In additin, a meeting f Pastrs and Sunday Schl Directrs will be held December 15, 1983 and a Leadership Cnference fr Small churches will be held September 20, 1984. We face a greater challenge than ever in the cming year, but with renewed vigr, under the leadership f the Hly Spirit, great things can and will be accmplished fr ur Lrd. Respectfully Submitted Gerge Letchwrth E.C. TYNER YOUTH CAMP REPORT 1983 An utstanding camp! Twenty yung lives were turned arund as they came t accept and cmmit their lives t Christ. Previusly, parents stayed with us fr bth talent night and the mvie and usually left the camp t g hme arund 10:30-11:00 which meant sme arrived hme arund 1:00 in the mrning. This year we asked them t stay with us nly thrugh the hur that talent time usually lasted. This way they were n their way hme by 9:00. I interviewed mst f them befre they left and everyne was nt nly in favr f the new prgram but very appreciative f getting hme earlier. The kitchen was headed up by Mrs. Mary Jarvis. She had a gd grup f helpers which included, Mr. & Mrs. V. A. Gentn, Mr. Harry McRae, Mr. Dil Burnett, and Mrs. Dt Buckhalt. Every meal was delicius. Mrs. Sarah McCy was ur camp nurse again. We hnred Mr. & Mrs. Albert & Gertrude Gentry this year because f their many years f service. They were nt able t be with us because f health prblems but they did cme dwn Thursday night t wrk and wrshiped with us. The mvies this year were "Stranger In My Frrest",!!Whitcmb's War", "High Pint!!, and "Brther Enemy." Brther Dennis Draper was ur Camp Pastr. He and his wife, Malrie, were Drm Cunselrs. We appreciate husbands and wives cming tgether t serve. We als were thankful fr laymen and laywmen wh planned their vacatin time t cme and help. They were Mr. Jimmy Burnett and Mrs. Jean Willis. Rev. Tm Kelley came t be with us as Assciate Directr and Canteen Directr t take Rev. Jhn Drman's place because Jhn accepted the call t anther church in Taylr Assciatin. We will miss Jhn very much. Tw exciting things were planned fr next year's camp, which will be July 23-27, 1984. One, the flks frm Brewer Lake Baptist Church will cme dwn and furnish a fish fry fr all f us n Tuesday night. Then the flks frm Lee Baptist Church will cme and 36

Every year I thank Gd fr the visin Brther Tyner had 17 years ag and fr the many wh have made the camp at Pickett Lake pssible. We started this year with $757.26 in the camp accunt and it lks like we will end with a balance f $1,396.50 after all the bills are paid. FOREIGN AND HOME MISSIONS It is encuraging t nte that the Freign Missin Bard's annual reprt t the Suthern Baptist Cnventin shws a grwing respnse in mst areas f missin endeavr. Hwever, as missinaries send requests fr mre persnnel and funds and dcument them t shw what can be accmplished as these becme available, it is clear that Bld Missin Thrust levels f respnse are nt bld enugh. In 1982 Suthern Baptists brke previus recrds as 406 new missinaries were appinted. This 2.58 percent increase falls shrt f the three percent needed t reach the gal f 5,000 missinaries by AD 2000. As 1983 began, 3,217 missionaries were serving in 96 cuntries, aided during the year by nearly 6,000 vlunteers frm Suthern Baptist churches wh went t help verseas - largely at their wn expense. Grwing numbers f baptisms and new church starts were reprted, especially in Africa and Suth America, due in part t a strnger emphasis being placed n evangelism. Overall, 700 new churches were started, an average f 13 per week, 12,710. Last year, Suthern Baptist channeled millin thrugh the Freign Missin Bard t the gspel abrad. This figure culd read ver during 1983, fr a ttal f $110.2 spread $587.6 millin if all Suthern Baptist tithed their incme and present percentages f distributin were maintained. HOME MISSIONS: The Hme Missin Bard has accepted the Bld Missin Thrust challenge f reaching this cuntry fr Jesus Christ. But t make Bld Missin Thrust a reality instead f a slgan, all Suthern Baptist are called t share in this endeavr. One agency, r ne bard alne, cannt witness t 250 millin Americans. The wrk f the Missin Sectin, H.M.B., last year was highlighted by beginning 1,180 new missions and churches. Very ntewrthy, als, was the wrk being 45

The Hme Missins frce includes 3,430 men and wmen serving in all 50 states, American Sama, Puert Ric, the American Virgin Islands, and Canada. In additin, 40,226 vlunteers were placed in areas f special service and 1,568 chaplains in the military, industry, hspitals and institutins were endrsed. Accrding t H.M.B. President, William G. Brwn, Vicey Dixn, Elizabeth Hicks, Catherine Petersn, Piety Petersn, Martha Turner, Nancy Dixn, Lydia Brwn, Luise Pinkard, Eliza Sullivan, Mary Williamsn, Martha Jhnsn, Elrnina Hicks, Melvian Peek, and Nancy Brwn. Since 18 73 the church has met mnthly fr cnference which was held n Saturday befre the secnd Sunday in each mnth until 1948 when the church went full-time, and the Cnference date was changed t the first Wednesday night in each mnth. Frm 1945 until 1948 the church held wrship services secnd Sunday and Saturday befre and furth Sunday in each mnth. Thrugh all its histry the church has manifested an interest in missins by making regular 61

cntributins t missins at hme and abrad. The first building was made f hewn lgs and was used until abut the turn f the century when a large frame lumber building was built. As the peple prspered, the building was remdeled. In 1947, fur Sunday Schl rms were added t the building. In the summer f 1950, a mdern seven-rm pastrium was cmpleted. In 1954 the present brick building was cnstructed, cnsisting f an auditrium, seven Sunday Schl rms, a baptistry, tw rest rms, and ne scial rm. In 1970, a large fellwship hall was added nt the building. In the fall f 1980, a 63 by 30 ft brick veneer pastrium was cmpleted. Frm 1873 t the present time, the church has had thirty-tw pastrs. Sme have served tw r mre times. Twenty-seven deacns have served the church during its histry. At the present time, there are three active deacns: Eddie Hale (Chairman), E. E. Phillips, and Gus Phillips. The first SUNDAY SCHOOL was rganized in 1924 with D. E. Thmas as Superintendent. Sunday Schl was cnducted at the Enterprise Schl huse fr many years with the exceptin f secnd Sunday at church. The first WOMAN'S MISSIONARY UNION was rganized in June 1940, and has been active in gd wrks since. The Training Unin was rganized in September 1948 with Cecil Hicks as Directr. The Brtherhd was rganized in 1950 with Sidney Jrdan as president. The Brtherhd was rerganized in February 1983. The fllwing histrical tidbits are but a few f the interesting incidents which have ccurred thrugh the years. On Octber 14, 1874, the church, in cnf erence, declared ft-washing nt an rdinance f the Missinary Baptist Church. On Nvember 17, 1877, Brther J. J. Frier made a mve and Brther H. J. Lamb secnded it that each male member thrw five r ten cents int the treasury quarterly. In August 1917, a dnatin was taken t help visiting preachers wh had cnducted a revival. The amunt received was $4.30, 62

which was given t the tw preachers. We thank Gd fr His prtectin and guidance and fr His unending lve. "0 Lrd ur Gd, hw excellent is thy name in all the earth." - (Psalms 8:1a) Submitted by Ka thryn Hale 63
