ORFORDVILLE LUTHERAN CHURCH Do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God. 210 N. Proverbs 13:22 Dear Friends, September is a month of celebration and transition for us. It s the time of year when kids go back to school and summer plans come to an end. It s also the time of year when our congregation begins our program year with the start of Sunday School, Confirmation classes, our Narrative Lectionary readings, etc. This September is special, however, because we will be celebrating our 150 th Anniversary as a congregation. God has been so good to us, and we have so much to be thankful for. We will use this opportunity to celebrate God s faithfulness to us and to dream about our future. One of the things that has impressed me as we ve prepared for this moment is the legacy we have inherited from our ancestors in faith. The picture above is a drawing from around 1872 of the original church and parsonage for what would one day become Orfordville Lutheran. I like thinking about the generosity and spirit of those Norwegian immigrants setting up a church that would go on past their own life. As we celebrate, I hope we can be inspired by the witness of our ancestors. As Proverbs says, The good leave an inheritance to their children s children. It s worth asking: what legacy can we pass on to our children s children? In my sermon on August 25 th, I asked all members of OLC to hold our mission, ministry, and future in your prayers. What could happen if each one of us prayed for God s guidance in this season of celebration? May God guide our church and help us to pass on the legacy we have inherited. Your brother in Christ, Pastor Andy Twiton
