Continued on page 3 Announcements: Nancy Iffrig(1931-2019) Nov 9, 1931 - Jan 2, 2019 Nancy Iffrig, age 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 2, 2019. She was born November 9, 1931, in Pasadena, the daughter of Frederick and Jessie Gloege. She is survived by her two sons Kurt and Eric (Tamara) and grandson Aaron. Nancy attended Pasadena City College, where she joined the Aeolians, a group that has remained close to this day. This is also where she met her future husband Paul Iffrig. Nancy continued her education at the University of Oregon. While attending the university she joined the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She never lost touch with her sorority sisters. While Nancy was at U of O, Paul was attending UCLA. It was through a group he belonged to called the Acacia Group that Nancy's gourmet cooking skills began to shine. This tight knit group would go on to create the Food Club, which hosted monthly gourmet dinners. When asked about their proudest achievement they answered "Not one divorce in the bunch.". The group met for over 50 years and were even featured in the L.A. Times Food Section. Nancy's creative skills were not limited to cooking. She ran a craft business, selling items at local boutiques that she and Paul hand-crafted. Both Nancy and Paul loved to travel abroad, mostly in Europe. They were long time members of the Oneonta Church in South Pasadena. After Paul's passing Nancy did volunteer work with the Women's Committee of the Pasadena Symphony. Nancy will be missed by many and remembered for her kindness and humor. At Nancy's request there will be no formal memorial service. Her immediate family will have a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice. Please sign the guestbook at legacy.com/obituaries/ pasadenastarnews. Published in Pasadena Star-News on Jan. 15, 2019-2- -11-

But they saw him in the distance, and before he reached them, they plotted to kill him. Here comes that dreamer! they said to each other. Come now, let s kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns and say that a ferocious animal devoured him. Then we ll see what comes of his dreams. Reader: This is the word of the Lord. Response: Thanks be to God. Today s Message - Joseph: When Your Dreams Get High-Jacked Offertory - Out of the deep have I called unto thee Robert L. Bedell Out of the deep have I called unto thee, O Lord, hear thou my prayer. O let thine ears consider well the voice of my complaint. If thou wilt be extreme, to mark what is done amiss, O Lord, who may abide it? For there is mercy with thee, therefore shalt thou be feared. I look for the Lord, my soul doth wait for him, in his word is my trust. My soul flee-eth unto the Lord, before the morning watch. Israel, O Israel, trust in the Lord, for with him there is mercy, and plenteous redemption. And he shall redeem thee from all thy sins. Amen. -3-

Continued from the cover All joking aside, it is heartbreaking to witness the death of a person s dream. Some star athletes have had their careers instantly halted by a debilitating injury. Many gifted artists lived in poverty and ridicule because their work was not understood or well received by the people of their era. Some people will never have the opportunity to be part of a family, get an education, own a home, or have a job with a livable wage because someone or something has taken it away from them. In these circumstances, it is easy to grow frustrated with God, the world, and ourselves. This week, we will see how a 17 year old named Joseph had his life hijacked. When God revealed in a dream that Joseph s family would one day bow down and serve him, Joseph s brothers were filled with jealousy. They tried to prevent the prophecy from happening by selling Joseph into slavery and crafting a plot to deceive their parents. Ironically, God used their sinful deeds in order to bring Joseph to Egypt, where he would later rise to a seat of power and save their lives. If Joseph had lost faith in God s plan for his life, he may have stopped dreaming and given into despair. This reminds us also of Jesus faithfulness to God when He laid His life down for us, His beloved children. Have you given up on your dreams? Have you lost sight of God s greater vision for your life? Join us this Sunday as we study God s Word and rediscover our hope in Jesus Christ. Onward, Rev. Lincoln Skinner -5- -8-
