From the Editor Greetings to you in the name of Jesus! The rhythm of life is now deepened in the note of sorrow and fear. The instances which occur around compel one to believe so. How one can easily forget the innocent face of the eight year old Asifa Bano, who had been raped, strangled with her own scarf and bashed in the skull with a hard rock? Now we have mastered the habit of politicizing even the swing of human emotions. Apart from solidarity through a virtual platform, organizing a protest in the streets and high sounding words which makes one feel that 'we are with the victim'; for what change do we long for? Instances which are similar, we have seen in many. What had happened in the previous cases repeats now too, sad to note. Judiciary and law makers stand by the side of the criminals and raising voices of advocacy for them; how heinous the scene is? Being in a land, where communal forces and religious fundamentalists gain momentum each second, where do we mark our life's distinctiveness as Christians. We all are in a mission, which had been duly assigned by God to express the meaning of His mission through the lives we lead. Let our worships be God-pleasing and we pray to the Holy Spirit to guide and to lead us in true faith and with an uncompromising commitment towards God. Respond to the ills around and relive the face of what it means to be a 'Christ-like'. Dear readers, I was deeply amazed by the participation of many who have turned up for the Prakash Sathyan Memorial Short Story Competition. Literature has life, and it has to be enlivened by the generation who keenly watches every turn which occurs around. Situations of life and the things which evolve around us should find spirit and meaning through our writings and I encourage everyone to nurture your talent to pen.let your imaginations fly and definitely that would one day be a well-noted one. The Vacation Bible School which was held in our church was a blessing and I congratulate the children, the trainers/teachers and all those were a part of this wonderful move of the church. The children made themselves free from the strenuous academic pressure through which they were undergoing in the past one year. Let this vacation be a fruitful time, where you can dream and plan your future and getting set to work for it. My best wishes to all my young friends who are eagerly waiting to enter into new classes and also for those who are with much excitement joining for various higher levels of academics. Let you all be a success and turn out to be a blessing for many. "I believe that in each generation, God has called enough men and women to evangelize all the yet unreached tribes of the earth. It is not God who does not call. It is man who will not respond" - Isobel Kuhn I wish you all a blessed May! In His Service Rev. Rohan P. 2 N v thmbnkv sabv 2018

Story - Senior I st Prize Can a Mother Forget... Premila Sylum A middle class Christian Family was sitting in the living room on a centrally- placed settee set with handmade cotton cushions and hand - embroidered covers with scenes from nature- a flowing brook, coconut trees and ducks and egrets applique - worked on it with bits of clothes leftover from stitching. It was in fact a hard- working family with mother toiling from morning to night, teaching and taking private tuitions with the children assisting in the household chores. The father was an asthma patient and could not hold regular job. They had a grandmother with broken-hip and bedridden and pretty old but her presence made the house lively with relatives visiting to hear her share her deep faith in God. The family lived a very contended life and cherished ideals of Christian vertues. It never pinched their hearts to share their material things, property or time with the needy. Grandmother was an embodiment of love and affection and imparted Christian virtues in the home. The house was in a fertile land of 50 cents with copius front yard and full of all varieties of fruit bearing trees and flowering plants. There were mango, guava, jackfruit, cutard apple, mulberry, Cashew nut and tamarind trees to name only a few. Flowering plants included Jasmine (the native mullai and kudamullai), different varieties of hybiscus sweet smelling Ganthaka rajan, medicinal shrub called Nanthiar vattam, Cork trees shedding star like flowers almost through out the year, box wood tree laden with white fragrant flowers many times in an year and cherry blossom creeper climbing and flowering over it. Once when our Alfred Achen visited the house with N v thmbnkv sabv 2018 13

