Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church Waconia, Minnesota Church Council Meeting Minutes Tuesday September 18th, 2018 at 6:30 pm Mission: To learn, serve and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Vision: To be a dynamic, energized worshipping community where all are growing in our relationship with Jesus Christ, one another and those beyond our walls. Inclusive Grace. Contagious Love. Council Members Present Absent Lisa Moe, President Richard Scott, Vice President Craig Sinclair, Treasurer Peggy Phillipy, Secretary Scott Texley, Building & Maintenance Sarah Hartwig, Faith Formation Kari Colby, Connections Ministry Quentin Knaak, Social Outreach Stan Winnie, Stewardship Kelly Dreier, Worship & Music Aaron Kopel IT & Communications Dale Peterson Sr. Pastor Christine Ruth Associate Pastor The meeting was called to order by Richard Scott, at 6:30 p.m. We started the meeting by going around the room and sharing where and when we were baptized. Richard read the Mission and Vision Statements. Get to Know Our Staff: No representative for September. Getting to Know the Ministries: Connections (October- Stewardship) Connections (Growing to Serve and Connect) - Kari Colby 13 more ministries were represented at the Connections Fair. The primary goal is to get people involved. A Time and Talents Survey email blast went out September 16 th. Finding volunteers is a

struggle and we tend to use the same people. Hoping the Time and Talents Survey will bring in new people wanting to get involved. The Time and Talents Survey is also available on the front page of our website. Events- There was a Scavenger Hunt in spring at Schram Vineyards. There was not a Fall Festival this year due to no enough people. Upcoming- Ornament Exchange and a possible family event in February. Our primary goal is to make people feel welcome here and make sure they are making connections. In 2019, we would like to do New Member integrations. We want to make sure that after their new member classes, we follow up with them and try to get them involved. Small groups are the biggest success. We are trying to work on the team (adding new members) would like to find people who are good at engaging with our 20-30 year olds. Pastors Reports: Pastor Dale: It has been a busy 3 weeks getting ready for fall programming to begin. New sound system sounds great. Attendance has been good the last few Sundays. Starting on Rally Sunday, we will be using the Narrative Lectionary instead of the Revised Common Lectionary. On the weeks from September through May, each year the texts follow the sweep of the biblical story, from Creation through the early Christian church. It has been fun to put together the Pinwheel Prayer Path. This started on Rally Sunday and will continue through the fall. Prayer is a good way to connect with God and others. You may bring your own pinwheel or pick up a pinwheel in the gathering space. You write your prayers concerns on the pinwheel and bring it to the Pinwheel Prayer Path. Place your pinwheel in the ground against or under the yellow cord. Then prayerwalk the course, moving slowly/prayerfully counter clockwise along the path. The whole community is invited to participate. A lot of Pastoral Care stuff happening lately. Overall, good energy here at Faith. Pastor Christine: Thanks go out to Jean on the Small Groups Guide Handbook.

Upcoming- Dinner for 8- Right now, there are 9 hosts. 6 family groups and 3 adult only groups. This is once a month starting in January and running through April. DVD Series- All congregational small group DVD series- Love Does by Bob Goff. This will begin the week of September 30 th and is a 5 week series. Register to host or attend online or contact Pastor Christine for more information. Monthly Leadership Huddle: Canoeing the Mountains: Christian Leadership in Unchartered Territory by Tod Bolsinger. This is the 3 rd Sunday of the month from 11:15-12:30. It begins October 21 st for 7 months. Join us as we seek to improve our leadership skills and provide support and guidance for challenge we may face as leaders in our workplace or here at church. Mom s Connect- What is the Bible by Rob Bell. This is Thursday mornings from 9:30-11 starting September 20 th. This group is for any 20-40 something-aged woman looking to build Christian Friendships and to deepen spiritual growth. This is a great book for people who feel clueless or skeptical about the Bible and whether it s relevant for today. 2018 Fall Women s Advent Retreat- Incarnation- How God Manifests through YOU! In advent we reflect on the mystery of incarnation- How God dared to come down to us and take the form of flesh, as a vulnerable living, breathing human being. Perhaps even more mystifying is how God chooses to live, move, and manifest though you. This is at Camp Eden Wood in Eden Prairie on Friday, November 16 th -Saturday, November 17 th from 5:00 PM-5:00 PM. Treasurer's Report: Revenue is slightly ahead of budget for the month of August (2.9%) but remains under budget YTD (-4.7%). Operating expenses remain under budget for the month of August and YTD. Attendance has remained steady during the summer months, which is a positive change from previous summers. We are looking forward to a strong September. Motion to approve the Treasurer s report as submitted by Treasurer Craig Sinclair and the Secretary s report for July 2018 as submitted via email by Peggy Phillipy was made by Stan Winnie. The motion was seconded by Kari Colby. All approved. Motion carried. Key Discussion Topics: 1. Special Congregation Meeting- Lisa has sent agenda- We would like as many council members/call committee to be there as possible. 2. 2019 Budget Calendar- Budget worksheets when out last week- These should be submitted back to Mike by November 5 th or sooner.
