2015 Red Mass on October 2 in Portland -Bishop Robert P. Deeley will celebrate the annual Red Mass on Friday, October 2, at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland. The bishop will ask for God s blessing upon those who serve in the legal profession and in public service and for God's guidance in the administration of justice. People of all faiths are invited to attend the Mass at the Cathedral and the Red Mass Luncheon, which will be held at the Portland Regency Hotel on 20 Milk Street at 12:15 p.m. The Honorable Jon David Levy, U.S. District Judge, will serve as the luncheon's keynote speaker. The Joy and Challenge of Pope Francis Presentation in Portland on September 17 The Joy and Challenge of Pope Francis, a presentation by Dr. Tom Ryan, Director of the Loyola Institute for Ministry, is scheduled for Thursday, September 17, at 6 p.m. in the chapel of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland. All are welcome. Pictures of Pope Francis convey an infectious joy, and his message is often one of hope and mercy. Yet, like Jesus, his words also challenge. In anticipation of his visit to the United States, this multimedia presentation focuses on Pope Francis' life and words and how they represent an invitation to all the baptized to deepen their faith and live out its implications. Dr. Ryan is a noted presenter who discusses the implications of the Catholic theological and spiritual tradition for the life of faith today. He is co-author of a volume of translations of medieval commentaries on St. Paul's Letter to the Romans, a volume that recently won first place in the Catholic Press Association s "Scripture Academic Studies" division.