kochamma, he was awe struck and said it is like the Garden of Eden. The family always had atleast one dog, one cat, some hens (ducks too) and one time a goat with two kids. Each one of them was treated with love and as part of the family. There was peaceful co-existence and the animals also reciprocated the affection.once when our grandmother went out in the night to answer the call of nature, tripped over a root and broke her hip, we children were deep asleep in her room. It was our dog Brownie who found this out, went and consoled her and came in and woke us up by licking us!. On this particular evening the sun had set early and the weather was frightening with frequent thunders, lightnings strong wind the force of the wind with small branches breaking and falling. It was altogether a chilly and cold night. The parents and children, also an aunt and uncle were sitting and conversing. It was a happy occasion for it never occured to the elders to discuss bad or disturbing matters, or to talk ill of others in front of the children or rather ever. They always talked respectfully about others and even if they ever joked it was clean and educative. So the children also grew up in a puritan manner and cherished good values, helping others and treated others, whether younger or older with respect. Suddenly there was a big crashing sound in the backyard. One branch of a big mango tree, which we used to call. the mango tree close to the house broke and fell down. And immediately we could hear the cry of a mother squirral, with alarm in her voice, and the Screeching of a little one from the ground. The rain had become drizzling by now and we got up from the cosy living room went to investigate with a torch. It was so dark that we could not locate the little one from the fragments of the fallen nest. After some time we abandoned the search, though the mother was still making alarming cries. When we were searching, the dog Brownie also came out but we chased him out lest he harms the little one. But a few minutes after we had settled down after our futile attempts Brownie came in with something in its mouth and laid it down gently in front of the family. What did we see? A very tiny squirrel, with no hairs, eyes closed, a little spot of blood from the bruise of fall, but otherwise ok. We praised God for the doggie and took care of the little tiny one. We put her in some medicinal cottonwool, in a palmyra box. We safely placed her in an almyra (big book shelf) the upper portion of a heritage rose wood chest of drawers. 14 N v thmbnkv sabv 2018

In the moring we were relieved to see the tiny one alive and healthy. Knowing we couldnot look after it, we wanted to return it to her mother if she will accept. We took it out with the box and immediatly she made a cry and the mother gave return cry from far away from some trees in the forest like cliff house compound. So we placed box in a fork -like branch of the same tree from where it had fallen. We came into the house and peeped through a slit in a window, watching -like the sister of Moses after placing baby Moses in the reeds at Nile river. Within minutes the mother came and took her little one in her mouth to the safe keeping of the nest. Hence, I have named this story or rather incident as can a mother forget...? Over the years, winds of misfortunes had swept over this happy family. Of course there were small small winds which the family tided over with Jesus as the anchor and rock of refuge. But a great storm befell when one daughter went away as did the Prodigal son of the Bible, to seek her fortune away from the happy home, lost all that she had to such a situation that she considered quitting from the world itself. But the family as a whole and especially her mothers constant love and prayers lifted her up to face the world and succeed. Now that family lives in the same house, as a shelter for others and for dogs and cats and other living creatures and turning the house and surroundings flowering and fruit yielding. Thus this is again a story of paradise lost to paradise regained. t]pv 8 \n pw XpS... a\-kn-s bpw Btcm-KysØ sa -s -Sp-Øp- p. _p n-bp- -h-sc- mƒ A[zm-\-io-e h t\ -߃ ssih-cn- p- p. hnp-b-tkm-]m-\-߃ Ibdm km[m-cw _p n axn-sb- nepw B _p n apgp-h\pw ITn\ A[zm- \-Øn-eqsS D]-tbm-Kn- p- -h-cmwv hnp-bn- p- -Xv. ho nse sim p sim p tpmen-iƒ XpWn \\-bv p-i, ap w shsn- m- p-i, Xq p-i, XpS- p-i, ]m{xw Igp-Ip-I, he-b-sn- p-i, snsn \Sp-I, snsn v shffw Hgn- pi XpS-ßn-bh snøp- -Xn-eqsS `mhn-bn G-sXmcp sxmgnepw kzoi-cn- m k - X e`n- p- p. Story - Senior 3 rd prize A CHRISTIAN FAMILY- PAST & PRESENT Arun Wilson Briefing about the story This story is about a typical Christian Family who are hailing from a strong Christian Background from the Southern Part of Kerala- Trivandrum. This story depicts about the changes that happens in a Christian Family from past to this present era. Heavenly Abode is the name of the House where this family is staying and here I am going to highlight about some interesting happenings during the Easter Day during the timeline 1960 s to 2020 s in this family. Let me first introduce some of the characters or family members present in this short story: 1. Mathai Head of Family 2. Threasea Wife of Mathai 3. Joseph Mathai Elder Son of Mathai & Threasea 4. Marykutty Daughter of Mathai & Threasea 5. Manju- Daughter in Law- Wife of Joseph 6. Thomas Son in Law- Husband of Marykutty 7. Sherin, Merin and Joemon- Grand Children of Mathai and Threasea. Past Scene (1960-70 s Timeline) That day was an Easter Day and it was about 5.30 AM in the morning, Mathai got up on hearing the rooster crowing in the morning, and then called Threasea, who also woke up, they both praised their Living GOD kneeling down at their bed side for all good things that were happening in their family, and for all their loved ones and dear-ones. Also they prayed to God for getting one more blessed day in their life. Theresa then went to the Kitchen to start her day for making breakfast and Lunch. Mathai also started his day by feeding the Cows, Rooster, Hens, Ducks, Birds etc., cattle which are grown up by him. He then started collecting some eggs which was laid by Hens and Ducks. Also he collected some milk from the Cows and gave it to Threasea. Then he watered all the flowering plants, coconut and mango trees and other seedlings in their compound which comprised of around 50 cents of land. Altogether we can see a lot of living things in and around this house- Truly a Heavenly Abode. 20 N v thmbnkv sabv 2018

Then Mathai went to call up their children- Joseph and Marykutty, who were still sleeping in their bed. When Mathai called them, they both woke up obediently and started to get ready to go to Church. By around 8.00 AM, after having a cup of tea each, they all got ready, took their Holy Bibles, Song Books in their hands and got into their Old Car prayerfully. Mathai drove the car prayerfully, and they all went to Church happily. They all prayed earnestly to GOD, Sang Songs along with the Choir, Read Holy Bible, Heard Message from Pastor, Took Holy Communion. Afterwards when they came out of the church, they met the pastors of the church, they met their relatives, friends, well wishers, exchanged words of love among their fellow brothers and sisters. They drove back to their home- Heavenly Abode. They sat together at the dining table and had their breakfast. Marykutty went to kitchen to give a helping hand to her mother who was busy preparing food for Lunch. Since it was Easter day, Mathai took his son, Joseph to Market and they bought fresh Chicken, Beef, Pork, some wine and cake for the Easter Day. They all together prepared for Lunch and Dinner. Then they sat together remembered the love of Christ, who died for us on Cross and rose again on the third day. They spread this love of Christ to their neighbours and their well wishers by giving / sharing a small portion of food they had prepared for the Easter day. That day was a BLESSED DAY for this family. Everywhere it was 'GOD's LOVE' that was reflected and indeed everyone told in their heart- "Truly Mathai's family is a blessed one...". But Time has changed everything...even if the children are taught in the ways of leading the true ways of Christian life, this world where we live in can change any person... NOW: Present Scene (2010-2020 Timeline) "Heavenly Abode"- has changed a lot- renovated and have changed from that old traditional Kerala House (Tiled House) to a modern house (Concrete Building) with two storeys with paved tiles all around the house. Now this house has got a compound wall, some of the portion of land has been sold by Mathai's children- Joseph and Marykutty and now only the N v thmbnkv sabv 2018 21

