Festive treats at St Cecilia Singers Christmas concert FESTIVE FAVOURITES 22 December 7pm at Gloucester Cathedral Tickets 15 in advance, 16 on the door, children under 18 free From Gloucester Tourist Information Centre and online from www.saintceciliasingers.org.uk. The Saint Cecilia Singers are serving up a parcel of festive treats at their annual Christmas concert at Gloucester Cathedral on Saturday 22 December at 7.00pm. Musical Director Jonathan Hope said: I have chosen some well-loved arrangements by Rutter, Darke, Joubert and Holst, a splendid Renaissance motet by Lassus, and newer pieces by Andrew Millington and Ashley Grote, my predecessors as Musical Director of the Saint Cecilia Singers. We also have favourite congregational carols and seasonal readings. With our concert taking place just three days before Christmas, we hope people will be able to escape the commercial pressures and take some time out to savour the true meaning of Christmas in the beautiful surroundings of Gloucester Cathedral. The Saint Cecilia Singers is Gloucester Cathedral s chamber choir - an auditioned choir of around 30 enthusiastic and gifted amateur and semi-professional singers. It performs up to six concerts per year including an annual Christmas concert at Gloucester Cathedral as well as taking part in the Cathedral Choirs Days and occasional Evensongs. In 2016, the choir performed the world premiere of Philip Lancaster s War Passion, commissioned by the Three Choirs Festival. In 2019 the choir will celebrate its 70 th anniversary. 2

Four visits to each of the three selected schools are arranged to help develop singing and encourage pupils and teachers to enjoy the benefits of group music-making. The project culminates at the end of each term when the school choirs perform a concert in the Cathedral to an audience of proud families, relations, school staff and friends. We are very grateful to the generous donors who make this project such a success and look forward to continuing this valuable work in Gloucestershire schools. Everyone is welcome. Admission to the concert is free with a retiring collection for the Music Department s outreach work. 4

Support the Glory of Music Choral music has been an integral part of Cathedral life for almost 500 years and breathes life into our wonderful building and brings joy to us all. In Gloucester we are rightly proud of our musicians and the quality of our choirs. If you wish to keep our choral tradition alive, please support our choirs. The Youth Choir, Junior Choir, boy and girl choristers all depend on your support. Help Cathedral music to thrive by making a donation or leaving a gift in your will or by becoming a Music Patron for as little as 10 a month.
