ministry of Education of your country should certify the translated documents. Please attach a copy of both the translated certificates and the original version (copy). I acknowledge that the University expects me to demonstrate an upright moral character. I agree to live in harmony with the goals and policies of the University. I further agree to conduct my behaviour in harmony with the Nazarene Covenant of Christian Conduct (see back). 2) I will resolve to communicate grievances in a mature and Christian manner, using the principles of brotherly love and reconciliation as my guideline. I agree to settle differences with students and University administration, faculty, and staff in a peaceful and considerate manner. 3) I understand that rioting, boycotting, striking against classes, University programmes or policies, rules and standards, is forbidden. I will make no attempt to interfere with fellow students in their attendance at classes or University programmes. Participation in either course of action will make me liable to disciplinary and/or legal action. 4) I agree that I will not use alcohol, tobacco, or recreational drugs while a student at Africa Nazarene University. I will avoid questionable places of entertainment which distract from moral and spiritual development and which encourage a lifestyle contrary to the Christian lifestyle desired of ANU students. I agree further not to listen to or watch any media which contain references to or scenes of explicit sex or use vulgar language or obscene words or which use the Lord s name in vain. 5) I understand that gambling, bribery, occult practices, teaching non-christian values in any form, reading or viewing pornographic material, or engaging in sexual activity outside the bounds of heterosexual marriage is not permitted to ANU students or staff. This includes the public display of romantic affection. I acknowledge that any student found in the room of a member of the opposite sex will be liable to disciplinary action. Further, I will not sexually harass others. 6) I understand that while I am a student at ANU, I am expected to keep all rules and regulations of the University both on and off campus. I further understand that students who are arrested for disorderly conduct, public drunkenness, making a public disturbance, or breaking the Laws of Kenya in any fashion or form will be liable to disciplinary action from the University. 7) For security reasons, I understand that the security staff, faculty members, or administration staff of the University, may inspect packages, personal belongings, or vehicles being brought onto the University campus (see Student Handbook, Campus Life Prohibitions, section 2). I agree to give the University the authority to conduct unscheduled inspections of my room to protect students and the University from the presence of items and substances that are not permitted on ANU premises. 8) I understand that I am required to be truthful in applying for admission to ANU, including the frank disclosure of previous attendance and subsequent suspension or dismissal at another University, college, or any post high school educational institution. KEY BELIEFS Church of the Nazarene, Manual 20.1-20.8 We believe: 1) In one God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; 2) The Old and New Testament Scriptures, given by plenary inspiration, contain all truth necessary to faith and Christian living; 3) Human beings are born with a fallen nature, and are, therefore, inclined to evil, and that continually; 4) The finally impenitent are hopelessly and eternally lost; 5) The atonement through Jesus Christ is for the whole human race; and that whosoever repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is justified and regenerated and saved from the dominion of sin; 6) That believers are to be sanctified wholly, subsequent to regeneration, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; 7) The Holy Spirit bears witness to the new birth, and also to the entire sanctification of believers; 8) Our Lord will return, the dead will be raised, and the final judgment will take place. STANDARDS FOR CONDUCT Because Africa Nazarene University is an institution of higher learning sponsored by the Church of the Nazarene, ANU students are expected to respect the church s standards for conduct as outlined in the Covenant of Christian Character and Covenant of Christian Conduct (Manual, 21.1-21.3 and 28-29.6; see also Student Handbook, 3-5). Here is a summary of those that apply in the ANU setting: 1) Love God and love your neighbour; 2) Be courteous and respectful to everyone; 3) As possible, participate in compassionate outreach to the needy; 4) Avoid every kind of evil, including: a) taking God s name in vain; b) sexual immorality, including premarital or extramarital sex and same gender sexual relations; c) sexual perversion in any form; d) habits destructive to the body or mental well-being; e) quarrelling, gossiping, or slander; f) dishonesty in general or in business practice; g) telling falsehoods; h) immodesty in dress; i) music, literature, and entertainments that dishonour God or that are subversive of the Christian ethic. 5) Abstain from the consumption of alcoholic beverages. 6) Avoid the use of illegal drugs and tobacco in any form (including shisha, hookah, and e-cigarettes) 7) Refrain from games of chance, including the lottery or gambling in all forms. UNIVERSITY POSITION ON PUBLIC WORSHIP AND INDIVIDUAL BELIEF The Church of the Nazarene stands in the Wesleyan-Arminian tradition. It is a Protestant church, with Methodist roots, and a holiness, noncharismatic theology. In addition to respect for the Covenant of Christian Character and Covenant of Christian Conduct of the Church of the Nazarene, students are expected not to speak against the theology of the Church of the Nazarene. The personal spiritual convictions of all students will be respected; no Christian denomination or spiritual communion will be treated with disrespect. The theology of the Church of the Nazarene, however, is the spiritual standard for public worship at Africa Nazarene University. - from the Student Handbook, section 1.3 PLACES OF WORSHIP ANU is purely a Christian university and therefore only provides places of worship for Christians.
