MONSTER THEME TITLE: SQUISHING MOUTHY MONSTERS WITH GOD SUMMARY OF LESSONS LESSON ONE MOUTHY MONSTERS RUIN LIVES In this lesson, the children will learn how their words that come out of their mouth could ruin another person s life. God warns us about our words throughout the Bible, and the wickedness that can be the results of words as well as actions. God tells us in Proverbs 10:14 that Wise men store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool invites ruin. Sir Mouthy Monster Puppet will help the children know the difference between wise and foolish words. They will know the story of Noah and the Ark (Genesis 6-9) and understand that Noah said wise words while others said foolish words. They will learn that God squishes mouthy monsters! They will receive a squishy monster to squish with God s word. LESSON TWO - MEET A TWO HEADED MOUTHY MONSTER In this lesson, the children will be confronted with a two-headed mouthy monster named Slander and Gossip. Mouthy Monster Puppet will explain the terms of slander and gossip. God tells us in Proverbs 10:19 When words are many (like slander and gossip), sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise. The children will learn the story of the Israelites and the Golden Calf (Exodus 32) as an example of the mouthy monster of slander and gossip and the results of those words spoken by the people. LESSON THREE GOD SQUISHING OUR TWO HEADED MONSTER In this lesson, the children will be making playdoh and then create a two-headed monster named Gossip and Slander. They will memorize Proverbs 10:19, When words are many (like slander and gossip), sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise. and Proverbs 11:13, A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret. With these two Bible verses, God squishes this two-headed Mouthy Monster of Gossip and Slander. LESSON FOUR TRAPPY, THE MOUTHY MONSTER In this lesson, the teacher will use Trappy, the Mouthy Monster Puppet to help the children understand that their words can trap them in a situation that is very unpleasant. God tells how to squish this mouthy monster in Proverbs 6:2-3, If you have been trapped by what you said, ensnared by the words of your mouth, then do this, my Son, to free yourself, since you have fallen into your neighbor s hands: Go and humble yourself; press your plea with your neighbor! The children will look at various Bible verses in I Samuel 18-31. They will tell how King Saul was trapped by his words which caused David to run and hide. King Saul went to David, humbled himself and asked for forgiveness, but did not stay true to his word.

-2- LESSON FIVE GOD SQUISHING TRAPPY, THE MOUTHY MONSTER In this lesson, the children will memorize Proverbs 6:2-3, If you have been trapped by what you said, ensnared by the words of your mouth, then do this my Son, to free yourself, since you have fallen into your neighbor s hands: Go and humble yourself; press your plea with your neighbor! They will make a Squishy Drawing Board and create a drawing of Trappy, the Mouthy Monster. They will know the steps of squishing this Trappy Monster by God s words to #1 go to that person; #2 humble yourself and say you are truly sorry for your words; and #3 ask for forgiveness. LESSON SIX A GODLESS MOUTHY MONSTER In this lesson, the teacher will use the Godless Mouthy Monster Puppet to show how a godless person can destroy others with their words. God tells us that in Proverbs 11:9 With his Mouth, the godless destroys his neighbor, but thru knowledge the righteous escape. The children will learn the importance of God s word written in the Bible and how we need to read, love and understand His WORDS, so we can escape destruction. In Daniel 6, the children will look at the story of Daniel and the lions. LESSON SEVEN GOD SQUISHING THE GODLESS MOUTHY MONSTER In this lesson, the children will memorize Proverbs 11:9 With his Mouth, the godless destroys his neighbor, but thru knowledge the righteous escape. The children will create some Soap Dough and make a Godless Mouthy Monster. The soap flakes represent all the words a godless person throws at others and soon discovers that it becomes hard. The righteous people then can use the soap along with their knowledge of God and clean themselves, thus escaping destruction. LESSON EIGHT (HALLOWEEN) MEET A MOUTHY PUMPKIN MONSTER In this lesson, the children will understand that the messy, gooey, stuff of sin inside us can make our lives messy, sad and unbearable, just like Mouthy Pumpkin Monster who says anything. The children will understand John 3:16 while cleaning out Mouthy Pumpkin Monster. How do we feel when God cleans out the messes inside us? They will learn Psalms 119:105, Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path, and put a light in their pumpkin.

