FAMILY CHRISTMAS EVE DECEMBER 24, 2017 Prelude Music Hark! the Herald Angels Sing... arr. Chris Rice Lucy Austin, Piano Welcome and Invocation David Hailey *Congregational Hymn, 103 O Come, All Ye Faithful...Adeste Fideles *lighting of the Christ candle John, Melissa, Emily, and Johnny Dougher *responsive litany and prayer Leader: God, You spoke through Your prophet Jeremiah, saying People: I have loved you with an everlasting love. Leader: Tonight we celebrate the coming of our Messiah, Jesus, Emmanuel, King of Kings, and Lord of Lords People: The Prince of Peace, the Everlasting God, the One who was promised. Leader: We turn our eyes to Bethlehem, to the manger scene, and imagine how this coming child will impact our lives. People: Let us encounter the Christ-child with wonder and awe, opening ourselves up to God s love. Leader: Lord, we ask for Your help never to forget the amazing mystery of the Christmas story. People: Teach us to love like You love us and to share Your love this Christmas and all year long. Leader: Let us imagine again a world in which Your love rules over all, and then help us to make that world our reality. ALL: Help us to be people filled with Your peace, hope, light, and love. Amen. sharing Christmas stories Emily Patton and Reagan Chapman The Christmas Story Lillian Alford, Bryce Holland, and Thomas Kittler O Little Town of Bethlehem... ST. LOUIS O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie! Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by. Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting Light; The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight. For Christ is born of Mary, and gathered all above, While mortals sleep, the angels keep their watch of wondering love. O morning stars together, proclaim the holy birth, And praises sing to God the King, and peace to men on earth!

Away in a Manger... CRADLE SONG Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head. The stars in the sky looked down where He lay, The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay. The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes, But little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes; I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky And stay by my cradle till morning is nigh. Hark! the Herald Angels Sing...MENDELSSOHN Hark! the herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn King; peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled! Joyful, all ye nations rise, join the triumph of the skies; with th angelic host proclaim, Christ is born in Bethlehem! Hark! the herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn King! Christ, by highest heaven adored; Christ the everlasting Lord; late in time, behold Him come, offspring of a virgin s womb. Veiled in flesh the Godhead see; hail th incarnate Deity, pleased as man with us to dwell, Jesus our Emmanuel. The First Nowell...THE FIRST NOWELL And by the light of that same star the wise men came from country far; to seek for a king was their intent, and to follow the star wherever it went. Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, born is the King of Israel. Silent Night... STILLE NACHT Silent night, holy night, All is calm, all is bright Round yon virgin mother and Child. Holy Infant, so tender and mild, Sleep in heavenly peace, Sleep in heavenly peace. imagine - bringing our gifts to jesus Sarah Mears
