A place for faith and fellowship with family and friends. Rev. Mike Winters Pastor Ben Harding Music Director Dr. Ray Jones, Jr. Pastor Emeritus WISE BAPTIST NEWS A PUBLICATION FOR MEMBERS AND FRIENDS OF WISE BAPTIST CHURCH Dear Church Family and Friends, Anger to forgiveness. Three simple words. If we better apply that idea, it would transform our relationships and our world. On January 26, 1998 Louis Zamperini ran with a torch to help kick off the Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan. Zamperini was 81 years old. His half-mile run took him past the fourth and final Japanese prison camp in which he was held during World War II. That half-mile run was part a journey that began almost 45 years earlier, when he became a prisoner of war of the Japanese in World War II. For two years, he was beaten, tortured, starved, and watched fellow prisoners die. Zamperini survived. When he got home, he was haunted by nightmares about his prison camp experience. His anger consumed him. It was destroying him and his marriage. One day, he went to a Billy Graham crusade. He met Jesus. As he came to better understand the forgiveness Jesus gave to him, he knew he needed to forgive the prison camp guards and commanders. In 1952 he traveled to Japan. He went to Sagamo Prison where many of his captors were being held. He forgave the very ones who had caused him and many others to suffer so much! Zamperini s torch-carrying was part of a 45-year journey. He could not have extended forgiveness on his own. He needed God s help. Jesus dying words from the cross were, Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing (Luke 23:34). Jesus forgives us and helps us forgive others. Anger to forgiveness. That is what I call good news. Let s spread the word!