-3- LESSON NINE MEET THE RECKLESS MOUTHY MONSTER In this lesson, the children will understand that their words can sometimes be reckless, just spoken without thinking and hurt another as if that person was pierced with a sword. God tells us in Proverbs 12:18, Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. This monster goes around saying I don t have anything, no one cares, I am going to do what I want to do and say. Just as the disciples used reckless words to tell Jesus that there was not enough food to feed 5,000 people when he was preaching and they should be sent home. Their words pierce the heart of Jesus because they did not believe Jesus could solve the problem. (Mark 6:30-44) LESSON TEN (THANKSGIVING) GOD CHANGES RECKLESS MOUTHY MONSTER INTO THANKFUL MOUTHY MONSTER In this lesson, the children will memorize Proverbs 12:18 Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. This Reckless Mouthy Monster will change into a Thankful Mouthy Monster by using words of thankfulness and God s special wisdom. God s healing words of positive words will squish Reckless Mouthy Monster. The children will have contests on how many times they can stick their sticky, squishy lizard on the different food pictures on the wall. Each time they stick their lizard s tongue on the food, they will say Thank you God and Reckless Mouthy Monster will change into Thankful Mouthy Monster! LESSON ELEVEN MEET LYING TONGUE MOUTHY MONSTER In this lesson, the children will be introduced to Lying Tongue Mouthy Monster. They will understand that lies get them into more trouble. God wants us to be truthful to one another. Peter, a disciple of Jesus lied about not knowing Jesus after Jesus was arrested. Jesus had warned Peter that he would not know him then. Three times Peter denied not knowing Jesus and God wants us to learn how to squish this mouthy monster before we do our lies. In Proverbs 12:19, God tells us that Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment. LESSON TWELVE GOD SQUISHES LYING TONGUE MOUTHY MONSTER The children will create a lying tongue mouthy monster of jello by using plastic knives to make their shape of the Lying Tongue Mouthy Monster. They will memorize Proverbs 12:19. God squishes this mouthy monster by swallowing the lie quickly. Lies do not last long and they only get you into more trouble. The children will proceed to have an eating contest with jello to see who can make this Lying Mouthy Monster disappear the fastest.

-4- LESSON THIRTEEN (Christmas) WHAT MEAN MOUTHY MONSTER TREE SAYS Since Christmas would only be a couple of weeks away, this lesson is devoted to planning and practicing for the Sunday School children to present a short play, a song and prepare Christmas crafts. You may use these ideas or substitute your own plan. The song for the children to practice and memorize is Away in a Manger. The children will be painting six houses for the play and one Christmas tree. Children will be assigned to the eight characters to perform the skit, Christmas with Mean Mouthy Monster Tree. The play will be read and discussed with the children. LESSON FOURTEEN (CHRISTMAS) TREE CHANGING MEAN MOUTHY MONSTER The children will continue to practice the special play, their special song and create Christmas crafts of glitter ornaments, stars and the garland paper chain. They will discuss the special gift God gave to us for our salvation..baby Jesus! LESSON FIFTEEN (CHRISTMAS) PRESENTATION DAY!!!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND A HAPPY MOUTHY MONSTER CHRISTMAS TO ALL! LESSON SIXTEEN ANXIOUS MOUTHY MONSTER In this lesson, the children will learn what it means to complain, grumble and be anxious. Anxious Mouthy Monster will be presented to the children. God tells us in Proverbs 12:25 that An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up. God s chosen people, the Israelites, had a hard time not being anxious. In Exodus 17, they blame Moses for not having water to drink and feared they would die of thirst. With encouraging words, God provided for the Israelites water from a rock. The children will determine that the heavy weight of rocks with anxious words outweighs the tootsie pops with good taste, happy words, and kind words. Do they want their lives to be heavy or light?

