This past week our new church sign was erected by some of the church s men. Also, a cross was installed on the front of the church. It is a wooden cross made out of American Chestnut wood that is over 180 years old. We appreciate and praise the Lord for the skill God has given to the men in our church assembly. for the discerning The State of the Union Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge. Hebrews 13:4 As a nation, community, church, or family drifts away from God, their definition of sin gets pushed back. In America, sin has become commonplace, especially sexual sin. National morality is degraded to the point where much of what God identifies as sexual sin is socially tolerated, if not yet fully accepted. We publicize in sex offender registries those who have committed sex crimes marked as extreme. Many even condemn them as unforgivable. Rape and pedophilia are examples of terrible sins, but what other conduct has God himself condemned as worthy of judgment? How about premarital sex? Divorce and remarriage? Obscene entertainment? Marriage of believers to unbelievers? Homosexuality? Each of these is clearly identified as sin in the Bible. Anyone guilty of these actions would be in danger of judgment...on God s own sex offender registry: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge. Both the adulterer and the one who profits from sexual sin are identified as offenders who will be judged. Adulterers are they who engage in sexual activity outside of marriage. Jesus defined marriage as a man shall cleave to his wife: and they twain (two) shall be one flesh (Matthew 19:5). Whoremongers are those who derive profit from sexual activity. The word whore can be traced back to Greek pornos from which we get the word pornography. The suffix -monger is Old English for merchant, trader, or broker. Thus a whoremonger is one who makes merchandise out of sexual sin. Where there is a market there will be merchants. When God s Word is cast aside, all manner of perversion is normalized. Christian, are you faithful to proclaim God s Words? Are you telling others how to be saved so that they can be free from bondage to sexual sin? Or are you part of that market? -Brad Baldwin 2 Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage forever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart. Psalm 119:111 3
