Resurrection Lutheran Church Church Council October 18, 2016 Members present: Sue Hiersche, Steve Dougherty, Tom Lindberg, Jerry Sharpe, Diane Lafrenz, Lorraine Holte, Bonnie Nimz, Mike Petke, Scott Weinberger, Pastor Roger Fuchs, and Troy Lutz. Members absent: Sally Ritchie, Gordon Knott, and Leslie Sawyer. President Sue Hiersche called the meeting to order. Devotions were presented by Scott Weinberger. September minutes: A correction was made concerning the paragraph headed Security of Property. It was decided that Sue would talk to the local patrol officer, not Troy. A motion to accept the corrected minutes for the month of September was given by Steve Dougherty, and seconded by Lorraine Holte. The motion passed. Treasurer s Report: Tom Lindberg presented his Treasurer's report to council. September income was favorable by a total of $4,710.67. This increased Resurrection's general fund balance to $18,839.35. September total income plus transfers was $27,751.00 which was $6,603.00 less than the $34,354.00 average of June, July, and August. Diane Lafrenz made a motion to accept the September report, it was seconded by Lorraine Holte. The motion passed. Old Business: -Portland Police Trespass Enforcement Agreement Program: There was continued discussion about Resurrection entering into agreement with the Portland Police allowing them to enforce a no trespassing request on church property, especially the lower parking lot location after dark. After the discussion Diane Lafrenz made a motion to apply to join the Trespass Enforcement program. It was seconded by Tom Lindberg. The motion passed. Sue will follow-up with the application. New Business: -Review of By-law #21: By-law #21 defines what membership is at Resurrection Lutheran Church. It also deals with inactive members. The By-law was edited by the congregation care committee. Tom Lindberg made a motion to accept the 2
revised By-law. Bonnie Nimz seconded, the motion passed. The revised By-law will be presented for a vote by the congregation at the annual meeting in January 2017. -RLC Annual meeting: Council agreed on the date of January 22, 2017 for the annual congregation meeting. -Interim Pastoral Ministry Agreement: Council reviewed the letter of agreement for interim Pastoral Ministry. Discussion was had about vacation time, and transition pay. Steve Dougherty made a motion to accept the wording of the agreement as it was presented to council. Lorraine Holte seconded. The motion passed. -2017 Mission trip: Troy Lutz presented his plans for the youth mission trip in 2017. He is working with group called Youth Works. A group of RLCs high schoolers plan to travel to Idaho next summer. -2017 Bishop Convocation: Pastor Roger Fuchs is planning to attend the Convocation on October 24, 25, and 26th. Steve Dougherty made a motion to refer reimbursement for Pastor Roger to the RLC endowment committee. It was seconded by Diane Lafrenz. The motion passed. -RLC s 60 th Anniversary- April 2017: There was a brief discussion regarding future plans for a 60 th celebration next year. No definite conclusions resulted. -2017 Budget: Tom Lindberg will follow up to committees to request 2017 budget requests be submitted to him by November 6, 2017. -Front rental property: There was a brief discussion regarding future plans for the front rental plans. No conclusions were forth coming but it was decided to begin discussions. -2017 Council: There was a discussion to review which members would be going off Council in February. It is understood Sally Ritchie, Leslie Sawyer and Gordon Knott would not be on the Council in 2017. There are 8 people who have volunteered to serve on Council. -A motion to adjourn was made by Jerry Sharpe. It was seconded by Lorraine Holte. Post Note: -On 10/20/16, President Sue Hiersche sent an email to Council Members asking for a vote on two issues: -Interim Pastor Ministry Agreement: A motion was made to remove the added paragraph on the agreement limiting the amount of vacation pay that can be carried forward each quarter. The vote was: Yes=8, No=1, Abstain=3 -Wonderful Wednesday: A motion was made to suspend the WW meal and kid activities from November 30-January 10, 2017. The vote was: Yes=9, Abstain=3 WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY: Wonderful Wed will be taking a break during Advent. The last week will be Nov 23 rd, which is our Thanksgiving dinner and pie potluck. WW will resume January 11, so if you re on the schedule for the weeks in-between congratulations! You are off the hook! We will also take off for Lent, which begins on March 1 st. That means the last week of WW for that segment will be February 22 nd. It will be decided at a later date whether or not we will resume after Easter. ALL OF THE REST OF THE SCHEDULE REMAINS UNCHANGED, so if you re listed on the schedule to serve during the segments of Wonderful Wednesday (NOT during Advent or Lent) those will remain the same. So please keep your schedule, you will need it. 4

