Come, let us raise our voices high and form a sacred song to God who rules the earth and sky, and does our days prolong. Awake, my soft and tuneful harp, awake, each charming string. Before the rosy dawn of day, to you, My God, I ll sing. Then let us in God s name sing on and hasten that great day when our Redeemer shall come down, and shadows pass away. Awake, My Heart 2006 by GIA Publications, Inc. Reproduced with permission under CCLI license #2849146. Worship services with music are streamed on the church website with permission under CCLI license #CSPL066342. WELCOME, GUESTS! We are honored to worship God with you today. You may find information about the church in the lobby/concourse. If you would like to become a member of Fernwood Baptist Church, you are invited to speak with a minister during the Hymn of Response or following the worship service. If you need pastoral care, please call 864-582-7467. Music Notes: Three hymns in today s service have roots in our area. The prelude, arranged by Bob Powell in Greenville, SC, is based on the early American melody LEANDER. Our anthem, Awake, My Heart, is based on the tune PISGAH (think National Forest). The hymn, We Are Travelers on a Journey, is based on the tune BEACH SPRING. All three of these tunes can be found in Southern Harmony, an early American hymnal compiled by William Walker and published in Spartanburg in 1854. Walker is buried in the Magnolia Street Cemetery next to the depot. Celebration! Sunday, July 17 This year the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF) celebrates the 25th anniversary of its organization. On Sunday, July 17th, South Carolina State Coordinator Jay Kieve will lead us in worship. Following the worship service, you are invited to a light FREE lunch and update from Jay on how far we have come, both in South Carolina as well as globally; and dreams for the future. We hope that you make plans to attend. Sign-up sheet is located in on the bulletin board in the concourse
Opportunities for Service at Fernwood We have some service opportunities in our children s department for next year that require our collective action. The most pressing need at the moment is a second teacher for our younger children (grades 1-3). This person would alternate months teaching the lessons; therefore, I need someone who will be willing to teach every other month. You may team with someone to do this job. We also have a need for a teacher of our preschoolers and a second person to stay with the babies. In addition we have a need for six (6) people to help in Extended Session so that we can maintain our 7 group rotation. If you are willing to help in any of these roles for any period of time, please let me know soon. Thanks, Clarence Batts There is yet another opportunity which requires only a small amount of time and limited training. Would you be willing to answer the phone in the office when Angie in on vacation or when the staff have important meetings which require them to be away from the office? If so, please let Angie know and your name will be added to a list of volunteers who will provide these duties. Special Request: We are in desperate need of a member who is willing to come and take all of the recycling of paper to the Recycling Center. They are all running over and need some attention. There is a container located beside the office door along with a cardboard box and there is also a container located near the copy machine in the church office. If you are willing to help, please call Angie in the church office and we can help you get it loaded in your vehicle.