-5- LESSON SEVENTEEN - GOD CHEERS UP ANXIOUS MOUTHY MONSTER In this lesson, the children will memorize Proverbs 12:25, An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up. Practicing using kind words and not being anxious, the children will stretch and fold taffy while listening to the Monster Mash and/or other dance music. Do the Monster Mash Dance with the kids, using kind, funny words to cheer Anxious Mouthy Monster up and turn him into a Happy Mouthy Monster. LESSON EIGHTEEN SPEAKING RASHLY MOUTHY MONSTER In this lesson, the children will understand that rashly spoken words can ruin their life as well as others. They will meet Speaking Rashly Mouthy Monster. God squishes this Mouthy Monster with Proverbs 13:3, He who guards his lips guards his life, but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin. The children will read Mark 4:35-41 to hear how the disciples spoke rashly and how Jesus performed a miracle of calming the sea. They will be making Speaking Rashly Mouthy Monster Paper bag puppet. LESSON NINETEEN POPPING THIS SPEAKING RASHLY MOUTHY MONSTER In this lesson, the children will be memorizing Proverbs 13:3, He who guards his lips guards his life, but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin. God tells us to guard our lips and not let these rash words out, so the children will be popping balloons with rash words and performing relay races. They will decorate a balloon and attach it to their wrist to remind them to pop their rash words and to guard what they say. LESSON TWENTY - PRIDEFUL MOUTHY MONSTER In this lesson, the children will see how pride can breed quarrels. They will meet Prideful Mouthy Monster and learn about how the Pharisees were trying to confront Jesus with the prideful rules of mankind to accuse his disciples in Mark 7:1-13. They will squish this Prideful Mouthy Monster by memorizing Proverbs 13:10, Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is found in those who take advice. They will have a Bubble gum blowing contest. LESSON TWENTY-ONE SQUISHING PRIDEFUL MOUTHY MONSTER In this lesson, the children will know that God wants us to take advice from others, as spoken in Proverbs 13:10, Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is found in those who take advice. We should not be so prideful, that we ignore the advice of other people. We should bounce our words to reflect advice and not quarrels. The children will be making bouncy balls to practice to bounce advice back and forth instead of quarreling.

-6- LESSON TWENTY-TWO (VALENTINE S DAY)- THE MOUTHY LOVE MONSTER In this lesson, the children will create a Mouthy Love Monster with the words of love that God has promised us. They will know that God truly loves them as said in, Isaiah 51:16 I have put my words in your mouth and covered you with the shadow of my hand I who set the heavens in place, who laid the foundations of the earth and who say to Zion, You are my people. God promises to be with us always and provided a way for us to love Him and come to Him in Romans 10:9, That if you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved! The children will read Exodus 16 and learn how God took care of his people. How does God take care of us today? The children will make Valentine cards for senior citizens to let them know that they are loved. LESSON TWENTY-THREE MEET HARSH MOUTHY MONSTER In this lesson, the children will know that harsh words said can bring about anger. God tells us in Proverbs 15:1, A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Jesus demonstrated this after his horrible death on the cross. He appeared to the disciples with gentle words to turn away the pain and anger they were feeling about his death. In Luke 24:36-53, there is joy and celebration, instead of anger and pain, at the resurrection of Jesus, providing us with salvation. LESSON TWENTY-FOUR A GENTLE MASK TO SQUISH HARSH MOUTHY MONSTER The children will be working with paper mache and create a gentle face for Harsh Mouthy Monster understanding that A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. (Proverbs 15:1) They will practice using gentle words instead of harsh words to respond to others. LESSON TWENTY-FIVE QUARRELING MOUTHY MONSTER? In this lesson, the children will examine themselves to see if they are A Quarreling Mouthy Monster. God tells us in Proverbs 17:14 that Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out. The children will perform a scientific experiment of what happens when a dam is breached. They will draw each other s faces when they pretend to quarrel. Did Jesus quarrel with the Priests when he was on trial for his life? (Luke 22:66-71 and Luke 23:1-23) What words did Jesus use?

-7- LESSON TWENTY-SIX GOD SQUISHES QUARRELING MOUTHY MONSTERS In this lesson, the children will create slime to absorb quarreling words and squish the Quarreling Mouthy Monster. They will memorize and understand what God says in Proverbs 17:14, Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks outs. LESSON TWENTY-SEVEN EASTER LESSON #1 MEET EVIL MOUTHY MONSTER In this lesson, Evil Mouthy Monster will use lies to get his way with the children. In Proverbs 15:28, God tells us that The heart of the righteous weighs its answers, but the mouth of the wicked gushes evil. How does God squish this mouthy monster? Satan is the father of lies.and they have to watch what they say and do they need to please Jesus and not Satan. The children will look at the death of Jesus and his burial in Luke 23:32-56. LESSON TWENTY-EIGHT EASTER LESSON #2 GOD S PLAN TO SQUISH THIS EVIL MONSTER In this lesson, Evil Mouthy Monster will think he conquered Jesus, as read in Luke 24:1-12. In Luke 24:36-49, Jesus gives power to defeat this Evil Mouthy Monster. The children will memorize John 3:16. What power did the risen Jesus give to his disciples? The children will understand that Jesus died on the cross and arose from the dead to conquer the Evil Mouthy Monster (sin) for us. The children will make crosses with colored beads as a reminder of the blood Jesus shed for us, to rid us of sin. LESSON TWENTY-NINE MEET AND BLAST ANGRY MOUTHY MONSTER In this lesson, the children will meet Angry Mouthy Monster. They will learn that God tells us in Proverbs 29:11 A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control. The children will discuss what makes them angry and how they need to control it. They will write their angry words on paper, tape it to tin cans, stack the cans up and blast them with rubber bands to bring them down. The rubber bands will be considered their rocket power from God and blast their angry words away!

