The Truth about Salvation

Introduction God's Teaching on Baptism 1. There is much controversy in the religious world on the subject of "baptism". A. There are varied opinions on baptism: 1) What is it; Is it really necessary? 2) Is it sprinkling or immersion? 3) Why should one be baptized? 4) If necessary, who should be baptized? 2. Let us look to the Bible and find out "What does God teach on baptism? A. This is the question we should all be asking ourselves. We believe the Bible is very clear in this important matter. 3. Let's notice some scriptures from the Bible and the truths they teach: What Is Baptism? 1. It is an immersion or burial in water. A. The Greek word baptizo literally means "to dip, immerse, submerge, or plunge." 1) Nowhere do we learn that baptism is sprinkling or pouring. The context of God's word proves that baptism is immersion. Acts 8:36-38 Romans 6:4 Colossians 2:12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. a) How can you be raised when sprinkled? God s Teaching on Baptism 1

2. It is a death, burial, and resurrection. Romans 6:3-5 3. It is a new birth. John 3:3-5 4. It is a washing away of all one's past sins. Why Be Baptized? 1. Baptized because God commanded it Matthew 28:18-20 Acts 10:48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord... 2. Baptized because one has faith in God - Baptism is the result (action) of our faith. Hebrews 11:6 3. Baptized because we love God and want to keep His commandments. John 14:15 4. Baptized because Jesus said it is necessary in order to receive salvation. Mark 16:16; 1 Peter 3:21 5. Baptized to have all past sins forgiven. Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them,"repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. God s Teaching on Baptism 2

6. Baptized to "put on Christ". Galatians 3:26-27 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 7. Baptized to be added to Christ's body and family - the church. 1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body... Acts 2:47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. 8. Baptized to be obedient to Christ my Savior. Hebrews 5:9 And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, Who Should Be Baptized? 1. Those old enough to hear God's word and to be taught it's truths about sin and salvation through Jesus Christ. John 6:45 It is written in the prophets, 'And they shall all be taught by God.' Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me. 2. Those old enough to believe the gospel (Mark 16:16). Acts 16:30-33 3. Those old enough to understand sin and repentance from it. Acts 2:36-38 4. Those old enough to confess Jesus as their Lord. Romans 10:10 Acts 8:37 Then Philip said,"if you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said,"i believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God." 6. Those ready to begin a new life in Christ. Romans 6:4-5 God s Teaching on Baptism 3

Conclusion 1. These are just some of the clear facts and plain truths of what the Bible - God's word teaches on the subject of Baptism. 2. There is no room for opinions or traditions. A. One will either accept God's way and live forever or accept man's way and suffer the eternal death! I'LL DO IT LATER Ellen Kyle We see all around us those who've passed away, They said "Yes I'll be baptized, but on another day." From the time they were accountable, till the moment that they die, "I'll do it later", became their battle cry. They put off the things they knew they should do, And wouldn't heed God's words though they knew they were true. He told them they must come to him and that they must repent, Before the days He'd give them had all been spent. They heard his words again and again, then left with a hard heart, From the world and all it's fleeting charms they would not depart. So pray for those who hear the truth and refuse to be baptized, Pray they be given precious time to finally realize. How differently they'd live their lives if they could only see, The reality and closeness of their OWN mortality. 3. Why not become a Christian - A child of God today? 2 Corinthians 6:2...Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. God s Teaching on Baptism 4
