Fr. Larry s Corner of the Bulletin Something strange happens in our Gospel today that must have hurt Jesus a lot his own hometown friends rejected him. His family, friends and neighbors thought they knew him pretty good. In their estimation he was just one of them, a day laborer turned preacher. He didn t belong to the priestly class or have an extensive formal education in Jerusalem like other religious leaders. Maybe a few were impressed by the crowds he was attracting and the wonderful things they heard he was doing, but most thought he wasn t so special and were wondering why he didn t just come home and work at making chairs and tables. Some of the saddest words in Scripture are only found here in the Gospel of mark: He was not able to perform any mighty deeds there The message is obvious: a lack of faith Collection for June 24, 2018 actually prevents God from helping us as he would like. I know that I always Collection.. $5658.50 feel that I would not be like those villagers. I would have recognized who Jesus was for sure! But the point is we are a lot like those villagers. We often build a Jesus to our own liking someone who thinks like we do and that s not really Jesus. Knowing Jesus require reading Scripture, listening to the church he founded, and praying a lot. Otherwise we are not following the real Jesus. God bless!

a r s 2 0 e 1 8 Y e v i f 1983-Celebrating Thirty Hope Becomes Reality Receiving approval from the Archdiocese of New Orleans, bidding was sent out to seven construction firms. Upon opening the sealed bids, Clover Construction had the lowest bid by $200,000. This was due to a grave mistake on their part. They had forgotten to include the plumbing cost. Although they had seven days to retract the bid, Mr. Hugh O Connor, President of Clover Construction, said they would honor the bid because the church was named for St. John Bosco. Mr. O Connor had been raised by the Salesians of St. John Bosco at Hope Haven in Marrero. On November 24, 1981, a contract was signed with Clover to build new the church of St. John Bosco.
On a cold yet sunny morning Sunday, February 7, 1982, Mass was celebrated at St. Rosalie Church. Following Mass, the motorcade proceeded to the site of the new St. John Bosco Church in Woodmere.