-8- LESSON THIRTY MEET OPINIONATED MOUTHY MONSTER In this lesson, the teacher will present Opinionated Mouthy Monster who thinks his opinion is the only true fact. In Proverbs 18:2, God tells us that A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions. Just as Saul, in his opinion, all Christians needed to die, and God took action and in Acts 9, the children will see how God changed Saul s opinion. Saul then became Paul who was a great missionary for Jesus! The children can change their opinions and not become an Opinionated Mouthy Monster! LESSON THIRTY-ONE GOD BLOWS AWAY OPINIONATED MOUTHY MONSTER The children will memorize Proverbs 18:2, A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions. The children will be making bubble solution, blowing bubbles that represent their opinions and popping the bubbles, knowing that they can change their opinions for the purpose of serving God. LESSON THIRTY-TWO MEET CALAMITY MOUTHY MONSTER In this lesson, the children will learn the meaning of calamity to include deep misery, extreme misfortune or disaster. In watching what they say with their words, the children can avoid deep misery or extreme misfortune In Luke 15:11-31, Jesus warns the people of the calamities that could befall them by telling them the Parable of the Lost Son. God says in Proverbs 21:23, He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity. How did the one son use his words and fall into misfortune? LESSON THIRTY-THREE GOD ERUPTS THAT CALAMITY MOUTHY MONSTER In this lesson, the children will memorize Proverbs 21:23, He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity. The children will be making a small volcano (like our words) that erupts and dribbles over and over with calamity after calamity. They can put a stop to that by not using their words to provoke an eruption.

-9- LESSON THIRTY-FOUR MEET MOCKSTER MOUTHY MONSTER A mockster is someone who mimics in fun, scornful, and to deceive others. The children will read in Mark 15:16-31, that Jesus was mocked by the priest, people and Roman soldiers. God says in Proverbs 22:10, Drive out the mocker, and out goes strife, quarrels and insults are ended. The children will learn how they mock one another in their everyday conversations. LESSON THIRTY-FIVE GOD HALTS MOCKSTER MOUTHY MONSTER The children will be creating a Mockster Mouthy Monster from metal plates, screws, nuts and bolts. They will memorize Proverbs 22:10 and understand that plain hard facts are important when talking with one another. God calls us to not lie and NOT TO BE MOCKERS for the well-being of others. God does not squish this monster, but rather builds a strong, hard set of information about that person, thus the metal plates, etc. LESSON THIRTY-SIX MOUTHY MONSTERS USE GOD S WORDS This lesson is about how God wants US to use His words and not be a Mouthy Monster. As in Psalms 119:105, YOUR WORD IS A LAMP TO MY FEET AND A LIGHT FOR MY PATH! God tells us that His Words are what we need to watch our words that come out of our mouths. Otherwise, we may all turn into bad Mouthy Monsters. The children will make a face of a Mouthy Monster and glue on all the verses we have learned to the tongue of the monster and roll it up into its mouth. When unrolled, the words of the Mouthy Monster will be the words of God. CELEBRATION SUNDAY The children will be presented a Smiley Face Mouthy Monster Book that contains the pictures of all the Mouthy Monsters they have studied and the words of God that have helped squish these Mouthy Monsters. As God tells us in Joshua 1:8 DO NOT LET THIS BOOK OF THE LAW DEPART FROM YOUR MOUTH; MEDITATE ON IT DAY AND NIGHT, SO THAT YOU MAY BE CAREFUL TO DO EVERYTHING WRITTEN IN IT, THEN YOU WILL BE PROSPEROUS AND SUCCESSFUL.
