ST JOSEPH S CATHOLIC CHURCH, UPMINSTER PARISH NEWSLETTER For private circulation only Website: www.stjosephschurchupminster.com Facebook: St Joseph s Catholic Church Email: Upminster@dioceseofbrentwood.org A Wedding Feast Should Not Be a Sad Affair The first readings and the gospel use the image of a wedding to describe the relationship between God and his people. The prophet Isaiah promises that Jerusalem, destroyed and abandoned, will once again become the beloved spouse of God. Jesus works his first sign in the context of a marriage feast, a sign of the new covenant that he has come to celebrate. By giving the wine that cheers the human heart, he transformed the sterile religion of the Jews. The second reading deals with human charisms. God gives them to all of us so that we might serve our brothers and sisters better. Whenever our charisms are used in this way, our communities will be filled with love, cheerfulness and peace. This is the sign of the presence of the wine given by Jesus. This weeks Readings First Reading: Is 62:1-5 Sec. Considering we were only formed 6 months ago, we have produced many items for various charities, of which we have received several letters of appreciation for our donations. We are now thinking of broadening our skills to sewing small gift items too. If sewing is something you would like to help us with rather than knitting we would love to have you join our group. We will continue meeting once a month on a Monday afternoon 12.30 3.30pm. Our friendly group are always happy to see new members that we can chat to, have fun and enjoy a beverage and biscuits. Why not give it a try. Our next meeting will be on 21 st January. We look forward to seeing you. Yvonne Dickens

Bird feeders and bird food collection - We are also grateful for the bird feeders for St. Peter's, of which we now have enough, although we are still collecting bird food. St. Joseph's Cycling Club As part of our LiveSimply campaign we are encouraging parishioners to adopt a more healthy lifestyle so why not join the 'St. Joseph's Cycling Club. The club consists of a few friends doing something they enjoy. They go out every Sunday for a couple of hours meeting at 10.30am in Upminster Park and use mainly off road routes cycling between 15 and 25 miles depending on the time available. When possible they also cycle during the week. They would welcome any parishioner to join whether for a one-off ride or regularly. There is a picture in the Social Centre of the group about to set off for a mid-week ride.
