John Yates Minister of Education Basic Training Class Basic Training class begins THIS Sunday morning at 8:45 a.m. in room B-110 (Gateway Kids wing). The class lasts seven weeks, concluding on March 3. Basic Training meets three Sunday mornings during Sunday School time, plus every Sunday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. I also ask students to participate in our weekly teacher s meetings on Wednesday nights at 6:15 p.m. Basic Training is our class for potential Sunday School Teachers and Class Coordinators. Students learn the basics of leadership, good Sunday School work, Bible study techniques, and lesson preparation. The class is rather jam-packed, including one or two sessions per week, homework, and even a student teaching experience. If you have an interest in learning to teach the Bible or lead a Sunday School class some time in the future, Basic Training is the class for you. If you are already serving as a Teacher or Class Coordinator but have never taken Basic Training, you are welcome, too. I want to thank those who participated in CONNECT Sunday afternoon, along with the College & Career students who took part in REACH. Jesus commands us to reach out to lost people and to make disciples. That must be a priority in the lives of all true believers. I hope you will come get involved in spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ this Sunday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. A commitment for the new year This time of year many people make resolutions or commitments to lose weight, exercise more, or somehow change their life for the better. The most important commitment I can imagine for a Christian is to read the Bible every day. How much time do you spend reading your Bible? The Bible is God s Word, which provides spiritual nourishment for God s children. To neglect Bible reading is more foolish than to neglect food. I urge you to make a commitment to read the Bible every day in 2019. You will find a Daily Bible Reading Guide on pages 4-5 of your Sunday School Member Quarterly. Our Youth will continue with regular schedules on Wednesday night, learning by concentrating on prayer life and telling the Gospel story including telling our Story of grace. As we kick off these lessons we will examine the Gospel or the Good News of Jesus Christ.
