PRE-MILLENNIAL EVENTS End Times Bible Study Pt. 9 October 15, 2017 Dr. Ken Baugh IDT Ministries I. THE CHRONOLOGY OF LAST DAYS EVENTS Diagram 1 II. THE 75-DAY INTERVAL From the time that the daily sacrifice is abolished and the abomination that causes desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days. Blessed is the one who waits for and reaches the end of the 1,335 days. As for you, go your way till the end. You will rest, and then at the end of the days you will rise to receive your allotted inheritance. Dan. 12:11-13 Diagram 2 1
IMPORTANT NUMBERS IN DANIEL 12:11-13 1. The number 1,260: Remember: A Prophetic Year is based on the Lunar Calendar and is 360 days. Our calendar is based on the Solar Calendar, that s why we have 365 days per year. 2. The number 1,290: From the time that the daily sacrifice is abolished and the abomination that causes desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days. Dan. 12:11 3. The number 1,335: Blessed is the one who waits for and reaches the end of the 1,335 days. Dan. 12:12 What is going to take place during this 75-day period? III. THE EVENTS DURING THE 75-DAY INTERVAL 1. The judgement and reward of all living. (See Matt. 25:31-46 & Joel 3:1-3) Jesus talked about this judgement as the separation of the sheep from the goats: When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. Then the King will say to those on his right, Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 2
Then he will say to those on his left, Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. (41) Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life. Matt. 25:31-46 2. The judgement and reward of all living. (See Matt. 25:1-30) I will bring you from the nations and gather you from the countries where you have been scattered with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm and with outpoured wrath. I will bring you into the desert of the nations and there, face to face, I will execute judgment upon you. As I judged your fathers in the desert of the land of Egypt, so I will judge you, declares the Sovereign LORD. I will take note of you as you pass under my rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant. I will purge you of those who revolt and rebel against me. Although I will bring them out of the land where they are living, yet they will not enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the LORD. Ezek. 20:34-38 3. The resurrection and reward of all Tribulation believers. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. Rev. 20:4-5 3. The resurrection and reward of all believers. As for you, go your way till the end. You will rest, and then at the end of the days you will rise to receive your allotted inheritance. Dan. 12:11-13 3
Diagram 3 Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake; some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. Dan. 12:2 And [at that time] many [of your people] shall awake or be separated out from among the sleepers in the earth s dust. These who awake shall be unto life everlasting, but those [the rest of the sleepers who do not awake at this time] shall be unto shame and contempt everlasting. -Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum: The Footsteps of the Messiah, 368-69. QUESTION Where have all these dead Old Testament believers been all these years and where are the dead unbelievers today? 4
PLACES OF THE DEAD SHEOL Hebrew Word, only found in Old Testament used 64 times. Both the righteous and unrighteous are there. The Righteous: Ps. 16:10, Jonah 2:2, 89:48, Gen. 37:35; 42:38; 44:29 & 31, Job. 14:13. The Unrighteous: Num. 16:30 & 33; Job 24:19; Ps. 9:17; 49:14 and Ezek. 32:21. Think of Sheol as the place of the dead composed of 2 Chambers. Jesus referred to these two chambers in Luke 16. HADES Greek word used 10 times in the New Testament (Matt. 11:23, 16:18, Lk. 10:15; 16:23, Acts 2:27 quoting Ps. 16:10, Acts 2:31, Rev. 1:18; 20:13 & 20:14). ABADDON Means Destruction in Hebrew. Hades and Sheol are the same place. OT: Job 26:6, 28:22, 31:12; Ps. 88:11; Prov. 15:11, 27:20. NT: Rev. 9:11 The Angel of the Abyss THE PIT Reference used in the OT to describe the unseen world. Used 23 times in Job, Prov., Isa. and Ezek. Always used in the negative and is synonymous with ABADDON. THE ABYSS Greek word that means: The Netherworld or bottomless. Only found in NT. Used 9 times, 7 are in Rev. (Rev. 9:1, 9:2, 9:11, 11:7, 17:8, 20:1 and Lk. 8:31 & Rom. 10:7). TARTARUS Found ONLY in 2 Pet. 2:4: For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell (tartaroō), putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment 2 Pet. 2:4 5
