We gather in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen Confession and Forgiveness Let us come into the light of Christ, confessing our need for God s mercy. Silence is kept for reflection. Almighty God, We confess that we are often not at peace with others or with ourselves. We bring to you all that pulls us apart: discord in our families, violence in our world, and our own conflicted hearts. In your mercy, Lord, heal us. Reconnect us to one another and to you. Let peace reign over all the earth, through the Prince of Peace, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen In Christ the Word who has come to dwell with us, God has given us grace upon grace, forgiveness that is stronger than our sins, and love that can heal every broken heart. Hear this Word of God s pardon and peace: In the name of Jesus our Savior, you are free from all your sins. Rise, shine, for your light has come. Thanks be to God. 3

Anthem 9:00 Peace Flows Into Me Jake Runestad High School Choir Lesson Deuteronomy 8:1-3 This entire commandment that I command you today you must diligently observe, so that you may live and increase, and go in and occupy the land that the Lord promised on oath to your ancestors. Remember the long way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, in order to humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commandments. He humbled you by letting you hunger, then by feeding you with manna, with which neither you nor your ancestors were acquainted, in order to make you understand that one does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. *** We welcome children to Dock Children s Education at this time.*** Ensure your child is wearing a nametag with name and grade level. See front of yellow bulletin insert for pickup locations. Anthem Didn t My Lord Deliver Daniel arr. I set my foot on the gospel ship And the ship, it began to sail. It landed me over on Canaan s shore And I ll never come back any more. He delivered Daniel from the lion s den, Jonah from the belly of the whale, And the Hebrew children from the fiery furnace, And why not a-every man? Didn t my Lord deliver Daniel, And why not-a every man? Didn t my Lord deliver Daniel? Psalm 91:9-12 Read in unison Because you have made the Lord your refuge, the Most High your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, no scourge come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, so that you will not dash your foot against a stone. 5

He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen Holy Gospel Luke 4:1-13 All (sung): Glory to you, O Lord. Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing at all during those days, and when they were over, he was famished. The devil said to him, If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become a loaf of bread. Jesus answered him, It is written, One does not live by bread alone. Then the devil led him up and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And the devil said to him, To you I will give their glory and all this authority; for it has been given over to me, and I give it to anyone I please. If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours. Jesus answered him, It is written, Worship the Lord your God, and serve only him. Then the devil took him to Jerusalem, and placed him on the pinnacle of the temple, saying to him, If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, for it is written, He will command his angels concerning you, to protect you, and On their hands they will bear you up, so that you will not dash your foot against a stone. Jesus answered him, It is said, Do not put the Lord your God to the test. When the devil had finished every test, he departed from him until an opportune time. The Gospel of the Lord.
