I Cor. 3: Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? Matt. :24, 25 24 25 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? II Cor. 5: 8 2 3 4 5 7 8 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life. Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

Luke 24:28 3 28 29 And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further. But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.
30 3 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. Rom. 2:, 2 2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Science and Health With Key to the Scriptures SH 475:5 4 9 2 Question. What is man? Answer. Man is not matter; he is not made up of brain, blood, bones, and other material elements. The Scriptures inform us that man is made in the image and likeness of God. Matter is not that likeness. The likeness of Spirit cannot be so unlike Spirit. Man is spiritual and perfect; and because he is spiritual and perfect, he must be so understood in Christian Science. Man is idea, the image, of Love; he is not physique. Fleshly factors unreal SH 470:23-24 24 Man is the expression of God's being. Indestructible relationship SH 280:25 30 Rightly understood, instead of possessing a sentient material form, man has a sensationless body; and God, 27 the Soul of man and of all existence, being perpetual in His own individuality, harmony, and immortality, imparts and perpetuates these qualities in man, through Mind, not matter. 30 Sensationless body SH 4: 3 If we are sensibly with the body and regard omnipotence as a corporeal, material person, whose ear we would gain, we are not absent from the body and present with the Lord in the demonstration of Spirit. We cannot serve two masters. To be present with the Lord is to have, not mere emotional ecstasy or faith, but the actual demon- Bodily presence
stration and understanding of Life as revealed in 9 Christian Science. To be with the Lord is to be in obedience to the law of God, to be absolutely governed by divine Love, by Spirit, not by matter. Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual, neither in nor of matter, and the body will then utter no complaints. If suffering from a belief in sickness, you will find yourself suddenly well. 2 5 Spiritualized consciousness SH 285: 8 2 The belief that a material body is man is a false conception of man. The time has come for a finite conception of the infinite and of a material body as the seat of Mind to give place to a diviner sense of intelligence and its manifestations, to the better understanding that Science gives of the Supreme Being, or divine Principle, and idea. Material misconceptions SH 279: 9 In proportion as the belief disappears that life and intelligence are in or of matter, the immortal facts of 8 being are seen, and their only idea or intelligence is in God. SH 45: 2 Glory be to God, and peace to the struggling hearts! Christ hath rolled away the stone from the door of human hope and faith, and through the reve- 8 lation and demonstration of life in God, hath elevated them to possible at-one-ment with the spiritual idea of man and his divine Principle, Love. 2 The stone rolled away SH 2:28 When you say, Man's body is material, I say with Paul: Be willing rather to be absent from the body, 30 and to be present with the Lord. Give up your material belief of mind in matter, and have but one Mind, even God; for this Mind forms its own likeness. Personal identity SH 48:3-4 Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. To divest 9 thought of false trusts and material evidences in order that the spiritual facts of being may appear, this is the great attainment by means of which we shall sweep 2 away the false and give place to the true. Thus we may establish in truth the temple, or body, whose builder and maker is God. SH 350:24 30 24 The Word was made flesh. Divine Truth must be known by its effects on the body as well as on the mind, before the Science of being can be demonstrated. Hence its embodiment in the incar- 27 nate Jesus, that life-link forming the connection through which the real reaches the unreal, Soul rebukes sense, and 30 Truth destroys error. SH 595:7 9 (to ;) TEMPLE. Body; the idea of Life, substance, and intelligence; the superstructure of Truth; the shrine of Love; 9 SH 57:4 25 5 8 2 24 The word temple also means body. The Revelator was familiar with Jesus' use of this word, as when Jesus spoke of his material body as the temple to be temporarily rebuilt (John ii. 2). What further indication need we of the real man's incorporeality than this, that John saw heaven and earth with no temple [body] therein? This kingdom of God is within you, is within reach of man's consciousness here, and the spiritual idea reveals it. In divine Science, man possesses this recognition of harmony consciously in proportion to his understanding of God. The shrine celestial SH 98:7 8 Body cannot be saved except through Mind. SH 34:2 22 2 5 When Jesus spoke of reproducing his body, knowing, as he did, that Mind was the builder, and said, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up, they thought that he meant their material temple instead of his body. materialists, the real man seemed a spectre, unseen and 8 unfamiliar, and the body, which they laid in a sepulchre, seemed to be substance. This materialism lost sight of the true Jesus; but the faithful Mary saw him, and he 2 presented to her, more than ever before, the true idea of Life and substance. Hymn. 5:-3 Eternal Mind the Potter is, And thought th' eternal clay: The hand that fashions is divine, His works pass not away. Man is the noblest work of God, His beauty, power and grace, Immortal; perfect as his Mind Reflected face to face. God could not make imperfect man His model infinite; Unhallowed thought He could not plan, Love's work and Love must fit. Life, Truth and Love the pattern make, Christ is the perfect heir; The clouds of sense roll back, and show The form divinely fair. God's will is done; His kingdom come; The Potter's work is plain. The longing to be good and true Has brought the light again. And man does stand as God's own child, The image of His love. Let gladness ring from every tongue, And heaven and earth approve. Hymn. 475:-4 Forget not who you are, O child of God, For God demands of you reflection pure; Your heritage is goodly, and your home, In Spirit's warm embrace, is safe, secure. You are the child of Spirit, sinless, pure Yours is a perfect beauty, born of Soul Complete with health, vitality, and grace. For is not God, your Father, perfect, whole? Your understanding, too, comes straight from God.
For in that Mind, magnificent and clear, You are conceived by Love, a perfect child, Unhampered by the flesh, or doubt, or fear. So now look up to God's pure holy light And greet with fearless joy each coming day. Of royal birth, you are a King's own child And God is yours, and you are God's alway. Hymn. 3:-4 A grateful heart a garden is, Where there is always room For every lovely, Godlike grace To come to perfect bloom. A grateful heart a fortress is, A staunch and rugged tower, Where God's omnipotence, revealed, Girds man with mighty power. A grateful heart a temple is, A shrine so pure and white, Where angels of His presence keep Calm watch by day or night. Grant then, dear Father-Mother, God, Whatever else befall, This largess of a grateful heart That loves and blesses all.
