Connecting with God Discovering Your Personal Mission HABIT BUILDER A Supplementary Resource for The Significant Woman Course HABITS BRING ABOUT CHANGE As you learn more about yourself and how uniquely God has created you, you may learn about areas in your life where you want to see growth and development. Developing habits is one way to enable you to make progress. Building good habits can help bring positive changes in your behavior. You will be better equipped to grow in your relationship with God, become more who He created you to be and fulfill your Personal Mission, which is the calling for which He created you. Habit building is designed to strengthen you to be proactive in God s power and exhibit self-control, which is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. Research shows that it takes at least 21 days to form a habit. Habits begin as purposeful, deliberate, and conscious action, but as you practice your habits your behavior eventually becomes unconscious, consistent and positive no matter the circumstances. A helpful Life-Coaching Tool to use in building consistency is the Habit Builder (see page 3). We are what we repeatedly do. ARISTOTLE, philosopher Aristotle also said that excellence is not just an act, but a habit. Developing right habits habits that God desires for you to have in your life helps you control your mind, will, and emotions and keep a positive, proactive attitude as you move forward on your journey. Following are some practical ways you can use the Habit Builder Life-Coaching Tool to help you integrate the six biblically based life principles from The Significant Woman course. Embrace the Source - Spending time with God, praying and reading His Word are ways you can deepen your intimacy with Him. Some may find this easy to do consistently, while others may find the need to establish a conscious habit of a specific time, place or creative way to meet with God. Spending time with the Lord for 21 consecutive days will help you be more consistent and build a more intimate relationship with Him. For additional ways to embrace God more intimately see pages 44 and 45 of The Significant Woman book.
Activate Your Mission Session One - In this principle you discover your Core Values that you live consistently through habit behavior. Living authentically to your Core Values strengthens the way you live your life of significance every day. If you find that your Core Value behavior needs strengthening, the Habit Builder resource will help you. Live Intentionally - After discovering your Personal Mission in Activate Your Mission- Session Two you set Mission Goals (Refocus Your Life). In Live Intentionally you determine priority actions that you place in your schedule to help you achieve your Personal Mission. If you are struggling with making progress on any mission goal you may want to use the Habit Builder to work on ways you can live out your priorities more consistently. One habit might be to consistently follow one of the priorities you placed in your weekly schedule. Sustain for Life - The Life-Coaching Tool, Be Thankful in Everything, on page 131 of The Significant Woman book includes scripture verses about being thankful. It also provides an opportunity to consciously thank God for any circumstance or person you feel may be hindering your ability to be thankful. If you are unable to thank God consistently, you may want to use the Habit Builder to help you establish a daily attitude of thankfulness. 21 DAYS TO BUILD A HABIT The 21-Day Habit Progress sheets (see pages 4-6) are designed for you to write your thoughts and experiences each day during your 21-day commitment. Building a new habit initially requires a lot of focus. As you take your desired action for 21 consecutive days you will move from conscious behavior to unconscious action that involves less thinking and energy. The chains of habit are too small to be felt until they are too strong to be broken. SAMUEL JOHNSON, Essayist, Poet Trust God s Holy Spirit to help you stay consistent in building your new habit and making it a priority each day. God isn t asking you to try to be perfect. Instead, He desires that you mature and grow by participating in the process of His work in your life. Give God s Holy Spirit freedom to help you make progress in your habit behavior so you can continue to live the life of significance that He desires for you.
