CHURCH NEWS AUGUST-SEPTEMBER 2018

life lyrics Our prayer is that you have been richly blessed as we engage with the Psalms. This book is the richest repository of theology, authenticity and brutal honesty in all Scripture. These words will shape us, redefine us, and help us to figure out how to live this side of Heaven. These words will aid us as we navigate the streets, find hope in the messiness of life - and in doing so, will teach us how to pray, how to praise God more richly and thank Him more authentically. The most valuable thing the Psalms do for me is to express the same delight in God which made David dance. As we continue to journey through the Psalms, our hope is that you are being changed. Would you let us know? Would you share your story with us? We would love to hear how this series has worked in your heart and mind as you grapple with these words of life. Also don t forget to visit stpauls.church/psalms so you can stay up-to-date with our bible studies, family devotions, and catch up on any sermons you might have missed. 1 C.S. GLOBAL OUTREACH The Bishop Family Rod, Abby, Kayla, Zac and Jayden Serving with International Teams From Rod: I am currently leading us through a rebuilding of our National Office staff team, looking to fill a number of key positions that I see are needed for there to be a stable foundation for ministry growth. I led our staff team to scour the scriptures and we have been clinging to some of the wonderful promises that God will hear our cries and provide - and we are seeing Him do just that! I have had a number of exciting conversations in the last few weeks with those whom I believe God is bringing to us to strengthen our team. Through all the demands of work, I have been particularly encouraged in the Psalms recently to seek God as my refuge - and He has certainly been that! Both high and low among men; find refuge in the shadow of your wings Psalm 36:7 From Abby: It s been quite a challenging last few months. At times it has felt like wave after wave of challenge and getting a breath of air has been difficult. In God s graciousness, he has caused me bunker down into his word to remember his promises of faithfulness and goodness. And then hearing from God to be patient in this season... Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. Psalm 27:14 God is good and has carried us through! We are seeing many answers to prayer (like the stressful last minute change to the Sydney RIDE venue/date being locked in and the joy to share at small groups to give opportunity for partnering with us). I am experiencing his peace that surpasses all understanding!!

Praise points: -That God is our rock and our fortress (Psalm 31:3) -For Him hearing our cries and raising up people for the National Office (Psalm 34:4) -For Him continuing to meet our financial needs as a family (Philippians 4:19) -For God providing in so many ways in the lead-up to RIDE in Aug/Sept (Philippians 4:19) -That Rod was used by God on Fiji mission as he journeyed with the young participants (Romans 1:11,12) Prayer points: -That we would love Jesus more than the world - with our eyes fixed on things above, not on earthly things (Colossians 3:1-4) -For wisdom for Rod as he leads International Teams through this rebuilding period (James 1:5) -That God might raise up new financial partners - we are currently at 90% of our support target (2 Corinthians 9:12) -For wisdom and provision to make RIDE successful in engaging God s people with the plight of refugees (James 1:5) To find out how you can partner with the Bishop Family please visit: iteams.org.au/bishopra

GEOFF DEUTSCHER Anglicare Minister ST JAMES CHAPEL ANGLICAN PARISH PARTNERSHIP NEWS The New St James Chapel is rapidly rising out of the ground and the building itself is due for completion around the end of September. Congregation members will wear TShirts with I go to St James printed on them and be on hand to serve those who come. The Chapel committee is working hard to make the most of the high level of interest right across the Castle Hill site in the new chapel. To that end we re planning a Come and See day which will be an opportunity for residents to come and wander through the building. We hope to have a jumping castle, (for the grand kids) BBQ (thanks Crewman) Devonshire teas, various music groups and tours of the facility with one of the St James congregation. Residents with be given a gift bag at the end of the tour with some treats, a gospel and info brochure on the chapel ministry. The St Paul s video Team will be working on some vox pops which will play throughout the day on the large screens in the chapel. Our prayer is that people who used to go to church who have stopped might join us, some who go to church outside the village might decide to join us and some far from God might find faith and hope.

LONG LOST FAMILY FOUND Did you know that the most common metaphor in the New Testament for the church is the family? We have been reconciled to our heavenly Father, we are called to view one another as brothers and sisters, and, as we saw in Colossians, household codes have been adopted to teach us to relate rightly to each other. However the modern church seems to have lost this understanding. We often attend services according to our age. We target ministries to particular genders or demographics. We want small groups that reflect our life stage. Rarely is the range and diversity of the middle-eastern household seen in our modern church, for while we might run ministries for all ages we seldom interact together. The Growing Faith brand started as a resource to equip families to disciple their children but has expanded over the last few years to equip the church family to do intergenerational discipleship. St Paul s is hosting the Growing Faith conference this year on September 15th. There will be training workshops helping us think through how we can mentor others, challenges to consider who we are investing in and electives imagining what it might look like if our church family served alongside and reached out to our community together. Go to the Growing Faith website for more info and to register. This opportunity is right on our doorstep; let s rediscover and realign with the biblical ideal of the church family discipling one another together! MATT KELLER Children s Minister

HOW DID OUR WEEK GO? Our catch phrase this year was 5 books. 5 days. 5 reasons to come With our wonderful week now passed here are our top 5 reasons for why it was truly Supa... 5 We had a wonderful group of 94 kids who had an absolute ball making friends, playing games, building things, laser tagging, scooter balling, crafting and cooking! 4 3 2 1 We had Lip Sync Battles, The Voice, Carpool Karaoke, Dance Battles and Supaweek s got Talent, and uncovered some absolute Supastars and were blown away each day by them! Worship time was next level with our teaching from the Psalms giving us such reason to PRAISE. We saw lots of kids come from our church, but were so happy that many kids came from our local community, and that these kids connected well with our phenomenal leaders and made new friends We spent time in the Bible each day and had kids asking for when the next bible or small group time as they were so excited to engage with the word.

On the Sunday morning after Supaweek at Kids Alive I did my usual welcome to new kids. Two of the hands that popped up belonged to familiar faces, because we had just spent the whole week of Supaweek with them. These kids had engaged in the word, in a community on camp and then connected back in on Sunday at church. It was one of those moments where you see ministry vision come to delightful fruition. I was filled with gratitude to God for how he moved during the week and for the exceptional leaders that tirelessly served, played, taught and led all week that made all this possible. Please continue to pray that all the children who attended would be challenged to seek out Jesus and would have opportunity in homes, churches and schools to live a life of faith in Jesus.
