How to use this journal Hello! I m so glad you ve decided to join me in going deeper in God s Word this month. My hope is that as we study these scriptures together, we will cultivate hearts of thanksgiving in us and in our families. Many years ago, when I was mourning the loss of my father, my mother-in-love, Bonnie, introduced me to a Thanksgiving Journal. She shared with me how journaling had become a lifestyle for her, and that writing down what she was grateful for brought her through some of her toughest moments. I began my first Thanksgiving Journal after that conversation. That was nearly 15 years ago. When moving into our new home 4 years ago I found that first journal I started. As I looked back through it, I was reminded of how far God has brought me over the years. What a powerful testimony that was for me! Reading those entries not only built my faith, but reminded me of God s faithfulness and provision.
Maybe you need some encouragement today. (Don t we all?) When we begin to thank God we enter into His gates. We gain access to His joy, His peace, His provision. Our circumstances may not change right away. Yet the more we spend time thanking Him and praising His name, our perspectives begin to change opening our hearts for God to do amazing things. To get you started, I ve shared how my family will be using this journal. My family and I are going through this journal and writing down the many reasons we have to be thankful. We are using it every day for the month of November. Each Thursday night we have family time and will be discussing what we ve been writing about. I ve laid out my schedule for you, in case you (like me) need a guide to follow! Each day we will be focusing on a different area that we will choose to be thankful for. Being thankful is a choice. If you are struggling to find something to be thankful in for one of these areas, start small. In one of my entries I had one simple sentence: Thank God that I have breath in my lungs today. That was it. But each week after that I progressively had more things to write. I think the same will happen for you. You ll be surprised in a few months by how much God has done when you look back over your list!

No one will see this but you and God. Pour out your heart before Him and let Him heal the areas that need mending. * Come with expectation! Expect God to show up and move mountains!
