Turn the Other Cheek Question: I recently heard you give a good explanation of turning the other cheek. Could you summarize that here? Answer: The teaching of Bishop Robert Barron, who explains that Jesus solution to withstanding the scorn or attacks of others involves a kind of third way. One reaction to the attacks of another is to strike back and thereby become like the one who attacks. Another reaction is to flee or acquiesce to the unjust incursion of another. But, as the good bishop says, neither solution is good, or what Jesus teaches. Rather, to turn the other cheek is to stand your ground, look your opponent in the eye and say, in effect, I will not become like you and enter your world of scorn. Neither will I flee from you and supply you that victory. I will stay here, as I am, and make you confront the injustice of you own stance; that you cannot ultimately prevail over me by making me like you, or making me flee. This is fundamentally the stance employed by the Civil Rights movement and other forms of nonviolent resistance to injustice.

Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time CHURCH OF THE HOLY SPIRIT FAITH FORMATION NEWS: Karen Hoose, Director of Faith Formation email: khoose@frontiernet.net HOLY TRINITY PARISH FAITH FORMATION NEWS: Cindy Kollar, Faith Formation Coordinator email: ckollar@holytrinityjohnstown.com The Faith Formation offices at Holy Spirit and Holy Trinity are not staffed during the summer. If you need information about any of our programs (RCIA, Adult Faith Formation, etc.) the best way to contact Karen Hoose is to email the parish at holyspirit12078@gmail.com or call the parish office at 725-3143 and leave a message. To Contact Cindy Kollar, email cindy_kollar@yahoo.com. You can also check our websites (addresses are on the bulletin cover) for information. Congratulations to Gary & Liz Stevens for presenting their son, Rocco Lucas Stevens for Baptism at The Church of the Holy Spirit. Congratulations to Timothy August & Breana McCoy for presenting their son, Avery August and to Michael & Carolyn Balshi for presenting their children, Andrew and Mara Balshi for Baptism at Holy Trinity Church. HOLY SPIRIT MASS INTENTIONS: As announced, the Mass schedule changes will take effect the first weekend in September. Any previously scheduled Sunday 8:30 A.M. Masses have been moved to the 11:30 A.M. time. Daily Masses will be on Thursdays and Fridays only, so some previously scheduled Masses, also, have been rescheduled to those two days. Any one who would like to arrange a rescheduling is asked to call the parish office at 725-3143. Since we will only have two weekend and two daily Masses each week, there are other options available for consideration at Holy Spirit for remembering the deceased or celebrating the living. Wine or Hosts for a month $50.00 for each. Building Fund no set amount. Sanctuary Candle $12.00 for 2-week period. Memorial Fund Plaque $100.00 per name. The first Friday Mass intention is in memory for all the names listed on the plaques. FRIDAY S TABLE This very important outreach program continues to be a great success. Due to your generosity and twelve dedicated teams of volunteers, we are serving an average of 75 meals every Friday. We have seen an increase in the number of families with children attending Friday s Table. One on hand, it is great to see the children, and on the other hand, it demonstrates the expanding need for this service. You will notice a new coin box at the main entrance of the church dedicated to the Friday s Table program, and of course you will always find an envelope in the pew. BINGO WORKERS: There will be bingo on August 6, 2016 HOLY TRINITY MASS INTENTIONS: As announced, the Mass schedule changes will take effect the first weekend in September. A few previously scheduled Masses had to be rescheduled. Those families effected have been notified and Masses have been rescheduled. If you have any questions please call the office at 762-2636. Since the Masses schedule has been reduced, please consider other options for remembering the deceased or celebrating the living. Memorial fund; Mother Teresa's closet; Vestment fund; Rectory window fund; Candle oil fund. Please join us on Sunday mornings after the 8:00 A.M. and 10:30 A.M. Masses at Holy Trinity for coffee, juice and a snack. If you would like to volunteer to host one of our coffee hours on Sunday, please call the office at 762-2636. MOTHER TERESA S CLOSET: Thank you to the parishioners of the Church of the Holy Spirit for your recent donations. Thank you to all that continue to generously donate money and supplies to help to restock our shelves. The Outreach Committee
