Term 3 week ending 10th August 2018 This week the Lutheran value that we are focussing on as a school is peacefulness. What is peacefulness? I believe it is the ability to feel at peace and calm in ourselves, even when surrounded by chaos and problems to solve. To seek inner peace and pursue it is a challenging task. Peacefulness in body and mind is a hard thing to achieve, even for us as adults. But, as Proverbs 14:30 states, a heart at peace gives life to the body. I feel the pressure of life often on my shoulders. I live alone, support myself and also have the privilege and responsibility of educating and caring for 19 little people 5 days a week. I am 500 km away from my home region, many friends and my family. But despite this I feel mostly at peace and calm. Do I know what my future holds? No, I am not sure. But what I do know is that God has a plan for all of us. We are each born as a unique being, all possessing our special mix of gifts and talents. I have used my gifts of patience, kindness and a love of learning to seek a teaching career and pursue it. I feel that when we find our passion and also an ability to serve others using our God given gifts, we find inner peace. We are doing God s work we are His hands. We will face challenges. We will face problems. But we are following a plan that was made at the time we were created. When we feel lost we need to find peace and remember that we will never be alone. After all, God s love never fails. Devotion By Sarah Davis, Foundation/Year 1 Teacher
Welcome to Week 3 A very warm welcome to Week 3. We have already had many exciting events happen this term including school photos, creation of our Prayer Garden, ALWS Day for our senior students and the start of the last 4 week block of Tomatis. However, the highlight for me over the past 2 ½ weeks is seeing our entire school community demonstrate many acts of kindness. Acts of kindness in action at LLS Students saying thank you to each other. Students organising and preparing fundraising activities for people in need. Well done to Charlie, Amelia and Maritoni!! Our entire school community working extra hard and putting in their best effort for each other. Students smiling and saying hello to each other. (It s free, easy and always makes others feel good). Staff offering to cover yard duties for each other. Parents and members of the community volunteering their time to make our school a better place. Offering of praise to each other (a compliment always feels wonderful). Our class carers creating care meals for those in need. If we all infuse positivity and encourage the spread of kindness our world will be a better place! Kindness creates a safe and positive learning environment where students feel valued and heard. Thank you to all who continue to spread kindness at LLS. It s contagious! But the Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23) Random Acts of Kindness Over the last month our school has been the recipient of many generous donations. These donations have truly made a difference to all the students that attend our school and we have all been truly blessed by their generosity. LLS would like to thank: The Hughes Family who have kindly offered to donate $100 per student for the new school uniform. This amazing donation will be available until the end of Term 1, 2019. We are so thankful for their amazing act of kindness. The Rotary Club who donated over $700.00 to update our First Aid Rooms. Their kind donation will ensure the continued wellbeing and safety of all of our students. Crowies in Mt Barker who supplied all of the paint and materials to update the Boy s Toilets. The boys are so excited! Marc and Alyssa Fox, David and Tamra Schwartz for all of their assistance in preparing and creating our Prayer Garden. The students absolutely love it! The Lord shows His love for us through special people like you! Thank you for your kindness, generosity and thoughtfulness. Blessings, Cassie Kopias, Principal
2019 As we enter into Term 3 we are beginning to look at class structures, staffing and resourcing for next year. If you know that you will not be at Lobethal Lutheran School next year can you please let us know, in writing, at your earliest convenience. Hutt Street Centre Hi, my name is Charlie Vorwerk and I have been collecting 10c recycling containers for the homeless. So far I have raised over $1000.00. On Monday, Mrs Kopias will be placing wheelie bins out in the school yard to help me reach my goal of $3000.00. It would really help me if you could please bring your 10c containers to school and place them in the bins provided. Together everyone achieves more. Thank you, Charlie Vorwerk Uniform News A big thank you to Alyssa Fox and the uniform committee for finalising our new school uniform. A uniform pack went home earlier this week with all the relevant information relating to the transition. Please note that we have now extended this deadline until the end of Week 5, this term, for those who wish to start wearing the new uniform in Term 4, 2018. The generosity of the Hughes Family has provided a once off subsidy of $100.00 per student to assist with the uniform transition.
