Live Oak United Methodist Monthly Newsletter of Live Oak United Methodist July 2011 Pastoral Thought The Summer season at Live Oak began with a wonderful time of fellowship at Camp Istrouma where families and friends enjoyed a Sunday afternoon of fellowship and food. The children had fun on many levels, from the "Blob" to the zip line. Then Live Oak enjoyed 2 wonderful vacation Bible schools (youth, children/adult). Both schools enjoyed large crowds, wonderful teaching and great food. The month of June enjoyed the series of what it means to follow Jesus", and saw a number of people commit to Christ. What a way to begin the summer!!! We also experienced conferences which brought both challenge and concern. (And now), Our youth are taking off for church camp, in which they have worked toward all year long (remember the Banquet). We are now preparing for July, a time where we celebrate our Nation s birth and being a part of the greatest nation the world has ever known. My prayer is that we will not take our freedoms for granted, but we will strive to preserve them and honor them. m and honor them. Continued on page 3... Military Ministry (continued) Pastoral Thought Continued In the month of July we will be looking at the power or character in forming a nation, a family, a relationship. Character does count...it is the oil that keeps relationships from breaking down. So I hope you will join us in July as we enjoy a wonderful "Live Oak Summer". I hope to see you Sunday! Mark C. 3) Ballpoint pens are available for $5. each to help defer expenses for the Party. 4) Church bus leaves from front parking lot at 9 AM on Saturday, July 16th. Seating first come, first seated. Car pools may follow. ACTIVE Military Personnel receive our devotional The Upper Room with a letter of encouragement, as well as packages with items from soldiers wish list. Please provide names with military addresses clearly printed on cards provided at the table in the foyer along with your name and phone number. As soldiers addresses change, please contact us with those changes so postage is not wasted. To: Live Oak United Methodist Church You have touched my heart with your kindness Thanks to everyone who donated to victims in Alabama, a special thanks to Mrs. Peggy Langlois in the Thrift Shop and also to Willie Graves and Family, Jason Ard and Family. The trailer we brought down there was completely full and very much appreciated. Thanks to everyone, God is Good! Doug and Marie Simoneaux Dear Partner (LOUMC Youth): Your partnership is essential as we strive to spread the hope of Christ s love in the world s darkest places. Your gift of $1,593.00, received on May 20, 2011 is already hard at work providing your prayers and support for the children and families around the world. I am grateful for your generosity in these uncertain times. May God bless you for helping us provide both physical necessities and spiritual comfort to children and families in desperate need. Proverbs 11:25 (NIV) says, A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed. May your life in the coming year reflect the same joy, hope and happiness you're helping to bring to hurting children and families everywhere. Richard E. Stearns President of World Vision
