Community FATHER MARK S MUSINGS VOL 3 NO 50 other churches and will often save and share their church bulletins too They are fun to look at Save the date for our annual Feast Day While teaching the crowds about the Kingdom of God, Jesus uses parables so that they might understand its meaning He offers his disciples private explanations of their meaning The gospel on this Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time begins with Jesus describing how a sower scatters seed on the land and then one day discovers the land bearing fruit so the sower knows it s harvest time Such is it with God s Kingdom, which is like a mustard seed, the smallest of all seeds, which grows into a large plant Birds will come to make their home in the large plant because of its shade With the Kingdom of God, as with nature, we need to understand that God is at work in our midst in us, in the people around us, in the Church, and in all creation As we move into the summer months, I am reminded of a Swedish Proverb, A life without love is like a year without summer The summer months are a wonderful opportunity to slow down from the school year schedule, for vacations, to catch up on work that did not get done during the fast pace of the year and enjoy the beauty of creation And that is what I hope to accomplish this summer Even though you may be on vacation this summer, we are not Please remember your financial stewardship to St Francis while you are away Collection envelopes may be mailed to or dropped off at the office during business hours There is also the Automatic Contribution Plan (ACH); this is a safe, easy, and convenient way to make your stewardship offering Monthly amounts of your designation will be deducted from your checking or savings account on the first or fifteenth of each month It can be started, changed or stopped for any reason at any time For more information, please call the parish office And of course, support the Church you are visiting while on vacation too It is fun to worship while traveling because you are able to experience the universal Church While the essence of the Mass is the same there are always the customs or traditions which make the Mass home for the locals People will often share with me what they have experienced in Celebration; Saturday, September 29 from 10:30-5:00 pm If you would like to be a part of the planning of this year s Festival, please let me know I will be schedule the first planning meeting in early June I am also very happy to announce a save the date for our Eightieth Jubilee Celebration; Sunday, October 14 Our celebration will include Mass hopefully with the Archbishop and a festive reception We also thinking about a community potluck supper following a Saturday evening Mass with a St Francis trivia game and a community work project by constructing a fire pit, rustic cross and some landscaping in the southeast corner of the lower field by the end of August The fire pit will be used up our Church Squad youth group and a gathering place for faith formation Sean Sego has agreed coordinate the project If you are interested helping or contributing to the cost of this community project, please give me a call in the office Happy Father s Day and a special welcome to all of our guests and visitors who are worshipping with us this weekend PAX ET BONUM Fr Mark Everyone is invited to a Pancake Breakfast at the KC Hall, 1910 South Greeley Street in Stillwater on Sunday, June 24 from 8:00 am - 1:00 pm This breakfast is in partnership with Lake Elmo Elementary School to help fund their Playground For All project Adults are $850; children age 5-12 $500; under age 5 eat free Ample parking and wheel chair accessible Bring your family & friends and an item for the St Michael's Food Shelf Open to the Public All are Welcome Sponsored by the Solanus Casey Knights of Columbus Council #1632 Saint Francis of Assisi Parish Page 3
