ORDER OF WORSHIP March 12, 2017 Second Sunday in Lent Please sign and pass the Friendship Book ( pew pad ) where you can also record any prayer requests. Our prayer is that you will experience the presence of the Living God as we worship together. We invite you to focus your heart and mind in worship. * indicates please stand as you are able. WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS Sam Palpant PRELUDE Aria [from Water Music ] Organ G.F. Handel CALL TO WORSHIP: Psalm 121 Sam Palpant 1 I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? 2 My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. 3 He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. 6 The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. 8 The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore. Psalm 121 (ESV) *SONG OF WORSHIP: COME, THOU FOUNT OF EVERY BLESSING (Hymn #45) (VERSE 1) Come, thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing thy grace;

TIME OF PRAYER streams of mercy never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above; praise his name I m fixed upon it name of God s redeeming love. (VERSE 2) Here I raise my Ebenezer, hither by thy help I ve come; and I hope by thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home. Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God; he, to rescue me from danger, bought me with his precious blood. (VERSE 3) O to grace how great a debtor daily I m constrained to be! Let thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to thee: prone to wander Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love; here s my heart, O, take and seal it; seal it for thy courts above. Call to Confession Let us confess our sins. Jason Stuart Prayer of Confession Merciful God, We have sinned in what we have thought and said, in the wrong we have done and in the good we have not done. We have sinned in ignorance; we have sinned in weakness; we have sinned through our own deliberate fault. We are truly sorry. We repent and turn to you.

Forgive us, for our Savior Christ s sake, and renew our lives to the glory of your name. Amen. [Silent Prayer] Assurance of Pardon Through the cross of Christ, God have mercy on you, pardon you and set you free. Know that you are forgiven and be at peace. God strengthen you in all goodness and keep you in life eternal. Amen. Rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me! Underneath me, all around me, is the current of his love, leading onward, leading homeward to that glorious rest above. (VERSE 2) O the deep, deep love of Jesus, spread his praise from shore to shore! He who loves us, ever loves us, changes never, nevermore. He, who died to save his loved ones, intercedes for them above; he, who called them his own people, watches over them in love. (VERSE 3) O the deep, deep love of Jesus, love of every love the best, vast the ocean of his blessing, sweet the haven of his rest!

O the deep, deep love of Jesus for my heaven of heavens is he; this my everlasting glory Jesus mighty love for me! OFFERING OF OURSELVES & OUR GIFTS Invitation to the Offering Give of your best to the Master, Give Him first place in your heart; Give Him first place in your service; Consecrate every part. Give, and to you shall be given God His beloved Son gave; Gratefully seeking to serve Him, Give Him the best that you have. Jason Stuart from Give of Your Best to the Master by Howard Benjamin Grose (1851-1939) *Doxology Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below Praise him above ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen. Bringing our gifts and / or lighting a candle Please feel free to go to either the front or the rear of the sanctuary. The children are excused at this time to attend Junior Chapel. Offertory Aria on Jewels Organ Dale Wood [tune by George E. Root] PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE SCRIPTURE READINGS Rev. Don Meekhof Ruby Bostrom Psalm 133 (ESV) 1 Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! 2 It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes!

3 It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life forevermore. John 17:20 23 (ESV) 17 I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me. MESSAGE The Beauty of Unity André Lewis Sermon Text: Psalm 133 *SONG OF WORSHIP: BIND US TOGETHER (Hymn #690) bind us together with cords that cannot be broken. bind us together, Lord, bind us together with love. There is only one God.

There is only one King. There is only one body, that is why we can sing: bind us together with cords that cannot be broken. bind us together, Lord, bind us together with love. BENEDICTION André Lewis POSTLUDE How Firm a Foundation Organ Steven Scott * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * In the pulpit today: André Lewis grew up in Spokane and attended Lewis and Clark High School. Upon graduation, he attended the University of Washington in Seattle. In 1993, he met his wife in Boulder Colorado while she attended the University of Colorado. At the time André was interning with a college ministry for a PC(USA) church. In 1995, they were asked by a Presbyterian Church to start a college ministry to students at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. After 6 years of serving college students they felt the need to be further equipped and thus began their seminary training in St. Louis. After graduating in May 2004 from Covenant Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity, the Lewis's moved to the Seattle area to share the grace of Christ by planting a new church called Redeemer Redmond. After more than a decade of ministering in Redmond, Andre accepted a call to be the next Executive Director of Spokane Youth For Christ. He has a deep love for the church and desires to see more and more strategic partnerships emerge over time. The Lewis's have been married for over 21 years and have three children: Karter, Warner and Landon
