Page 2 www.fpcpuyallup.org April 2016 The season of Lent is a journey toward the cross. We spend our forty days plus Sundays walking with Jesus down the road to Jerusalem. It is inevitable. It is necessary in order for us to be saved from ourselves. Now we have found ourselves on the other side of Good Friday, basking in the glow of resurrection light. Alleluia! Praise God for our salvation! Praise God for life and hope and promises fulfilled! In the forty days that followed (yes, another forty days) the risen Lord himself made appearances again and again to his disciples. You remember him walking the Emmaus road with two of his followers, opening up the scriptures to them in a way we can only imagine. You remember him in the upper room breathing the Holy Spirit into his disciples on Easter evening. It was the first blush of Pentecost, and it makes me want to breathe deeply too. You remember him building a fire on the shore to cook the fish caught from the other side of the boat. His repeated question to Peter, Do you love me? strikes at our very hearts as we imagine him asking the same thing of us. And then the words we have come to know as The Great Commission, Go therefore, and make disciples Along with those first followers, we are commissioned to make disciples. This is a season of the presence of Christ. This is a season of commissioning. This is the season that will culminate at Pentecost when we celebrate once again the gift of the Holy Spirit to the church to us we are the church. We are his church. Thank you, Presbyterian Women, for giving me the Honorary Life Membership. It was a complete surprise and something I will always cherish.
