Choral Vespers February 27, 2014 Fivefifteen in the evening Keeping the heart of the University listening to the heart of God Gathering Organ Prelude *Introit Thanksgiving for Light Paul Weber We give you thanks, O God, for in the beginning you called light into being, and you set lights in the sky to govern night and day. In a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night you led your people into freedom. Enlighten our darkness by the light of your Christ; may your Word be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path; for you are merciful, and you love your whole creation, and with all your creatures we glorify you, through your Son, Jesus Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen. *Processional Hymn (see hymn insert) O Light Whose Splendor Thrills *Opening Sentence Leader: Light and peace in Jesus Christ our Lord. st. clement *Collect for Light Almighty God, we give you thanks for surrounding us, as daylight fades, with the brightness of your vesper light; and we implore you of your great mercy, that as you enfold us with the radiance of this light, so you would shine into our hearts the brightness of your Holy Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Old Testament Lesson Deuteronomy 30:1520 (OT page 179 of the pew Bible)
