September Report Activities: 15 th 18 th August: My diary didn t stay quite up to date on the language course because so much was happening. However I did write down the main events that happened. Each day we had Danish classes until 12 when we then had lunch. After lunch we usually had a meeting afterwards for about 2 hours. We then sometimes had a meeting in the evening as well after dinner. On the 15 th we talked about Tourism in Denmark and important places to see in Denmark. On the 16 th we were told about the Danish Royal family and in the evening we did some line dancing. On the 17 th we talked about Mærsk McKinney Møller, the original owner of one of the world s largest shipping companies. That evening we had a Danish song evening which was rather fun for us all. The 18 th, we didn t have anything after classes so most of us were getting ready for the test on the 19 th. 19 th August: Today we had tests in the morning, in pairs, were we spoke, in Danish, to each other in general conversation and then we were asked questions on a certain topic. For my partner and I, we had education. However, instead of asking about our education, they asked about our family member s education. It went well though and we passed easily. After lunch we were given certificates to say we had passed the language course. In the evening we had a nice dinner set out by the hotel and one of our teacher s band s was playing for us after dinner. It was a good fun night and a good way to spend the last night. 20 th August: We headed off in the morning at 10am, after cleaning our rooms. First we stopped in Århus to drop off those going to uni there. We then continued on to Fyn where we had a 15 minute stop just outside Odense and we dropped off one more person who was studying in Odense. We then continued on to Copenhagen. We dropped everyone off at DTU in Lyngby and then the rest of us who were staying there, were dropped off at the station in Lyngby. We then headed off to the city and I continued on home with one of the others, despite being sick along the way.

21 st August: Today, after dropping off my friend at the station, my host family and I headed off to my host mum s sister s place for her daughter s birthday. We had a nice evening there and I saw my host brother and host dad again, as they had been on Samsø on the farm that weekend. 22 nd August: Started back at school today but my new school calendar is very relaxed and I usually only have two classes a day, starting at 10am and finishing at 1:45 with lunch in the middle. I was asked in history if I could make a presentation about Australia s involvement in WW1 on the 19 th of September, so I said I would. That evening, when my host mum got home, we ordered tickets to London for the 21 st and 22 nd of September. It s also 7 months in Denmark today and I am having the time of my life. An experience like I am having this year is never an easy one to come by and I m glad I got the chance to. In the last 7 months I have met stacks of people from all over the world. I ve seen places some people couldn t even dream about. I ve experienced things people would pay hundreds for. I ve missed home, yes, but with everything I have been given and that I have done so far this year, I haven t been able to even think that much about home. It is a year I will never forget, full of people that will never be forgotten. The fact that there are families around the world that helps someone they barely know at the start, experience such amazing things and give them the opportunity to explore not only the world but themselves as well is amazing. I will forever be grateful for the experience and opportunity I have been given this year. I feel that just within these last seven months, I have grown greatly as a person. I have become, as I feel, more mature, more independent and more knowledgeable of the world we live in and the people within it. This year so far, has gone beyond what I could have imagined and I so glad I took this chance to go into the world alone and explore. Not once this year have I regretted coming away. I haven t regretted anything I have done this year as it has all helped me learn and grow. For that I am forever grateful.

24 th August: Today I had school and we had our school photos as well as a muck up photo. My class decided to dress up as Pirates as our class is 3.Y. So we made a sign that said 3.Y is the rum all gone? I then went to the park down the road and read until I had to go to Rotary. The Rotary meeting was okay, although I don t recall what it was about. 25 th August: Today I didn t have school so I met with the people from the language course in the city. We wandered around the city for a while and then we split off into groups. In the evening two of my friends and I went for dinner at a restaurant. It was a nice evening and good to catch up again. 26 th August: Had school today and then in the evening, we had our intro party at school. It s tradition for all three years in each class, so in my class it was 1.Y, 2.Y and 3.Y, to have the warm up party together. So in the afternoon I got ready for the warm up to the warm up party which was just up the road from the warm up party at the house of one of the people in my class. We then went down to the warm up party where the 1 st years had food for us. We then ate and had a good time before heading off to the school for the party. It took a while to get into the party but once we were in it was good and we had a good time. I then went home and fell asleep straight away as the evening was so much fun. 27 th August: I went to my friends place on Saturday night as she had had a bad week and she wanted some cheering up. We were going to just stay at home but instead, as we both have Tivoli Wildcards, allowing us free entry and free rides for the season, we decided to go to Tivoli and have some fun. It was raining but it didn t matter, in fact it meant that there were no lines at the rides. 28 th August: I woke up at my friends place and headed out to Lyngby as the other Australian that was at the language course was having a BBQ for the language course people. We had a good afternoon and it was good to meet up with them all again. After being with them for 3 weeks, not seeing them even for half a week felt a little odd. Despite the on and off rain of Denmark and that evening, it was good.