family house and its land where this house still remains. There is no cattle sheds with cows, chickens or ducks inside this compound. No plants or big trees like coconut trees, mango trees are there inside the compound wall. Three big cars are parked in front of the house. Now on Easter Day, the house seems to be very silent. Mathai, Head of Family is no more; He was taken to Our Lord, Saviour one year back due to bad health and illness at an old age. Now Threasea, who is bed ridden due to old age is looked after by their son, Joseph- Bank Employee and his family- Manju - Beautician, Owner of a Beauty Parlour in City(Joseph's Wife), Sherin (Plus Two Student) and Joemon (5th Standard Student). They are staying in this house. Due to holidays of Good Friday and Easter, Marykutty (Daughter of Mathai & Threasea) and her Family is there at the top floor of the house. On Easter day, even when it is 7.30 AM, no one has woke up till now for the day. Suddenly a bell sound is heard from one of the mobile phones, Manju who heard this sound, woke up and started shouting at her husband in their mother tongue language- Malayalam- "Edo Manushya!! Onnu Enneekku Manushya, Innu Easter allee...enthengillum undakandee...ningaludee pengalum aliyanum vannittu ennekku nallu dhivasam aayiii...pani eduthu eduthu entee naduvu odinju..onnu poyiii avaree villikku manushya". On hearing this, Joseph got angry at her and then left the room. He first went to call their children who were sleeping late during the night watching movies in TV- Sherin and Joemon. They were fast asleep and did not even bothered to get up. He called again and was scolded by his own children- "Pappa- Onnu Poyikkee!! Innu Nyarayichaayittu nammalle onnu urangan pollum viddutilleee...onnu poikkee papa". Joseph tried a lot but in vain went to see Manju, his wife who were busy making breakfast in the Kitchen. She scolded him badly and told him to call his sister and family. Joseph then went to call his brother-in-law and family, who were sleeping on the top portion of the house. Joseph woke up his sister, Marykutty and his brother in law, Thomas, both were Gazetted Officers employed in Central Government Companies. On hearing his brother calling, Marykutty woke up suddenly and went to kitchen to help Manju and Thomas also woke up and started a conversation with Joseph enquiring about the timing of the Holy Service at church on that day. He came to know that apart from the morning Holy Communion service there was an evening service at 4.00 PM. So he asked Joseph whether they can go for the evening service and they can plan for an outing during the morning hours. Joseph agreed 22 N v thmbnkv sabv 2018

to his plan, since their children were fast asleep and his wife was in a very bad mood, they planned it out to have food from outside even it was a special day. Not only that they can't leave their Mother- Theresa alone in the house, who was bedridden at that time. So she needs to be taken care by someone from their neighbourhood when they go out. She had a home nurse but she had gone home on that day since it was Easter Day. Here what had happened to this family is that they were possessed by the worldly things like Shopping Malls with movie theatres, restaurants, Money, TV, Mobile Phones etc. - worldly pleasures which DEVIL tempts us now a days in many ways. Manju, who was the mother of two children and was head of the family was running a Beauty Parlour and had no time to pray for her family. She always complained about her Mother in law, who was bed ridden and about her husband, who was busy all the time. No peace was there in this family. Marykutty and his husband had no problem what so ever financially and were well off in every matter, but they had no time for the living God and there was no family prayer time in their family. They lead a busy life in the city. Their children who were obsessed by several electronic devices like Mobile, TV, LapTop, Ipads etc. had no time to look at the living God and was not guided to have family prayer time, or to attend Sunday School in Church. They were left unattended. So this all lead the family members to skip the morning 'Holy Communion service' on Easter Day and thereby skip the Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner together in their home and this day was not a blessed one for this family. Just look around us, whether we and our neighbouring families are also facing similar type of situations that we even forget that "JESUS CHRIST" who died for our sins on Cross, rose again on the third again will come again and we have to face that "Judgment Day". Easter Day remembers us how much a Sinner we were in this world. Conclusion: In the beginning we can see that Mathai and Theresa prayed to GOD earnestly and that is why their children were blessed with good Jobs, Children and Family. But now a days, we don't have time to pray to God to repent our sins to our living God- we simply live our life in this world with all the blessings we gain from this world which offers us that DEVIL