PAGE TWO YÜÉÅ à{x ctáàéüëá Wxá~ YÜÉÅ à{x ctáàéüëá Wxá~ Now that the Christmas season is over and we se le into the season of Ordinary Time for a couple of months, this is usually a me when we take a respite at the parish. What I mean is, a er the busyness of the previous season we typically do not schedule a whole lot of events right now (because before we know it, Ash Wednesday and the busy Lenten season will be here!) So, because things are a li le slower right now, I d like to take the opportunity to remind everyone of a few important things. First, don t forget that you can buy 2019 Hypod ckets at any me (Hypod stand for Help Your Parish Out of Debt). The ckets are $10, and every cket you buy is valid for every cash raffle drawing that takes place once a week, every week of the year. So, since we are near the beginning of 2019, you s ll have almost 50 chances to win with one cket (because even if your cket wins one week, it goes back into the pot for the future drawings). There is a weekly prize of $100, and on the last week of each month the prize is $500. You can get Hypod ckets any me at the rectory, or they are available in the pamphlet rack at the back of church. Also, don t forget that we have two other new ways to support St. Beatrice Parish. First, we now offer PayPal through our parish website, which gives you the opportunity to make dona ons to the parish online. You can even set up a recurring Sunday dona on so that you don t have to deal with wri ng a check or filling out an envelope each week. There is no cost to sign up and donate through PayPal. As I said, you can either do individual dona ons any me you want, or set up a recurring dona on (weekly, monthly, etc). To sign up, please go to www.stbeatriceparish.org/donate. Another easy way to help your parish is to Smile! If you ever shop online at Amazon.com (as many people do), I encourage you to do something just slightly different: go to AmazonSmile.com. AmazonSmile offers the same array of products as Amazon, but it is the charitable branch of the company. St. Beatrice Parish is registered as one of their approved chari es. So, the first me you go to AmazonSmile, simply search for and choose St. Beatrice as your preferred charity. A er that, there is nothing extra that you ever need to do, because from that point on, any me you buy things on AmazonSmile they will donate.5% of what you spent to our parish. It s an easy way to support St. Beatrice, because you just do what you would normally do anyway except you do it with a Smile! Finally, I want to make sure to point out that this coming Tuesday, Jan. 22 nd, is the Na onal Day of Prayer for the Legal Protec on of Unborn Children (since Jan. 22 nd marks the 46 th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abor on on demand). The other significant thing about Jan. 22 nd this year is that it marks the beginning of World Youth Day, when young people from around the world will gather in Panama City, Panama to celebrate and renew their faith, as they are joined by Pope Francis. So, two significant events on both the na onal and interna onal stages will take place on Jan. 22 nd, and these events remind us of the dignity of human life, the need for prayer, our responsibility of handing on the faith to future genera ons, and the importance of le ng people (especially young people) know that they are loved by God. I invite you to take a li le me out of your day this Tuesday to stop and pray for an end to abor on (which is something that only leads to despair), and also pray that our young people will always find hope in the God who wonderfully created them. St. Beatrice, pray for us. May God bless you. Fr. Rob

Second Sunday in Ordinary Time In the Gospel today, at the wedding feast in Cana, Jesus reveals himself to his disciples and they began to believe in him. Everyday, God also gives us signs of his love and so we also can respond in faith and trust. Your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul becomes a sign of God s love to those who are suffering and you give them reason to believe and trust. MUSIC MINISTRY If you are interested in joining St. Beatrice Adult Choir, or Children s Choir please Contact Richard Gersten, Music Director (708) 786-8630 or atenorsart@sbcglobal.net The Children s Choir: Karen Lima (Assistant Coordinator) Karen.ann.lima@gmail.com UtÑà áå Through the living waters of Baptism the following were welcomed into the People of God at St. Beatrice last week: Herminia Ville Raca Torres 111 child of Gabriel and Anna Torres (nee Raca) Rest in Peace It is a holy and wholesome thought that we pray for the dead, Please remember Bridget McKenna in your prayers. PAGE THREE READINGS FOR THE WEEK Monday: Heb 5:1-10; Ps 110:1-4; Mk 2:18-22 Tuesday: Heb 6:10-20; Ps 111:1-2, 4-5, 9, 10c; Mk 2:23-28, or any of a number of readings for the Day of Prayer Wednesday: Heb 7:1-3, 15-17; Ps 110:1-4; Mk 3:1-6 Thursday: Heb 7:25 8:6; Ps 40:7-10, 17; Mk 3:7-12 Friday: Acts 22:3-16 or 9:1-22; Ps 117:1bc, 2; Mk 16:15-18 Saturday: 2 Tm 1:1-8 or Ti 1:1-5; Ps 47:2-3, 6-9 or Ps 96:1-3, 7-8a, 10; Mk 3:20-21 Sunday: Neh 8:2-4a, 5-6, 8-10; Ps 19:8-10, 15; 1 Cor 12:12-30 [12-14, 27]; Lk 1:1-4; 4:14-21 TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The cause of church unity is commended to Christians for prayer and action every year around this time. This week is not so much to focus on the many divisions within the Christian family, but on bonds of faith and mission. Even though Christians have always shown an inclination to fracture, spin off, and mutate into new expressions, recent history shows some new points of convergence and agreement. Catholics are more firmly rooted in the word of God, for example, and many Protestants are more likely to celebrate Communion than in years past. Some denominations are merging and pooling resources, and people from various traditions are collaborating on projects. The call of this week is to be mindful of the diversity of our traditions and customs while treasuring what we hold in common. The old advice to lighten up is good medicine, because sometimes our differences are delightful and amusing. If someone says, Let us pray, a Catholic might close the eyes, bow the head and fold hands; a Protestant reach out and clasp hands with the person in the next chair; and someone belonging to an Orthodox tradition might stand up with eyes wide open. Each has taken a different path, but the goal is always the same. This is a week not for focusing on the wellworn paths of divergence, but for mutual delight in a common goal. James Field, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. If you would ever like to bring up the Gifts during Mass, please simply let the ushers know before Mass. Anyone is welcome to be a gift bearer.

The Holy Spirit loves us and comes to us in baptism. He is with us always and gives us gifts of kindness, love and peace. The Holy Spirit is symbolized by a white dove representing purity and peace. Sunday, February 3, 2019 Family Mass 12:00 Noon The 3 rd grade will read and bring up the gifts Saturday, February 9, 2019 Special Sacraments Class 9:00 11:00am Adult Confirmation Class 9:30am 12:00pm Reminder Don t forget to be working on your Mass Hours. 2 nd Grade We talked about forgiveness and how important it is in our friendship with Jesus. When we hurt one another, we hurt our friendship with them and Jesus. We can make amends for our sins in the sacrament of Reconciliation, where we confess our wrong doings to a priest who represents Jesus and forgives us in his name. We can then feel at peace and do our best to love and care or one another and to serve Jesus the best we can.
