It s been seventy-five years since then and the education trust now operates hundreds of schools and colleges around the world. On December 30th 2012 at the inauguration of the trust s platinum Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Race Course Road, Bangalore - 560 001. jubilee celebrations, President Pranab Mukherjee described Munshi, whose 125th birth anniversary was also celebrated this year, as one of the dreamers of modern India. The institution conferred its rare honorary membership upon veteran Hindustani classical singer Kishori Amonkar, women empowerment campaigner Ela Bhatt and chairman of Infosys Narayan Murthy. Among the 40 others who have been bestowed with the membership before are the Dalai Lama, Mother Teresa and C Rajagopalachari. In the past 75 years, the Bharatiya Vidya BHAVAN IN 75 YEARS HAS 395 CONSTITUENT INSTITUTIONS Bhavan has set up 395 constituent institutions and 122 centres spread across the country, which teach engineering, commerce, science, arts, management, Indian culture, synthesis of science and human values and so on. The Bhavan is rooted, but remains relevant ot current time with its newer programmes, said Chavan. The trust recently received Rs.10 crore from the prime minister s fund for its new projects in tribal areas that will cater to 4,62,000 students. A great Savant, Sri K M Munshi devoted his entire energy towards promoting value-based education, Dr. H R Bhardwaj, Governor of Karnataka has observed. The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan which he founded in 1939, is an eloquent testimony to this ardent devotion of his, he added. Dr. Bhardwaj was delivering a special lecture at Banquet Hall of Rajbhavan, Bangalore on Dr K M Munshi His Life and Message as part of his 125th birth anniversary celebrations. The function was organised by the Bangalore Kendra of Bhavan on December 30, 2012 his birthday. Dr.Bhardwaj lamented that our education system itself VALUE-BASED EDUCATION WAS MUNSHI S AIM : BHARDWAJ had failed. Gurukulas which thrived no longer existed. People looked to the West without realizing that there was a rich store of knowledge in our scriptures, he rued. Referring to this treasurehouse of culture and tradition, the Governor said, in them there are commandments that offer solutions to all our problems, as evidenced in our puranas and other scriptural literature. He averred that H.E. Dr. H.R. Bhardwaj, Governor of Karnataka and Swami Harshanandji Maharaj, President, Ramakrishna Math lighting the lamp to mark Dr. K.M. Munshiji's 125th Birth Anniversary. 7
H.E. Dr. H.R. Bhardwaj, launched 'Patanada Prabhutva", a Kannada translation of Dr. K.M. Munshiji's Gujarati novel 'Patana Ni Prabhutva'. Others are from Lto R Sri. H.R. Ananth, Swami Harshanandji Maharaj and Sri. K.G. Raghavan. Sri Munshi believed that those spiritual values were invaluable for our society and set up several organizations to practice them, the most important being the Bhavan. Without compromising in his belief, he worked all his life to uphold them, he said, adding at the same time he believed in all religions, convinced that they collectively added towards the progress of the country. Dr.Bhardwaj confessed that he considered himself fortunate for having been associated with Sri Munshi when the latter had retired from public life to practice law. Earlier, Dr.Bhardwaj released Patanada Prabhutva, a Kannada translation of Sri Munshi s Gujrati novel Patan Ni Prabhuta. The work was translated by the late Sri Narayana Murthy and published by the Bangalore Centre. Swami Sri Harshanandaji Maharaj, President of the Sri Ramakrishna Math, Bangalore, who presided over the function, recalled the yeomen service of Sri Munshi in the integration of Hyderabad R K MATH AND BVB SHARE SAME VALUES : HARSHANANDA in the Indian Union. He said that the Bhavan set up by Sri Munshi and the Ashram itself believe in the same traditional values and have shared good relationship for over 60 years. While Sri K G Raghavan, Hon. The Bangalore Kendra of Bhavan went a whole hog by taking part in the centenary celebrations of the renowned Bharathanatyam exponent, Prof U S Krishna Rao, who in the early years of the Kendra imparted lessons in the art in its Kala Bharathi classes. The three-day celebrations from December 4 were organised by the students of Prof. Krishna Rao and his equally distinguished wife Chandrabhaga, with Maha Maya, State Department of Kannada and Culture, the Karnataka Nrityakala Parishath, State Sangeet Nritya Academy, and the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan SEMINAR, DANCE RECITALS MARK USK'S GALA BIRTH CENTENARY The morning sessions comprised of a seminar and screening of a documentary on the internationally-known dance teacher. The evenings were earmarked for dance recitals, mostly by students of teachers who are the mainstream disciples of the famed dancing couple. Befitting the gala event that revived memories of the leading dance couple of the 20th century, contemporary dance pairs like Sridhar and Anuradha Sridhar, Kiran Subramanyam and Shandhya Kiran, Nirupama and T D Rajendra, Uday Kumar Shetty and Soumya Uday, were felicitated besides Ragaswamy and Chennakeshaiah who provided musical accompaniment for Prof USK and Chandrabhaga. Team-building and communication exercises and exercises on leadership for success, formed part of a daylong workshop on Team and Group Dynamics, jointly organized by the Bhavan s H.B. College and Parvik Consultants. Bhagavad Gita, the sacred religious text of the Hindus preaches the cosmic power of Karma, besides prompting the youth to develop a determined approach in life, according to Swami Sri. Iswarananda Giriji Maharaj of Samvit Sadhanayana, Mount Abu, Rajasthan. The Swamiji was speaking on the importance of Gita at the Gita Jayanti celebrations jointly organized by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and the Samvit Vikasa Kendra at Bhavan's Khincha auditorium on Dec 23. He stressed the importance of Gita Parayana in these troubled days. The Swamiji belongs to the order of Paramahamsas sanctified by Acharya Adi Sankara.
