Training for Eternity VENICE CHRISTIAN SCH OOL October 13, 2016 The Lion s Roar Dates to Remember Thursday, Oct. 13th FFI Meeting TONIGHT - page 2 - Friday, Oct. 14th Jeans Day Fundraiser - page 5 - Tuesday, Oct. 18th AR Shopping Day - page 2 - Weds./Thurs., Oct. 19th/20th Cross Country Schedule - page 6 - Thursday, Oct. 20th End of 1st Quarter Friday, Oct. 21st PROFESSIONAL DAY NO SCHOOL GRADES K-12 Friday, Oct. 28th VICTORY RUN NOON DISMISSAL NO AFTERCARE Brokenness and Humility We certainly look to our Lord as the greatest example of humility. Psalm 25:4-7 4 Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. 5 Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day. 6 Remember, O Lord, Your tender mercies and Your lovingkindnesses, For they are from of old. 7 Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; According to Your mercy remember me, For Your goodness sake, O Lord. The psalmist's prayer is one which acknowledges a reliance and dependence on a loving God. This humility is foreign to a world which is self-reliant and self-absorbed. Confession of sin and a contrite heart serve the Christian well in the pursuit of a satisfying life. Be blessed, Jerry Frimmel Principal

For this event, we will be having a Classroom Open House instead of a formal sit down meeting. This will eliminate the need for childcare; therefore, childcare will not be provided. DONATIONS WILL BE TAKEN FOR DINNER. $1 PER SLICE OF PIZZA SUGGESTED. AR SHOPPING DAY! Tuesday, October, 18th is our first AR Shopping Day! Our school encourages reading with the Accelerated Reader (AR) program. Students read books, take quizzes and earn points based on their comprehension level of the book. AR points are then used as currency to buy items in the AR Store, held twice a year. The students are doing a fantastic job of reading and AR points are soaring! Many students have 100 or more points! Thank you to our families who have donated items to be used in our AR Store next week. Our students will be thrilled when they walk into the library and see all of these treasures! This event is a great opportunity to earn volunteer service hours! Please contact Mrs. Alkema at MelanieAlkema@VeniceChristianSchool.org. if you are interested in helping in the library. 2

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD Now through the end of October, our students will be collecting items to fill shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. Operation Christmas Child is a project of the international relief organization, Samaritan s Purse. Their mission is to provide local partners around the world with shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies as a means of reaching out to children in their own communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ. We ship these simple gifts outside the United States to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S. (https://samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/frequently-asked-questions/) Mrs. Hill, our 2nd grade teacher, is coordinating this school-wide effort along with her 2nd grade students. The 2nd graders had a great time assembling all of the boxes and seeing the stack grow taller and taller! After assembly, their job was to distribute boxes to each classroom on campus. They are so excited to be in charge of this project! We are asking all students who are able, to bring in small items to include in the boxes. These items can be anything from toys to toothbrushes. We have extra shoeboxes in the front office for any families who are interested in filling the boxes as a family activity. Each box includes information and ideas on what to pack. 4
