The Church celebrates the memory of the Lord s Presentation in the temple with the blessing of candles. Candles will be blessed at both Queen of Peace & St. Veronica before Mass on Saturday. Candles will also be available after all Masses at both Queen of Peace & St. Veronicas the weekend of February 3, 2019. Please take a candle (while supplies last) for a special occasion. There is no charge for the candles but there will be a basket for donations. FEAST OF ST. BLAISE Sunday, February 3, 2019 Throats will be blessed at Queen of Peace & St. Veronica During all Masses February 3, 2019 We remember Saint Blaise on this day by the Blessing of the Throats. Two candles are blessed, held slightly open, and pressed against the throat as the blessing is said. Saint Blaise's protection of those with throat troubles comes from a legend that a boy was brought to him who had a fishbone stuck in his throat. The boy was about to die when Saint Blaise healed him. I am asking all our parishioners to take the following precautions to help mitigate the effects of the influenza (flu). Parishioners are asked not to shake hands with the Priest, Deacons, Altar Servers and Eucharistic Ministers before/after Mass. Parishioners are asked to share the Sign of Peace with fellow parishioners without touching hands or kissing. This can be done with meaningful eye contact, smiles, and a bow of the head in reverence to one another or the Holy Wave. Thank you, Father Beck 2
