Eucharistic Adoration Monday: Noon - 5 PM Wednesday Noon -11PM Family Perspective By Bud Ozar When Jesus asked the blind man What do you want from me? he asked for sight. If Jesus asked you the same question, what would you say? Okay, that is your prayer. STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS And Jesus said to him, Go your way; your faith has made you well. And immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way. MARK 10:52 Faith is believing in something even though you may not be able to see it. Many people think that miracles don t happen anymore. But, if you focus on the positive, not the negative, focus on your blessings instead of your hardships, miracles will seem common and you will see God s active presence in your daily life. Prayer of the Faithful That we recognize all the gifts we are given and see God s active presence in our daily life. The Portland Knights of Columbus The Portland Knights of Columbus counsel is working with Positive Solutions Informed Choices (PSIC) of Ionia to provide ultrasounds to women who are facing unplanned pregnancies. PSIC is a prolife pregnancy center that serves the Ionia County area. The Knights of Columbus will be sponsoring a fundraiser to purchase an ultrasound machine. The machine will cost $37,000 and the Portland Knights of Columbus is responsible for raising $18,500. Each dollar raised by the Portland Knights of Columbus will be matched by the Supreme Knights of Columbus to raise the full amount of $37,000. Who s willing to help us reach our local goal of saving lives by raising $18,500? Please contact Grand Knight Bill Christian at gk2168@mikofc.org or Treasurer Tom Klein at 810-588-3965. Your input was vital to its success! In September, the Steier Group presented the study findings and recommendations to Bishop Walkowiak, diocesan leadership, and priests. Based on the positive findings of this study and the feedback from subsequent meetings with clergy and diocesan leadership, Bishop Walkowiak has prayerfully concluded that we will move forward with a capital campaign to address our immediate and future funding needs. The final project(s) to be funded and their amounts will be decided in conjunction with campaign committees. Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary time MANS Conference Developing Staff to Educate with Passion and Purpose St. Patrick School Alumni Sr. M. Evangeline (Wendy Rutherford) visits with students during the school day. Every three years, the Michigan Association of Nonpublic Schools (MANS) hosts its annual conference in downtown Grand Rapids. The MANS Education Conference and Expo brings together school leaders, teachers, and support staff from member schools of the seven Catholic dioceses of Michigan, the Michigan District of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, and Christian Schools International. This year, the more than 1600 people participating represented all aspects of Catholic and faith-based education from preschool through the university level. The conference is attended by principals, pastors, religious sisters and brothers, school board members, and many others involved in faith-based education. The convention is the perfect setting for learning, networking and sharing best practices as well as a time to celebrate and renew one s spirit. There are sessions hosted and presented by educators from across the State of Michigan as well as educators from across the United States. The members of our staff were able to hear a presentation by keynote speaker Dr. Curtis Chandler called The Un-Classroom What Every Teacher Could Do if Lecture Became Illegal. There were hundreds of sessions on Thursday afternoon and throughout the day on Friday which staff had the opportunity to pick and choose from. Listed below are some of the favorite sessions attended by our teachers: Teaching the Holocaust in a Christian School Dyslexia 101 Ready, Set, Go STEM Make Learning Epic: The Power of Story in the Classroom Marketing Your School to Millennial Families Best Practice Strategies for Enrollment Growth Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum Educational Excursion Breakout EDU It s Time for Something Different Another perk of the event is that staff have the opportunity to wander around the Expo and view products displayed and presented by vendors from across the nation. The MANS Conference reminds me of how large our network is around the state and even beyond. It was invigorating to attend with members of our teaching staff, educators from the Diocese of Grand Rapids and teachers from all over the State of Michigan. It is inspiring to see the level of devotion that exists in Catholic schools. I came away feeling that we are truly one big family looking out for each other and working towards the same goal of providing quality faith-based education. Most importantly, we all walked away from the MANS conference knowing that faith-based education is alive and well right here in our great State of Michigan. As Bishop David Walkowiak said, It truly was an opportunity for Christian educators to collaborate with one another, to share best practices and learn best practices, learn from experts in their field and grow in their abilities to educate with passion and purpose. We Pray! We Learn! We Achieve! Blood Drive Blood Drives to Continue!!!! We wanted to be sure you were aware that the American Red Cross has reached an agreement with one of the unions representing their employees. Blood drive collections will continue after all! Our next blood drive here at SPS hosted by the National Honor Society is scheduled for November 20th. Stay tuned for more details.