creates. So how we are going to celebrate the Easter day with our friends and well wishers and spread the LOVE OF GOD among others...so think my dear brothers and sisters in Christ 'IS THIS WHAT WE EXPECT IN A CHRISTIAN FAMILY NOW'??? Story - Juniors 1 st Prize Tim, can you switch off the light in the kitchen please? asked mom on a Saturday evening. Why should I, when I play on my play time, on a Saturday evening? shouted Tim at her mom, and continuing his Video Game (PlayStation v3) Angry Birds - Star Wars. By this little response, he lost his favorite game. Oh mom, it s all because of you, that I lost a game, you always bother and mess up my game, I don t want to lose a game. By this behavior, her heart broke and she switched off the light. Tim asked Daddy, can you get me a new PS4, it s a special edition has released recently. We can go today evening. Okay? This is the fifth time Tim is asking for a PlayStation. But son, replied dad, You already have four PlayStations. But Tim s mom said, Yeah, your dad is right son. You have four and you first got to play with them. Tim got frustrated and said, Enough, I always listen you and you never listen to me! and he ran to his room and slammed the door and got into his room. The remaining day he Tim did not come out. For dinner, he took his plate and went to his room. The next day was Sunday. Tim and his family went to Church. The Pastor started to speak and then the choir sang. Tim was getting irritated and said, When will the church service get over? It s so boring. What s the point coming to Church? Next Sunday, Tim saw his mom packing his bag with his Pen, Book, and Bible. Why are you packing my bag? asked Tim. Wait and See said his mom. Tim and his family drove to Church. Tim s mother made him sit in Sunday School and put him in a class and went. The Sunday School teacher told to open their Bibles. Tim seemed to be disobedient. After class, teacher asked Tim, Do you respect your parents?. Yes answered Tim thoughtfully. Are you sure? asked the teacher. Yes Tim said again. Then teacher taught Tim Ephesians 6:1 Children obey your parents in the LORD and Honor them and teacher explained that, it comes N v thmbnkv sabv 2018 A Boy Who Found Christ Nathaniel Joshua 25

with a Promise of God as well to kids those who obey and honor their parents. Tim never heard about it before with such clarity. Now Tim asked, Teacher should I need to obey my parents? Otherwise what will happen to me? His teacher replied Tim, if you don t obey your parents, you cannot make it to heaven. Tim gasped. Then he asked, Teacher so what should I do to get to heaven?. If you want to obey your parents and ask for forgiveness from God, you can get to heaven replied teacher. Then Tim as feeling different from before, after he really prayed to God and confessed his disobedience and asked help as well. Then one day, when Tim s dad went to office, Tim asked mom that if he could talk to her for some time. She said OK. Then he apologized to her asking for forgiveness for what all bad he had done. Finally, he asked, Will you forgive me, Mother?. Son, what happened to you? You never asked me like this before? asked mom. Tim replied: Mom I got right with God a few days ago, that s all. Then Tim asked the same thing to his Dad. This incident is a milestone in Tim s life. Years passed by When Tim grew up, studied well, got a decent job, and saved some (money) for his life and married a godly person like him and God blessed them with 2 children. Story - Juniors 2 nd Prize Chirstian Family Harini P. Once upon a time there was a family in Germany. There was a mother, daughter and a father. They were happy and kind. The daughter was very intelligent. Her name was Sharon. Her mother s name was Hannah and her father s name was Paul. Anyway the family liked Germany very much. It was very enjoyable. They liked it so much that they wanted to stay there. But their visa officer had other plans. He did not want them to get their visa at all. He was a grumpy person and he was very mean. So one day they went to get their visa but a shocking surprise was there waiting for them. The case officer stood there with a nasty grin on his face. He said in a snobby voice Your visa will get rejected and i ll make sure of it. Nobody knew why he suddenly did that but it s not like anybody cared. When they went home they knelt before Jesus and prayed for the visa. Jesus answered them with a verse from Psalms. It was Psalms 37:4 Seek your happiness in the Lord and he will give you your heart s desire. So they did not give up instead they were not