P A G E 2 P A G E 2 Spring Book Fair Preview Sew Zoey Series Have you heard of Zoey yet? This series is already popular at the Ensign Library with 3-4th grade girls. It s the story of Zoey, an aspiring clothing designer who doesn t have any natural talent for sewing and must rely on taking classes, lots of practice, and determination. Although the covers look really cheesy and super sweet, not all is perfect in Zoey s world. She is learning to navigate bullies, friendships, and the dangers of technology. I highly recommend this series! A perfect magazine to go with it, is KIKI, which can be found right here in our Ensign Library! Clarice Bean by Lauren Child. Clarice is a not to be missed unique character who is featured in both picture books and chapter books. Fans of Ivy and Bean will love Clarice and her interesting perspective on life. Spirit Animals Series Students loved book 1 in this series, by local and very popular author Brandon Mull. So they will be eager to read this second book, which is by another author. As will be each book in this series. Every wondered what your Spirit Animal might be?
P A G E 3 New Collections Dealing with and Prevention of Bullying Books The amazing staff at the Salt Lake City School District Media Center surprised all of the Librarians in the district with the news that they had been awarded a grant! Each school library media center was granted a budget for purchasing anti-bullying books! A lesson for each grade will be presented by myself, as part of the grant requirements, and this new collection will be such an asset to our school! Thank You! Coretta Scott King Award books Need a Book for Reluctant Reader? Otis Dooda by Ellen Potter has my seal of approval. It is full of the gross stuff that boys love, but is surprisingly well written and had me laughing my head off! What was missing from our library? This amazing collection of award winning books! Now we have almost all of them! The Coretta Scott King Book Awards are given annually to outstanding African American authors and illustrators of books for children and young adults that demonstrate an appreciation of African American culture and universal human values. The award commemorates the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and honors his wife, Mrs. Coretta Scott King, for her courage and determination to continue the work for peace and world brotherhood. Volunteer: Book Fair!! I really need some volunteers for the upcoming book fair. Email Sonja Hales sonja_hales@aol.com Tech Volunteers I am teaching a ton of information literacy on the computers. Which can be both confusing and distracting for many of the students. I would love volunteers for technology units. Contact me to help out! Donations: The library is constantly seeking: Cozy furniture like bean bags, blankets, big stuffed animals. Books! Prizes of every kind. Ink for our color printers! Strange decorations (like tribal masks) or kites! A mural! Know anyone who can paint one?
