FEB 6, 2018 THE CHURCH VISITOR Back At It! This past week, I hope some of you missed my articles. Last Wednesday, as Alan and Linda came into choir, Linda asked me a profound question. She asked, Why didn t you write them by hand? What a great question, and I admitted to her that I didn t even think of it!. I am certainly a creature of habit, and I so rarely write things by hand it didn t even occur to me as an option. If I do write things by hand, often it takes a hieroglyphics specialist to translate what I have written into a readable language again. That s right, I never received good grades for penmanship. Now that I think about it, I probably should have just dictated it to Laura. It s a new week, and my computer seems to be functioning well, so, I Am Back! I thought I would start by giving you a f e w u p d a t e s. T h e C W F Wo m e n s Conference (formerly known as the CWF Women s Retreat) was a success, and thanks to Rev. Linda for sharing her thoughts on journaling with women from our church, as well as other churches in the area. Experiencing God is starting this coming Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in the Gathering Area. If you plan on attending, please let Pastor Paul know so he can get workbooks ordered. New screens for the Sanctuary will arrive some time next week and, hopefully, will be installed shortly thereafter. The east entrance of the church has had the tile removed, as it was coming up anyway, and carpeting is being installed soon. The Valentine Banquet is on Saturday, February 17, at 5:30 p.m. Despite all that is happening, I hope all of us are focused on and getting ready for Lent. It begins on February 14 th with our Ash Wednesday Service. Worship already has devotionals ready for distribution to provide daily reminders of what Christ did for us. The choir is planning for a cantata and other special music throughout this Holy season. I always encourage a heart of sacrifice for what we want and a recommitment of our time, talent, and treasure to God s work as we journey to Calvary together. How will this Lenten season be different from past ones is determined by the actions we take as individuals and as a Body. Let this be a season that we give of ourselves in meaningful ways for the good of others. 3908 Ruth Road Richland Hills, TX 76118 (817)284-8679 Senior Pastor: Paul Klaus Website: www.rhccdoc.com E-mail: info.rhcc@gmail.com

Nouwen is my guiding theologian, a man who lives out a Theology of the Heart. In Nouwen s book Life of the Beloved: Spiritual Living in a Secular World, he speaks to our lack of understanding that we are God s chosen Beloved: We are God s chosen ones, even when our world does not choose us. How do we get in touch with our chosenness when are surrounded by rejections? First of all, you have to keep unmasking the world about you for what it is: manipulative, controlling, power-hungry, and in the long run, potentially destructive. The world tells you many lies about who you are, and you simply have to be realistic enough to remind yourself of this. Every time you feel hurt or rejected, say to yourself: These feelings are not telling me the truth about myself. The truth is that I am the chosen child of God, precious in God s eyes, called the Beloved from all eternity, and held in an everlasting embrace. Second, keep looking for people and places where your truth is spoken, and where you are reminded of your deepest identity as a chosen one. And third, celebrate your chosenness constantly. This means saying Thank You, God, for choosing me, and Thank You to all those who remind you of your chosenness When we keep claiming the light, we will find ourselves becoming more and more radiant. (58-63) Blessings, Linda Barnette

Quote from: The Principle of the Path by Andy Stanley So pay careful attention to what you are paying attention to. Pay attention to the things that are competing for your attention. Pause before devoting your attention to anything. And devote special attention to those things that deserve your attention. For as Jesus said, your eye is the lamp of your entire body. And if your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Quote from: Don t Waste Your Life by John Piper If you are not yet a Christian, you are not your own. Christ has bought you at the price of his own death. You now belong doubly to God: He made you, and he bought you. That means your life is not your own. It is God s. Therefore, the Bible says, Glorify God in your body. God made you for this. He bought you for this. This is the meaning of your life. Easter Lily Order Form It s time to order Easter lilies! CWF Women s Conference a Success! Simply send Pastor Paul an email with what you have found interesting or insightful and it may get published in the newsletter. It also may inspire someone to checkout what you have found.