worrying about it but praying to Jesus about it. One day they miraculously got their visa and Permanent Residence. Sharon s Father also got a job in Germany. They thanked Jesus and threw a huge party. It was full of sweets and decor. It was one of the best parties ever. They lived happily ever after. They liked it much. As a Christian family we must not fear about problems, instead we should kneel down to Jesus and seek our happiness in him. So that Jesus will fulfill our heart s desire. Thank you Jesus. Story - Juniors 3 rd Prize A new home for bear Merlin Jose Once up on a time there lived a family. The family members are pappa, mamma, daughter and a baby. In that forest there was an active volcano. The family prayed every day to God to live happily. One day the volcano exploded and lava came down. The bears took their personal things and ran away, they reached Red wood Forest in that forest. So many woods were there in the ground pappa bear saw it and said look look there is some wood they were very happy and mamma bear said we can build a house with the wood they started to build the house. But they cannot build the roof of the house. Then a bear came there. The family asked the bear to help them. The Bear said I will help you. They together ; built the house and they lived happily. Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts 1:8 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 28 N v thmbnkv sabv 2018

My Daddy Bejoy Peter C. V. I write this in the afterglow of a flaming sunset. My Daddy, who loved me dearly, has gone to be with the Lord Jesus Christ. My dad, P. Christudas, was 83. Even when I miss him much, the lessons and Christian values he taught me remain. He has left behind a legacy that I wish others too can benefit from. It is this motivation that makes me pen this tribute. Best Gift The best gift Daddy gave each of us three children was an English Bible. Along with it he instilled in us the habit of attending Church as first priority on Sundays. He sent us to Sunday School, VBS and CEF camps. These shaping influences of childhood helped us to know God. Perhaps the greatest thing Daddy did for us is this one thing helping us to have a personal relationship with God through his life and example. Absolute Trust He was a man with absolute trust in God. He never questioned God even once in his life. He faced difficulties in life with manly courage, patience and great perseverance. In this he was like Job. When me and my brother and sister were little children; my mother was sick constantly and often hospitalized. During those times Daddy singlehanded did much household work, send us all to school and did his office work as well. Even though he never told us at that time there was an incident which shows his faith in a prayer-answering God. Daddy in later years told us that one day my mother passed away. And Daddy cried out to God in prayer and God gave back Mummy. I have never heard him request prayer from anyone. This was because he knew that God always listened to his prayers and cared. Simple Living Daddy was born in early 1930 s in a village called Amaravila. He belonged to thekariyilthottamfamily famously known for their traditional medicine (Vaidyans) and martial art expertise. He along with his brother and cousins came up in life from very poor circumstances through their faith in God and hard work. I remember him telling me of a time when he walked from Neyyattinkara to Trivandrum (24 kms. one way) and back to buy medicines for N v thmbnkv sabv 2018 29

his mother. Throughout his life he lived in a simple way and was never ever obsessed with material possessions. He had a thankful heart all the time. Love for Me Luke Chapter15 in Action Once during my pre-degree days I went for chemistry tuition near Mar Ivanios College in the morning after quarrelling with Daddy. So I went without eating breakfast as a protest. While the tuition was going on the doorbell sounded. I was surprised to see Daddy standing outside. He had come in search of me (he knew the location but not the exact home where the tuition was going on). My tuition teacher wished Daddy as he recalled that Daddy had taught him at St. Joseph s high school long ago (Dad retired as Senior Superintendent of Government Press). Daddy took me to a hotel nearby and got me breakfast. At another time I had gone to a nearby shop to get air checked for my bike. But then I made a quick change in my plan and instead of going back home I went somewhere else. I was delayed for a long time and when I was coming back I saw Daddy come walking in