ORFORDVILLE LUTHERAN CHURCH Do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God. 210 N. Main Street, Orfordville, WI 53576 Office Phone #: (608) 879-2575 Office Email: office@orfordvillelutheran.org Pastor Andy s Phone #: (608) 886-0546 Pastor Andy s Email: pastor@orfordvillelutheran.org NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2018 FROM PASTOR ANDY TWITON: For I am not ashamed of the gospel; it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. Romans 1:16 Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Our Sunday School kids like to sing Be Bold: Be Bold! Be Strong! For the Lord thy God is with Thee! It s a reminder that our faith makes us bold to seek and live out God s will. Paul s witness also encourages us to be bold and not to be ashamed of the gospel. But sometimes Lutherans seem a bit shy about sharing our faith and inviting friends and family to church. Perhaps we re afraid of offending or we want to respect another person s privacy. Who first invited you into the faith? Perhaps it was a parent or a grandparent. Or maybe a friend or neighbor first invited you to church. We know there is power in a personal invitation and word-of-mouth contact. It s one thing to see an ad on TV, but it s something different altogether to hear it from a trusted friend or family member. Dr. Thom S. Rainer writes, Most people come to church because of a personal invitation, and surprisingly only 2% of churchgoers invite someone in a given year. Who was the last person you invited to come with you to church? One of my goals for Orfordville Lutheran is that we would become an INVITING church a church where newcomers feel welcomed, included, and invited into our community of faith. Our God has a passion for the outsider, the stranger, the lost. Shouldn t God s church likewise have a passion for newcomers? The growth of the church is up to the work of the Holy Spirit, but perhaps the Spirit has decided to work through you. A invitation from a friend or family member is even more meaningful than an invitation from a pastor. Let s build a culture of INVITATION at Orfordville Lutheran Church! Here is a simple guide to help you get started: 1) LISTEN deeply, honestly, and with care. Pay special attention when someone says things like I m not from here or I m struggling or I need help An invitation to church is one way you can express your care.
2) INVITE: Would you like to come to church with me? Even if they say no you will have expressed care and perhaps planted a seed that will someday bloom. Perhaps you can tell your story of why church matters in your life. 3) FOLLOW-UP: Offer to walk with or drive the person to church next Sunday. Sit with your friend or family member. Show them where to pick up a bulletin. Introduce them to a few people so they begin to feel connected. May God work through you to share love, grace, and peace. Your brother in Christ, Pastor Andy Twiton UPCOMING EVENTS & ANNOUNCEMENTS: It s Time For Change: Less of This, More of That ~ A Six-Week Sermon Series, October 21-November 25 The world is changing, whether we like it or not.