Resurrection Lutheran Church Community Ministry Team November 3, 2016 Call to order: Ward Those present: Ward Spradlin, Jerry Sharpe, Keith Kunerth, Pastor Roger Fuchs, Scott Weinberger and Orpha Neils Minutes: Orpha: Minutes approved with the correction of Kari Jubb and not Judd. Council Rep: Scott: There is a concern about security and are looking into it. The 60th anniversary is next spring on April 13th. They are looking into it. Leslie Sawyer, Sally Ritchie and Gordon Knott are going off council but there are others willing to sign up as candidates. ONW: Roger: Good work with mental health specialist. Grant money has helped. Annual Night Feast with auction will be held on November 11th.The race for New City Initiative was held on Sunday, October 30 th and some money was donated for the cause. Pastor Roger attended the Oregon Synod Convocation along with other pastors. The endowment fund covered the expenses Zarephath Kitchen: Orpha: We served 160 people with 35 having seconds. Wally LaFrenz came and helped for the first time. Million Meals: Ward: The results will be coming in the future. Habitat for Humanity: Keith: The dedication for the build on 165th St. will be held on Saturday, November 5th at 1200 although it is not completed. It should be done by Christmas. Helen's View on Killingsworth will be dedicated on Saturday, December 10th at 1200. If you donate $10 or more to Habitat today they will match the amount and you can entry a drawing for 4 Blazer tickets. International Habitat has been in 70 countries since 1976 and has helped 6.8 million people. Habitat is in all 50 states and in 10 Canadian Provinces. 10% given to Habitat goes to the International. Old Business: Veteran's Sunday is on November 13th at 1030. Dixie Antle is in charge of what happens in the fellowship hall. Pastor Roger will preach. 6
Halloween Party: Jerry: It went well with about 80 kids and 40 adults attending... There was a cake walk, games, trick or treating, haunted house. Thanks to Thrivent for $250 for supplies. Operation Christmas Child: Jerry: 100 boxes were taken and to be dedicated on November 20th. There will be a dinner for postage on March 11th with players entertaining us and youth serving us. Fair Trade Coffee: It involves buying the coffee, storing it and bringing it out on the 1st Sunday of the month. We need new volunteers. Hurricane Matthew: Roger: The need was announced. Some donated money directly by mail and some put some in the offering plate. Thank you. New Business: MOM: ONW: Roger will get information out and be in charge. Prioritizing Mission Giving: Tom Lindberg has requested that we prioritize our missions as more giving is anticipated and some may be given to missions according to ranking. Resurrection Lutheran Church The Players November 4, 2016. Attendants: Heidi Barz, Linda Highman, Ray Schmitz, and Jerry Sharpe 1. Ray and Jeffery Wood will arrange to get together so that Jeffery can inform Ray how to deal with our web site. 2. Linda showed the informational piece for the New Year s Eve Party, and everyone made suggestions to improve it. The revised piece is attached. This will be e- mailed to churches that Linda contacts first with a phone call. She is using the church listing found in the Mid-County Memo and feels that there must be at least three other churches joining in this venture to make the whole notion a go. 3. The idea of chancel drama has the enthusiastic support of Troy. Jerry brought several script books that we looked at. We decided on using The State Versus The King of the Jews by Curt M. Joseph. Jerry will look into ordering this for use during Lenten season. If we do one every two weeks, and there are six, we would be performing during the months of March and April. 4. Next meeting on Friday, December 2 at 7 PM, Luther Lodge: New Year s Eve Party and rehearsal schedule for OCC fundraiser in March and chancel dramas in March and April. 8
Resurrection Lutheran Church Worship Ministry Team November 2016 Attending: Pastor Roger, Bill Lambert, Joyce Gibson, Kim Dougherty, Katie Petke and Troy Lutz. Pastor Roger opened with prayer. Business: Banners: The new banners and altar frontals were shown. Dowels have now been purchased for hanging them, and a free banner was sent in addition to what we ordered. It will be used at the Citizenship Sunday (Veteran s Day) service. All were purchased with funds from the Frances Tong memorial monies. Announcements: The number of announcement slides has now been reduced. Christmas: The Quempas Carol was discussed, several names were discussed as possible singers. Katie will approach them to see if they re available and interested. We will discuss it again at the December meeting and decide if we have the singers to pull it off well, otherwise it will be canceled for this year. Todd will need to be trained on how to do the organ part, choir will need to be stronger leaders for their part and the congregational part if we do it. Attendance: Attendance is up! Bill read off the attendance numbers from the last 4 weeks and the numbers have been steadily climbing, especially at the late service. People have noticed a change in attitude, too, members seem to be happy and enthusiastic. Reformation: The Reformation service was discussed, we were pleased with the special music and the lovely variety in the service. The overall feeling of the service was wonderful. All Saints: Candles were ordered for the memorials, should arrive Thursday. Roger shared the order of service, it was discussed and approved. We agreed that we should flip-flop Communion and the sermon at the early service this week so that the memorial candles don t have to burn so long. 9
Citizenship Sunday: We went through the order of service for this single-service event. A few adjustments were made, there is much enthusiasm for this special event! Thanksgiving service: The Thanksgiving service will be at 7pm on Wednesday, Nov 23, right after our annual Thanksgiving dinner. Pie potluck will follow the service. We need to remember to set up the Advent wreath after the service so that it s in place for the following Sunday, which is the first Sunday in Advent. Advent Decorating: It was decided that we will assemble the new Christmas tree after church ahead of time so it s in place before the decorating, which will be Nov 27 th at 6pm. Dinner included. Wonderful Wednesday: We will be taking a break during Advent, next WW session will be Jan 11 th through Feb 22. We will break again for Lent, it will decided later if we resume after Easter.