search of me. It touched me deeply. This incident happened a few years after I had finished my college education! Kingmaker Late Very Rev. Philip David the first Secretary of our Diocese used to call Daddy Kingmaker. One instance that I remember is how Late A. Charles former M.P. used to constantly say that it was Daddy who once confronted him while he was very young with the ultimatum to take up leadership of the Diocese in the best interests of the same. And it was from that point that A. Charles had a meteoric rise in his life. After my Dad s passing away people from Amaravila CSI Church recalled Daddy s tremendous influence with a group of like-minded friends who worked untiringly to bring positive changes in our Diocese. One person described him as the nerve centre of these discussions though he never came into the limelight or took up a leadership position. Relationship with Bishop Jesudasan Daddy and Late Most Rev. Dr. I. Jesudasan were the sons of brothers. They were closely knit in heart and soul. We grew up enjoying the very personal love and care of Bishop Jesudasan. Till his passing away in 2013, we were blessed by his presence, guidance, encouragement and prayer. Bishop Jesudasan was the elder Das in the family and my Dad was lovingly known as Kochu Das. Such a blessed and intimate relationship was theirs! As children we spent much time at the Bishop s House playing and our memories are filled with the joyous time we had there and the momentous and indelible influence Bishop Uncle had in our lives! Sweet Hour of Prayer Daddy led family prayers each morning and night. His singing familiar hymns and his prayers will stay with us all our lives. One of my close friends told me 30 N v thmbnkv sabv 2018

that he was surprised when I told him about Daddy s prayer even in his last days. Daddy was staying in my sister s home in Vellore the last few months of his along with my mother and brother. During that time I visited him during weekends. Whenever I was about to come back, he sent me back each time after praying for me and encouraging me to live life with courage and trust in God. Even in his illness he was upholding me and our family members in prayer! Two days prior to his death, he in much physical difficulty, raised his voice while he was lying in bed to complete my prayer on my children s birthday and said a loud Amen. It was a great surprise to all of us. It was always Daddy s privilege to lead in prayer on all our birthdays and this was the last benediction he made on such an occasion. Above all else, his prayers always centred on the Heavenly Father s care and on the shed blood of Jesus on the cross! Skills I inherited several of my skills from my Daddy especially the ability to speak and write and to organize events. When I first spoke at Amaravila CSI Church when I had passed SSLC, several of the elder generation there came and told me that it was so similar to how Daddy used to speak in his younger days. Also several people even today testify of Dad s brilliant ability to draft letters and documents. Added to all this Daddy had excellent public relations as well. He had a smile from the heart and a genuine concern for others. He was there for others especially all his cousins and children in their times of need and grief and other special occasions as well. Most of them sought his advice and practical wisdom in making major decisions. Another great quality of my Dad was that he never cowered under pressure and stuck to his well-thought out decisions with rock-like steadfastness. Tribute Daddy disciplined me physically until my tenth standard. Though those memories are not pleasant the fruit of it proves the Biblical wisdom stated in Proverbs 13:24; 23:13, 14 and 22:6. In all my life there were very few conflicts between me and my Dad. But there were a couple of major decisions that I took which was against his wishes not pursuing Civil Services as a career and resigning from Government Service. But in spite of these decisions that went against his desires his love for me never changed. And I believe that this freedom he allowed me to take major decisions on my own is one most important quality of his life. Above all, I want to thank God for giving me the blessing of such a Daddy honest and faithful; a man of integrity, prayer and trust in God. He who fears the LORD has a secure fortress, and for his children it will be a refuge (Proverbs 14:26 NIV). Daddy loved us and sacrificed everything for us; especially our education. He helped us to know God personally. What more can a dad do? N v thmbnkv sabv 2018 31
