Transcription:

I have been grateful to the viewers within the parish of the Power- Point, Setting a Place for the Nones. It was created by the Diocesan Office of Evangelization and Catechesis, based on a study commissioned in 2015 by St. Mary s Press, done by the Center for Applied Research at the apostolate at Georgetown U. It shares the story of 4 young adults who were raised as Catholics, but have left the Church. The reasons given represent the views of many in the study. The upshot is how are we going to change to help people, even as young as 10, feel at home and wanting to be in our worshipping communities. It comes down to caring and sharing. One of the leaders of the AA meetings that are held at the parish center and I talked about this. He said that is why AA works. It is a place for people to admit they have a problem and to have the support of the community to reach recovery. Once truly sober, the joy is so great that those who reach this step desire to be a shepherd for a newbie. Further, he boiled the problem of any kind of addiction to isolation, loneliness and lack of purpose. Makes sense, doesn t it? He offered that it is a breakdown of the family. He wondered why we have let the culture school our children. Is it because parents are kept busy with so many things? How does the Church help with this? This is where we need each other, the Church, the Body of Christ. We need to reach out to each other, especially the newcomer and the lapsed. Heartily welcoming one another, giving each other a reason to stay connected, in contact, letting those who we used to see know we miss them, celebrating each other s accomplishments. Can we do that? That is evangelization. Admitting our hurts, offenses, grievances, hopes, desires, joys, prayer requests and how God is working in our lives, that is testimony. Opportunities to gather outside of Mass for activities, meals, that is fellowship and where testimony takes place. It is where we, the Church, need to serve one another. Have you heard, You can t heal another until you heal yourself, first. What do you think? Don t we want to be the kind of Church where everyone is heard, loved and we are working together in concrete ways for the Glory of God? It s going to take all of us. Please let me hear from you! Introduction Israel was sustained throughout countless struggles by God s word revealed in the law. We Christians do not identify ourselves by the same criterion, but by a larger sense of law disclosed by Jesus, the living revelation of God. His ministry proclaimed a new law rooted in love that is lived out on behalf of others. A liberating law, it requires a searing focus and discipline by us as individuals and as a community. Providentially, the same Spirit that animated Jesus animates us. Jan 27th, 2019 The Third Sunday in Ordinary Time Reading I: Nehemiah 8:2-4, 5-6, 8-10 The scribe Ezra presents the book of the law. Reading II: I Corinthians 12:12-30 The Word of God shapes the Body of Christ and is manifest in the diverse charisms, gifts granted by God for the good of the community of believers. Gospel: Luke 1:1-4; 4:14-21 Luke addresses anyone who lets thim or herself be examined by the Word. Feb 3rd, 2019 Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Reading I: Jeremiah 1:4-5, 17-19 Reading II: I Corinthians 12:31-13:13 or 13:4-13 Gospel: Luke 4: 21-30 St. Patrick (StP) St. Michael (StM) St. Januarius (StJ) St. Theresa (StT)

The Abortion Expansion Act Act today! The Reproductive Health Act, is a bill coming to the NYS Legislature. It would allow non-doctors to perform abortions; abortions for any reason in the third trimester of pregnancy right up to a mother s due date; remove all criminal penalties for abortion, even if it was contrary to the mother s choice, such as the intentional targeting of an unborn child in an act of violence; and remove our state s protections for infants accidentally born alive in the course of an abortion. Gov. Cuomo and the Democratic leadership want this to pass! Be a voice for the voiceless. Go to the New York State Catholic Conference website at www.nyscatholic.org Click on Stop Abortion Expansion. Enter your home address information, then select Send Message. Your message will automatically be sent to your State Senator, State Assembly Representative and the Governor. Our legislators need to learn of our opposition to this bill before they vote on it, which could be anytime in the first 30 days of the session! While you are there, you can join the Catholic Action Network and receive occasional emails (no more than once a month) when issues like this come up which need our action by contacting our legislators.
