Amen Confession and Forgiveness Let us come into the light of Christ, confessing our need for God s mercy. Silence is kept for reflection. 2

Almighty God, We confess that we are often not at peace with others or with ourselves. We bring to you all that pulls us apart: discord in our families, violence in our world, and our own conflicted hearts. In your mercy, Lord, heal us. Reconnect us to one another and to you. Let peace reign over all the earth, through the Prince of Peace, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen In Christ the Word who has come to dwell with us, God has given us grace upon grace, forgiveness that is stronger than our sins, and love that can heal every broken heart. Hear this Word of God s pardon and peace: In the name of Jesus our Savior, you are free from all your sins. Rise, shine, for your light has come. Thanks be to God. Anthem 10:30 Will You Come and Follow Me arr. Tom Trenney New Dimension Singers The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Lesson Isaiah 61:1-3 The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me; he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lord s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display his glory. *** We welcome children to Dock Children s Education at this time.*** Ensure your child is wearing a nametag with name and grade level. See front of yellow bulletin insert for pickup locations. Anthem How Lovely Are the Messengers How lovely are the messengers that preach us the gospel of peace. To all the nations is gone forth the sound of their words. How lovely are the messengers that preach us the gospel of peace. Felix Mendelssohn St. Andrew s Choir Psalm 117 Read in unison Praise the Lord, all you nations! Extol him, all you peoples! For great is his steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord! 4

Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen Holy Gospel Luke 4:16-21 All (sung): Glory to you, O Lord. When Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went to the synagogue on the sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written: The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord s favor. And he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. Then he began to say to them, Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing. The Gospel of the Lord. All (sung): Praise to you, O Christ. Sermon Today! Pastor Sarah Breckenridge 6