30 th August: I met with one of the people from the language course again and we had juice in a nice juice bar in town. We sat and chatted for a while and then he had to go to classes for uni. I then met with one of the Aussies, Ellen, in town and we wandered around to catch up. 31 st August: I met up with another one of the guys from the language course as he needed some new shoes. We wandered around and got his shoes and by 12pm we were done so we headed off on our ways. After few hours at home, I went back to the city and met with my host Mum, Regitze, and we went to Rosenborg castle and saw the crown jewels and the inside of the castle. It was very nice as were the jewels. We then went across the road to a gallery which had many different types of art. I ve come down with a cold so my instructions for tomorrow from my host mum are Sleep till you wake and do nothing. 2 nd September: Today I went into town and met up with Bec and we went shopping for things for her to wear for her birthday. I also bought my dress for my Gala which is on the 7 th of October. It s like the formal back home. We then met up again in the evening for dinner and then went to Tivoli, however, as there were many people there for a concert which didn t start till 10:30, there were some very long lines so we didn t stay for long. 3 rd September: Today my host family and I went to Hellerup as there was a market in the main street. It was mainly just people selling things they didn t want anymore but it was nice to walk around anyway. We then went into town to the markets there for a bit. My host mum then dropped me off at Bec s place where we had dinner for her birthday with her host families and then we went into town in the evening to celebrate Bec turning 18. It was a really good evening and we all had a lot of fun. 4 th September: Tonight we went out to a family friend s place in Hillerød, although I didn t know that was where we were until I asked as I had fallen asleep in the car after about 10 mins on the road. It was a nice evening. 6 th September: Spoke in class today. It was history and the teacher was asking about the propaganda posters we were looking at for the Germans in WW1. I spoke in English though as it was easier and he asked me in English as well. I don t think I would have been able to answer that question in Danish anyway. 7 th September: Today I had one class and then I went into town to pass the time before I had to go to Rotary. I did a little shopping to buy some warm clothes as it is starting to get cold here again. I

then met with my friend Jon-Joe from the language course and we went and got juice at the juice bar. I then went back to Hellerup and to Rotary. The meeting was about the Gentofte Kommune, which is the district the club is located in. 8 th September: Today I had my school sports day. I played soccer as the sport for the day, although I couldn t play it as well as I thought I could. I couldn t really play at all. I then went into town and bumped into town of the exchange students from Brazil. We walked around for a bit and then I went to central station to meet up with my friend from the language course who was visiting from Odense. We went to Amalienborg castle, which is where the Queen and Crown Prince Frederick and Crown Princess Mary live. We then walked back to the main part of the town and met with one of the other guys from the language course. We then had dinner at a sushi bar and then headed home. 9 th September: Today I went to school for one class and then went home to sleep as I was sick again, this time with swollen tonsils. I then met with the guys from the language course, the 3 that I was hanging around with the whole course. We met in town and grabbed some dinner and walked around town. I then headed home as I was feeling rather sick. 10 th September: I skyped home today at 12pm as it was Mum s birthday. I then went into town to meet with Alex, the friend who was visiting from Odense as he was heading back today. When I arrived though, he told me to go home as I was feeling rather bad, so we walked for a bit and then I went home. When my host family came home, my host Dad took me to the hospital as, on the weekend, that is the only place you can see a doctor. So we waited for 2 hours to see a doctor where he then told me what I already knew and gave me a prescription for antibiotics.
