Called to be Servants of Christ in Our Community Niagara United Mennonite Church September 23 rd, 2018 ~ EDUCATION SUNDAY ~ Called to be Servants of Christ in Our Community expresses our desire to share our faith and love of Jesus Christ with all we meet. We welcome you and hope that your time with us will be enjoyable and enlightening. Families with children are invited to worship together with us in the service. For children under 3 years old or younger who are not able to sit through the church service, there is a nursery downstairs, or a glassed-in room behind the sanctuary where you may sit with your baby and still follow the service. If you feel a sense of belonging, you are most welcome to be with us. Talk to us about how you can participate. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Our Lighthouse program, which is a time of fellowship and learning for those aged 3 years to Grade 8 is held each Sunday during the Worship Service. The children will be called to the front for the Children s Moment and then released after that. Parents may pick up their children in the Education Wing at the end of the service. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ JOYS & CONCERNS: Congratulations to Lindsay Neufeld and Garrison Barkway who were married here in our church on Saturday. May God continue to lead you both through many joyous years together! Flowers at the front of the church today are placed in remembrance of Augusta Friesen who passed away on September 19, 2013. She is fondly remembered by her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Please continue to pray for: Audrey Epp, Susan Kaye, Hank Pauls, Irene Penner and David Steingart, as well as others who may need our prayers. The family of Jacob Friesen would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who helped with his funeral service. Rev. Waldo Pauls for his warm and meaningful words, the choir for their beautiful voices and music, Helping Hands for putting on a lovely luncheon and those that ushered both the people and the traffic. Every kind word and deed was most appreciated. The Lord even blessed us with a perfect summery day. Thank you to the congregation for keeping him in your thoughts and prayers. We are at peace. We thank you.

We look forward to seeing everyone from the congregation there! Youth Education Director Church Council and Spiritual Council are pleased to welcome Ellery Rauwerda back as NUMC's Youth Education Director. Ellery will be working on a part-time basis to provide a youth program for our church this fall. We are excited to have Ellery and our Youth sponsors on board! Contact information: ellery@redbrickchurch.ca Phone:905-468-3313

Office Coverage Emily Fieguth and Jolien Carter will be providing office coverage on an interim basis until Church Council is able to complete a proper recruitment and hiring process. Note, Emily often walks to work so her car is not here in the parking lot, but she is here. Correction to "Life With Us" newsletter- We apologize for incorrectly listing the late Eugene Blechner in the recent issue of Life with us. Our church records have been updated to ensure this does not happen again. Women in Service Will begin again on October 2 nd at 9:00 a.m. This will be a meeting only. Quilting will resume on October 9 th. The downstairs nursery is back to full-serve with many wonderful volunteers helping us again this year! Our nursery is staffed with two volunteers each week and snacks are provided. Our goal is to offer our children a safe, nurturing Christian environment to play and learn in, all while providing parents the comfort and opportunity to pursue their own spiritual enrichment during the Sunday service. Inviting all Grade 7 and 8 girls! There will be a Bible study offered on Wednesday nights here in our church taught by Ramona Neufeld. The first class will be held on Wednesday, September 26 from 7:00 to 8:15. Please call Mrs. Neufeld at home (905-468-1847) to confirm you would like to participate and then bring your Bible to the first evening. Come out and bring a friend! MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) Ministry has resumed! Through this ministry, we build circles of moms who love each other like family. Our gatherings are where moms can meet to share their hopes, fears and insights, in a format that works with their schedules, that doesn t neglect their faith nor their womanhood, their motherhood nor their purpose, their heart nor their mind. For anyone interested in joining this ministry, you are invited to join these gatherings on the 1 st and 3 rd Tuesdays of the month at 9:30 am. Please phone Erica Froese for more info. Seniors gathering: In lieu of a regular Seniors gathering in October, EVERYONE is invited to come out for a Niagara Regional Hymn-sing at NUMC, at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 28th, exploring "Songs of the Seasons", both new and familiar. Refreshments to follow. Organized by music reps from Vineland UMC, Grace MC, and St. Cath. UMC. For details, contact Renate Dau Klaassen. German worship services: In order to enable us all to worship together on Thanksgiving Sunday October 7th, the German service that was scheduled for that morning, has been postponed to October 14th. The next German service after that will take place October 21st, as scheduled at the beginning of the year.

Welcome Centre Hosts: We are in urgent need of volunteers to help out at the Welcome Centre. Please contact the office if you are interested so that you may be included in the rotation. Ushers needed! We invite you to consider if you are willing and able to serve as an usher for our 10:45 English service. Our current vacancy is for 3 new ushers. Please kindly contact Harold Neufeld, Chair of the Nominations Committee for more information regarding this role, or to volunteer. Kind thanks for your prayerful consideration. On October 7th our church is celebrating Thanksgiving: We are grateful to Dick and Marlene Heidebrecht for happily decorating the church for the fall and Thanksgiving season. If you would like to share items with your community by donating to our food pantry, please place these gifts in the bins provided in the foyer on October 7th. We are not requesting any additional contributions to the sanctuary displays. We look forward to praising God for the many gifts He has given us! The Search Committee has continued to meet over the summer. Our mentor, Dave Brubacher will be away for the month of September and our interim pastor Waldo Pauls has agreed to step in for this time. Currently, we are in conversation with several persons for both the Lead Pastor and the Pastor of Youth and Young Adult Ministries positions. We are hopeful that we will receive two or three MLIs (applications) as a result of these conversations. We trust in the Lord's leading as we continue on and ask for your ongoing prayers for the Search Committee; and for continued prayers for this congregation and for the persons the Holy Spirit is preparing for NUMC. Risk of a postal strike If there is a postal strike after September 26, delivery of Canadian Mennonite magazine may be delayed. Subscribers are welcome to add email delivery to a print subscription.