It seems like TARTARUS is another chamber of Sheol/Hades reserved only for the Fallen Angels during Noah s time (see Gen. 6:4). These are the same angels referred to in Jude 6-7 and most likely the very same Angels referred to as the sons of God in Gen. 6:4 who intermarried with human women in an attempt to corrupt the seed of the woman. It seems like Fallen Angels go to the ABYSS for temporary periods of time, but these Fallen Angles from Noah s time are locked up permanently until they are cast forever into the Lake of Fire. HELL English word that does not have a Greek or Hebrew equivalent. It is a general word used in our English Bibles that refers to the chamber of Sheol/Hades where the unrighteous dead are waiting. You could say that Hell is synonymous with Sheol & Hades. GEHENNA 12 References in the Bible, ONLY in the New Testament and mostly used by Jesus in the Gospels (Matt. 5:22, 5:29 & 30, 10:28; 18:9; 23:15; 23:33; Mark 9:43, 45 & 47; Luke 12:5 and James 3:6) Basically, Gehenna refers to the Valley of Hinnom just outside of Jerusalem where some of evil Kings of Israel offered child sacrifices to the pagan gods (2 Chron. 28:3; 33:6; Jer. 7:31; 19:2-6). It was a dumb where the Jews burned their trash and as such, it was a place of constant burning and smoke with a putrid smell. The Gehenna Valley was thus a place of burning sewage, burning flesh, and garbage. Maggots and worms crawled through the waste, and the smoke smelled strong and sickening (Isaiah 30:33). It was a place utterly filthy, disgusting and repulsive to the nose and eyes. Gehenna presented such a vivid image that Christ used it as a symbolic depiction of hell: a place of eternal torment and constant uncleanness, where the fires never ceased burning and the worms never stopped crawling (Matthew 10:28; Mark 9:47 48). https://www.gotquestions.org/gehenna.html Gehenna and the Lake of Fire are the same place the final stop for all unbelievers, Satan and his fallen angels for all eternity. 6
Diagram 4 ABRAHAM S BOSOM Used only once in Luke 16:22: The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham s side. Lk. 16:22 Abraham s Bosom is a figure of speech that describes a guest reclining at the dinner table of his host similar to how John was resting on Jesus breast at the last supper. It s a picture of blessing and close friendship. PARADISE Greek word that means: a royal park or a garden. 7
Used 3 times in the New Testament ONLY (Lk. 23:43 thief on the cross; 2 Cor. 12:4 the place where Paul was caught up in his vision, and Rev. 2:7 that speaks of the place where the future Tree of Life will be located. HEAVEN First Heaven: Sky/Atmosphere where birds fly (Gen. 1:20, 26; Jer. 4:25, Hag. 1:10; Matt. 8:20, 13:32 and Acts 10:12, 14:17) Second Heaven: Space where sun, moon and stars are located (Gen. 1:14-18, 22:17, 26:4, Matt. 24:29, Heb. 11:12, Rev. 6:13) Third Heaven: Unseen world where God dwells and where all the righteous currently resides. PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER When Jesus died, according to His own words in Matthew 12:40 and the words of the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 4:8-10 Jesus spirit descended into the Righteous part of Sheol/Hades that we know as Abraham s Bosom or Paradise (same place). For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. Matt. 12:40 But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. 8 This is why it says: When he ascended on high, he led captives in his train and gave gifts to men. 9 (What does he ascended mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions? 10 He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe. ) Eph. 4:8-10 But while He was there, 1 Peter 3:18-19 tells us that Jesus preached to those who were in the unrighteous part of Sheol. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, 19 through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison 20 who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. 1 Pet. 3:18-19 We know, according to Luke 16:26 that a great chasm separated these two departments but that people could converse with one another. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us. LK. 16:26 According to 2 Cor. 12:1-4, Paradise/Abraham s Bosom are now in the third Heaven with God. 8
I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know God knows. 3 And I know that this man whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows 4 was caught up to paradise. He heard inexpressible things, things that man is not permitted to tell. 2 Cor. 12:2-4 Diagram 5 IV. GUIDELINES FOR FAITHFUL LIVING Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction Gal. 6:7 9
