News From the Central Carolinas Emmaus Community Volume 28 Issue 5 May 2012 Have You Ever had a 3 - Day Massage? Dianne Hager, CCEC Walk 119, shared with the group who attended the Gathering at Weddington UMC that her Emmaus Walk experience was just like that...a 3 - Day Massage! She said that it seemed like it even lasted two weeks! Then her sponsor asked her how her 4th Days were going. That is when she realized that the ups and downs of life had once again been creeping in to her sweet feeling of being at a spa. She soon began to realize that all of us have those up and down moments and most of the time we don t share those feelings with our friends or family. We answer that all is fine. Shortly after her Walk she began a new job. She found from her Walk that prayer was so important. As she began meeting new people at work, she realized that it is as important to pray for those you don t know as much as it is to pray for those you do know. She had met several people who were unhappy...sad and angry people. This broke her heart. Dianne began to pray for these people. Then she began to talk to them! One customer, an elderly woman, came into the store often and was so sad and lonely looking. One day Dianne simply commented on what a beautiful day it was and her whole demeanor changed. Her face lit up and she smiled. All because someone took time to speak to her. Dianne even saw the changes in a rep from a company who called on the store several times a week. She was always quoting what was going on in the world, then she began quoting scripture. She shared with Dianne that through Christ, even with the stuff going on in the broken world we live in, our future is still and will always be hopeful. This really impressed Dianne and she thanked the rep for sharing Christ with others and it brightened her day and she appreciated the kind words. As Dianne closed her talk, she shared that her stepping out to speak to people she didn t know and to pray for them is a form of massage as well. This is her gift to others, a massage of love when she sees people in the store. What a great lesson for us all! DeColores Clergy Response Rev. Gayle Montgomery, CCEC Walk #33, table of Elizabeth, responded by remembering that Jesus told us that it wouldn t be easy in this world. Being a Christian, a follower of Christ, and attending the Walk to Emmaus does not mean that our walk is going to be easy! Pastor Gayle then went to Jesus prayer to us, when Jesus took His last breath, He gave up the ghost - he gave His Spirit to us! So, take heart, Jesus said: I have come to overcome the world! Be secure in His love. We have unity with Christ, just as the store rep that Dianne talked about, we are no longer alone and we have hope in Jesus. When you feel alone and you need strength, go to His Word and you will find strength in His Words. Is there really power in prayer? Jesus went to His Father in prayer often. If Jesus believed in the power of prayer. If Jesus needed the strength that can come from prayer then so do we! Through Jesus we will receive peace, unity and the power of prayer and that is enough! DeColores! Blessings to the newest members of the Emmaus Community, the Pilgrims from Men s Walk #122 and Women s Walk # 123. We look forward to seeing you at our next Gathering (see below) so we can get acquainted with each one of you. Thank you to both teams for all you did to make the Pilgrims feel loved!
