Amen THE LITURGY OF THE WORD New Testament Reading Acts 10: 34 43 Annabel Dahlbom Peter began to speak to those assembled in the house of Cornelius: I truly understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ he is Lord of all. That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John announced: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear, not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name. This is the Word of the Lord Thanks be to God With prayers and every blessing for a joyful Eastertide from Fr Jeremy, Fr Neil, Elizabeth, The Revd Dr Judith Thomas, the Churchwardens and members of the Parochial Church Council. Gradual Hymn 1. Alleluia, Alleluia, give thanks to the risen Lord. Alleluia, alleluia, give praise to his name. 1. Jesus is Lord of all the earth. He is the King of creation. 2. Spread the good news o'er all the earth. Jesus has died and has risen. 3. We have been crucified with Christ. Now we shall live for ever. 4. God has proclaimed the just reward. Life for all men, alleluia. 5. Come, let us praise the living God, joyfully sing to our Saviour. Don Fishel 1973 The Word of God 10 3

THE ALLELUIA The Lord be with you. And also with you. (Stand, and face the Gospel) Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark. Glory to you, O Lord. THE GOSPEL Mark 16: 1 8 When the sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. They had been saying to one another, Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb? When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled back. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. But he said to them, Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you. So they went out and fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. SERMON The Revd Dr Judith Thomas AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Let us declare our faith in God. We believe in God the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named. Father of all, we give you thanks and praise, that when we were still far off you met us in your Son and brought us home. Dying and living, he declared your love, gave us grace, and opened the gate of glory. May we who share Christ's body live his risen life; we who drink his cup bring life to others; we whom the Spirit lights give light to the world. Keep us firm in the hope you have set before us, so we and all your children shall be free, and the whole earth live to praise your name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. THE BLESSING The God of peace, who brought again, from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the eternal covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well - pleasing in his sight; and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always. Amen. CLOSING HYMN 1. Thine be the glory, risen, conquering Son, endless is the victory thou o'er death hast won; angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away, kept the folded grave-clothes where thy body lay. Thine be the glory, risen, conquering Son, endless is the victory thou o'er death hast won. 2. Lo, Jesus meets us, risen from the tomb; Lovingly he greets us, scatters fear and gloom; let the Church with gladness hymns of triumph sing, for her Lord now liveth, death hath lost its sting: 3. No more we doubt thee, glorious Prince of Life; life is nought without thee: aid us in our strife; make us more than conquerors through thy deathless love; bring us safe through Jordan to thy home above: E L Budry (1854 1932) tr R B Hoyle We believe in God the Son, who lives in our hearts through faith, and fills us with his love. 4 9

LORD'S PRAYER As our Saviour taught us, so we pray. Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen. BREAKING OF THE BREAD We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: grant us peace. INVITATION TO COMMUNION Alleluia, Christ our Passover has been sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia. We believe in God the Holy Spirit, who strengthens ius with power from on high. We believe in one God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen. THE INTERCESSION led by Joanne & Harrison Hawkes After We pray to the Father Hear our prayer THE LITURGY OF THE SACRAMENT THE PEACE The Risen Christ came and stood among his disciples and said "Peace be with you" Then were they glad when they saw the Lord. Alleluia! The Peace of the Lord be always with you. and also with you. Alleluia! Let us offer one another a sign of peace. THE OFFERTORY HYMN Bread, wine, water and the Offerings are brought to the Table THE COMMUNION We invite all baptised Christians to receive Holy Communion. If you would like a blessing please bring this booklet up with you. Anthem during Communion Now the green blade rises arr R Bullard AFTER COMMUNION God of Life, who for our redemption gave your only-begotten Son to the death of the cross, and by his glorious resurrection have delivered us from the power of our enemy: grant us so to die daily to sin, that we may evermore live with him in the joy of his risen life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. 1. Sing of the Lord s goodness, Father of all wisdom, come to him and bless his name. Mercy he has shown us, his love is for ever, faithful to the end of days. Come then, all you nations, sing of your Lord s goodness, melodies of praise and thanks to God. Ring out the Lord s glory, praise him with your music, worship him and bless his name. 2. Power he has wielded, honour is his garment, risen from the snares of death. His word he has spoken, one bread he has broken, new life he now gives to all. 3. Courage in our darkness, comfort in our sorrow, Spirit of our God most high ; solace for the weary, pardon for the sinner, splendour of the living God. 8 5

4. Praise him with your singing, praise him with the trumpet, praise God with the lute and harp ; praise him with the cymbals, praise him with your dancing, praise God till the end of days. THE PREPARATION OF THE GIFTS: Pray, my brothers and sisters, that our sacrifice may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father. May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name, for our good, and the good of all his Church. Yours, Lord is the greatness, the power, the glory, the splendour and the majesty; for everything in heaven and on earth is yours. All things come from you, and of your own do we give you. THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER B The Lord be with you and also with you. Lift up your hearts, We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give thanks and praise. Come then, all you nations, sing of your Lord s goodness, melodies of praise and thanks to God. Ring out the Lord s glory, praise him with your music, worship him and bless his name. Ernest Sands (b. 1949) It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give you thanks, almighty and eternal Father, and in these days of Easter to celebrate with joyful hearts the memory of your wonderful works. For by the mystery of his passion Jesus Christ, your risen Son, has conquered the powers of death and hell and restored in men and women the image of your glory, He has placed them once more in Paradise and opened the gate of life eternal. And so, in the joy of this Passover earth and heaven resound with gladness, while angels and archangels and the powers of all creation sing for ever the hymn of your glory Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest: Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the highest. Lord, you are holy indeed, the source of all holiness; grant that by the power of your Holy Spirit, and according to your holy will, these your gifts of bread and wine may be to us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ; who, in the same night that he was betrayed, took bread and gave you thanks; he broke it and gave it to his disciples saying, Take eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me. In the same way, after supper he took the cup and gave you thanks; he gave it to them, saying, Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. Great is the mystery of faith: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again. And so, Father, calling to mind his death on the cross, his perfect sacrifice made once for the sins of the whole world; rejoicing at his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension, and looking for his coming in glory, we celebrate this memorial of our redemption. As we offer you this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, we bring before you this bread and this cup and we thank you for counting us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you; Send the Holy Spirit on your people and gather into one in your kingdom all who share this one bread and one cup, so that we, in the company of The Blessed Virgin Mary, and all the saints, may praise and glorify you for ever, through Jesus Christ our Lord; by whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory be yours, almighty Father, for ever and ever. Amen 6 7
